Sedines retired    :o
It's about time. They both played out their contracts, so that will open up a ton of cap space for the Canucks.

Really good news for the Canucks organization.

Yup. They can just focus on total rebuild rather than trying to appease their two stars.

So hard dealing with players like that. You want to treat them right, but at a certain point they just become a drain on your resources.

Prime example where loyalty can really cripple a franchise.  This is where I get afraid of the Little extension, and possible Wheeler extension.

Agreed. For a couple of seasons, all we had was Little and Wheeler, then on comes the young guns, first it's Shieff, then Liane, now Kyle Connor. Our overall team speed and puck quickness has went up exponentially with the youth movement.

I d like to see us extend both Little and Wheeler, they still are very productive, provide much needed leadership and have been here through the lean years, time for some cup runs!!

Our cup hit now is about 55mil.   It could go as high as 80mil next year.

Little was already extended for 6 years, which concerns me.

This is how Little's contract breaks down:

Starting in 2018-19:
$6.50M
$6.50M
$4.25M
$6.00M
$4.75M
$3.75M

Same cap hit every year though at about $5.2 mill.  What makes me feel better is that he can be traded after year 2 of the contract.

The fact he played 80+ games for the first time since 2013-14 this year is a good thing too for his trade appeal.  Hopefully he can stay healthy down the line.

Healthy and perform.  His production was down this season and that concerns me for a 30+ year old player.  He is on the downswing of his career.  We should be investing in the young guys, not the aging veterans who are a declining asset.  Little has been a loyal soldier, but you need to separate loyalty from the decision making process.  A couple bad contracts can cripple a team. But I trust Chevy so assume he has a plan in place.  I just hope signing Little doesn't result in the inability to sign guys like Connor, or Roslovic down the road.

He needs to bounce back next season; no doubt about it.

I understand his production has decreased this season but some of the criticism directed at Little is over the top, IMO. We learned a while back he's been battling through some injuries. He's still the team's best player on face-offs and his defensive zone play has been solid more often than not.

If we're going to talk about concerning contracts, I'd put Perreault's at the top of my list.

Perreault only has 3 years left (at slightly over $4 mill cap hit), versus 6 years with Little.  Plus Perreault can be traded at any time, where Little has a NMC for the first 2 years of his contract.  I see Perreault's as less concerning, but agree his production this season has been a concern.
