In the interest of keeping discussions specific to the NFL in one place, please use this thread for NFL opinions/views.

I thought maybe a place to talk NFL is a good idea for those that follow the league and enjoy it - and also for those who like fantasy football. Seems to work great for the NHL and Jets threads.

A really great NFL season preview is here: https://www.sbnation.com/a/nfl-preview-2017

Some interesting predictions from that piece:

MVP? Dak Prescott. The Cowboys have all the pieces to be a juggernaut on offense again, but they?ll likely have to do without Ezekiel Elliott for a significant chunk of the season. If Prescott can be even better in his second season than he was as a rookie, and keep Dallas on track without Elliott, he could get the honor.

Most improved? Jared Goff. Expectations are low for Goff after his poor rookie season, but he was a No. 1 pick for a reason and his slow transition to the NFL was to be expected for an Air Raid quarterback. Now he has new tools to work with like Sammy Watkins and Gerald Everett in 2017.

Top Rookie? Dalvin Cook. The Vikings are going to need the running game to be strong this season, and the offensive line should be fine, injuries pending. Cook can ball.

First to be fired?
Todd Bowles. The Jets are in full-blown rebuild mode, and there?s very little reason to be optimistic that they can be competitive this year. Bowles? seat is so hot that it?s very nearly on fire.

Hope it's a good kickoff tonight! Is Tom getting too old?!

It's like a old friend returning the NFL is to me.

I'm in a suicide pool and took the Falcons to beat the Bears.

I'm a huge Brady fan and he's gonna kick some more butt for the GOAT

Great game tonight Tyreek Hill should be fun to see as well

Vikings VS Saints is intriguing as well.

Attended my first ever game last year (Cowboys@Vikings), and those Vikings colour rush jerseys won me over. I've never really had a team when it comes to the NFL but I think I'm going to adopt the Vikings. I've loved Diggs since his first game in the NFL. Super exciting player to watch.

The streak could be alive...we shall see - anything can happen.  Thought Cooks would get more points - Brady and him were off all night.  Apart from Hunt my RB's are really weak...just terrible actually.  These RB by committee teams are brutal for fantasy football.

Tom and the offence didn't look very good last night despite the hot start. He still looks like he has the arm, but if he has to rely on all those deep shots down the sideline than I think the Patriots can be defended this year. That's not really his game and it showed last night. The defence looked even worse. Which, I guess injuries can somewhat explain away but injuries happen and I doubt they're going to get a ton healthy over the course of 16 games. Awful break for Eric Berry. He's tough not to cheer for.

Unfortunately no, getting tickets wasn't in the cards for my time there. And while it would have been fun to go some place around the stadium, we weren't up to facing the horrible traffic for hours just for wings Tongue

Pats decimated with injuries

What a gloriously entertaining game last night. Wow. That rookie running back from KC is truly remarkable. What a talent and  Alex Smith look sharp as ever. All time first game yards from scrimmage record!

This is why I love the NFL so

Offense is really missing Edelman. Tough night for the Pats across the board, but especially on D. Honestly, they looked like the Bombers on the defensive side of the ball. Undecided

Terrible news re: Eric Berry. He's a beauty and a leader on the Chiefs.

well the slate of games so far has been a bit dull...looks a lot like week 1 of most pro sports...QB's and receivers not fully connected...officials blowing calls (no it's not just the CFL that has problems).

Still fun to have NFL football back as a viewing option on the weekend.

@Sir Blue and Gold - can't lock up the victory yet, big game for Bradford tonight and you could steal the victory.  Scoring was way down...Poor sucker who started Andy Dalton this week...hahahahahahaha

What an odd week. Bradford for over 26 points tonight? Normally I'd say no chance but the whole week's been so weird that who knows?

Hilariously, Bradford looks like he's a premier quarterback all of a sudden. I guess an offensive line helps. I wonder how much noise the Vikings can make this year? They have the defense and now it looks like their offense is at least decent.

I like the Vikings..hope they do well BUT they started hot last season and faded big time down the stretch.  New Orleans had and still has one of the worst defences in the league.

It's just week 1 - but how exciting would a playoff push be in Minnesota with the super bowl being there??

I'm not sure faded is the best term to use, they were unprecedentedly devastated by injuries at OL last season. Hard to overcome that.

I'm excited for this season. I don't think NO's D is as bad as it was last year, I think the Vikings just made it look so.

