Not sure what the hell I just read but you think Scheifele is American...? Since when is Kitchener, ONTARIO part of another country? ???

North American... ;)

Keep getting confused on nationalities, so many of our new recruits are American.  Sorry MS, thanks for being a good Canadian...

That's a pretty feeble excuse - especially when you actually look at the roster(s). How hard is it to do a Google search? ::)

Wow... if you want to go that deep into it...  the point had nothing to do with his actual nationality, instead to do with his mother tongue.  ESL (English as a Second Language) does not apply to him, being from a country that has English as a native tongue.  And we have a large number of Americans on our roster, so many that I made a mistake on Mr 55's nationality in my posting.  It was not a point that required a roster scan or google search, just a reference to his mother tongue.

I have apologized to Mr 55 for calling him American, lets move along.

Good read on Ovechkin, who surpassed the man whose trophy he's won a record six times:

http://www.tsn.ca/statistically-speaking-ovechkin-an-all-time-sniper-1.647349

Quote
Washington Capitals sniper Alex Ovechkin scored a goal and added two assists in a 4-1 win at Montreal. The goal was Ovechkin?s 544th of his career, tying him with Habs legend Maurice Richard for 29th all-time.

Ovechkin is just 31-years-old, though, so his goal production isn?t done, and he?s been scoring like this in an era of far fewer goals per game.

But, using adjusted goal totals, Ovechkin already ranks 11th while playing 878 games.

On an adjusted goals per game basis, Ovechkin holds the lead among all scorers that have at least 500 adjusted goals.

Impressive.

Report regarding the transition from Reebok to Adidas for next season:

http://www.thehockeynews.com/news/article/report-no-alternate-jerseys-next-season-as-adidas-takes-over-nhl-uniforms

It's being discussed in the Jets thread but it's a topic which affects the entire league, so it seemed practical to post in this thread.

Ahh take a good look at statistics.  Pacific is beating central no problem.  They own 5 playoff spots.  And it's a freaking nightmare when a team loses.

I did. I still don't get your logic, much less the claim it's the Pacific by a long shot. :-\

The Pacific playoff teams are far more competitive and sustainable than the Central teams. Anaheim, San Jose, Edmonton, LA are teams with a legit shot in the West, whereas outside of Chicago in the Central you have the unsustainable Wild and a Blues team that's never going to accomplish anything with their core of players.

In the Pacific the only true garbage team is Arizona with Vancouver on the brink of garbage, whereas in the Central Colorado, Winnipeg, Dallas, and Nashville are all hopeless.

In what way are they more competitive and/or sustainable? I don't see how the Wild or the Blues are unsustainable. Both teams have demonstrated consistency this season and are competing for a playoff spot. The Wild are one of the hottest teams in the league the last 20 games or so. Not sure how Nashville is somehow more hopeless than Vancouver, either. Nashville's a point out of a wildcard spot with games in hand on both Calgary and LA.

Are there some advanced statistics to suggest the Pacific is more competitive by - and I quote - a "long shot"...?

If you hadn't notice Pacific team's have beat up on central a lot more. Out of top 10 spots Pacific controls 8 spots. I just see Pacific being faster and tougher team's to boot.

Colton can you guys stop winning, gosh!!  It's rude lol. What oilers are doing is fun. I'd love 3rd in division, i still stick with sj or ANA is getting top 2. But being 3rd youngest team in NHL at 25.8 years old and to be hanging in there has been nothing but joyable. Clb, 25. 2 youngest in NHL.  Amazing what they're doing,  great for them!  Toronto at 25.7. Carolina 25.9 4th oldest with Buffalo rounding out top 5 at 26.2.  All those teams are on the rise and being top 5 youngest In nhl. Pretty remarkable.

Islanders fire Capuano, Weight takes over in interim:

Not a surprising move considering how poor the team has played this season.

Currently the youngest team is the Jets. Followed up by Buff, Canes, Tor, CBJ and then Oilers.

And Imo, I don't think there is much difference between the top 3 teams in both divisions. Then you have LA who are slightly better than the "currently" struggling Preds & Stars. Then the Flames, Canucks & Jets in the next group, with the Jets having the most potential going forward. And then you have the Avs & Ariz involved in a re-build.

If I had to pick the 8 playoff teams right now I'd go with...
Minn - Chi - St.L
Ana - SJ - LA
WC - Edm - Nash
Conf Final - Chicago v Anaheim

*IF the Jets get Laine & Myers back right after the ASB, I think they'll end up finishing 9th in the conference just ahead of Dallas & Calgary.

With regards to sustainability - its anyone's guess although I do like the chances of the Jets & the Oilers becoming the big dogs in the conference in a few yrs.