Well they did their best but couldn't overcome the injury challenges - teams kind of figured them out too...they should be better this season with Cook and Theilin having a year under his belt.  Pittsburgh has a better defensive front so this will be a better test for them.

I think NO is really that bad.

I looked at the stats and those teams combined for only a 25% 3rd down conversation rate. I'm assuming the punters are sore today.

http://www.tsn.ca/report-colts-to-switch-to-brissett-at-qb-1.857512

Quote
Less than three weeks after trading for him, the Indianapolis Colts plan to start Jacoby Brissett at quarterback, according to a report from NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Sources: The #Colts are planning on starting QB Jacoby Brissett on Sunday vs. #AZCardinals. Former starter Scott Tolzien goes to the bench.

- Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) September 15, 2017

The Colts acquired Brissett from the New England Patriots for receiver Phillip Dorsett earlier this month. Brissett played behind Scott Tolzien in Indy's Week 1 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, but still saw some action, finishing 2/3 for 51 yards. Tolzien was 9/18 for 128 yards and two interceptions in the loss.

The Colts are hoping to have star quarterback Andrew Luck back sooner than later, but reports suggest he could still be at least a couple weeks away.

Brissett showed some promise in limited action for the Patriots last year, finishing 34/55 for 400 yards.

I watched it because I'm a Bengals fan and I rarely get to see their games on TV. However, what a terribly played game. Watching Watson make his first start was more entertaining than seeing my team play. This is most unwatchable they've been since before they drafted Carson Palmer.

Bengals OC Ken Zampese got fired yesterday.  Only choice Marvin Lewis had in order to save his job.  If Lazor can`t turn their offense around quickly, Lewis will be gone sooner rather than later.

Where he just stood there after the interception with his hands on his hips? Hilarious. Dallas looks like a different team if they can't run the ball for 5 yards on first down.

Where he just stood there after the interception with his hands on his hips? Hilarious. Dallas looks like a different team if they can't run the ball for 5 yards on first down.

That's the one....huge no-no at any level of sports, you gotta make an effort...

Attorney: Tests show Aaron Hernandez had CTE

Aaron Hernandez, the former NFL star who took his life while serving a murder sentence in prison, had chronic traumatic encephalopathy -- commonly known as CTE -- attorney Jose Baez said Thursday. Baez cited study results compiled by the Boston University CTE Center, which examined Hernandez's brain for the neurodegenerative brain disease.

Darren Sproles tore his ACL and broke his arm on the same play. Did anyone else see that? What kinda luck is that. Probably it for him and he's considered retiring in the past and he's well into his 30s.

Sproles has added so much excitement to the NFL during his playing time...this could be it for him, tough road rehabbing two major injuries.

One of the worst hits to the head you will see just happened in the packers / bears games.  Poor Davonte Adams was just knocked cold.  Brutal.

I never watch the NFL, but this was on at the gym and I saw it about 10 seconds after getting on the treadmill.
I haven't seen anything this dirty for quite some time. Adams was being wrapped up by a couple of Bears and was completely defenseless, all he could do is watch it coming a mile away as #59 launched the top of his helmet  square into his face mask. The sound was off but the whistle might have even already been blown. I can't believe #59 didn't get ejected, that looked like a blatant attempt to injure. Glad to see the Packers continue to destroy the Bears after that. Wonder how many games this guy will get? This incident seems worse than say allegedly deflating a football.

What a joke.  The offender should be suspended for the season.

Total slap on the wrist for this premeditated intent to injure play. The league and sport has got to get serious with these type of egregious hits. A minimum of 4 games would have sent a stronger message. Sad.

Hardly think it was "premeditated". The game moves at an incredible pace - I don't believe he went out there planning on popping Adams in the head.  It was a penalty for sure and worthy of a suspension.

Really cuz he was CLEARLY wrapped up. Zero reason to even make the hit. ZERO

I'd guess he was going for a hit to dislodge the ball and didn't count on the ball carrier lowering his head at the last second

Is anyone else really surprised that Carson Wentz and the Eagles look like SuperBowl favorites at 5-1 after 6 games?

I'm surprised but I wouldn't say really surprised. If you had me look at their schedule before the season the only win I would have possibly questioned would be the Redskins game on the road. The other 4 on paper would have seemed like gimmies to me (Didn't foresee Carolina doing anything this season, thought Cam was approaching ruined by injuries territory).

What an odd season. It's like the Giants and Broncos defenses changed jerseys for the game.

Packers are probably out and Vikings may get Bridgewater back before December could be a playoff run for Minnesota
