The Winnipeg Rugby Football Club was founded on June 10, 1930. The team was known as the "Winnipegs" until Vince Leah dubbed them the "Blue Bombers of western football" in 1935. And the rest is history!

On July 5, 1986 @Wpg_BlueBombers set a #CFL record for largest shutout 56-0 vs @sskroughriders
For some reason @GlenSuitor recalls this game as a Labour Day re-match
#Riders best scoring chance was a 48 yard FG attempt by Dave Ridgway - it came up short. I blame the holder 😉

August 24, 1944
@Wpg_BlueBombers suspended operations for the duration of WWII. A new RCAF mandate prevented civilian men from playing with service men.

Some interesting historical stuff here.

Thanks for that Fred.  Very interesting information indeed!

I miss the days of the 32 man roster, 17 Canadians and 15 imports.

:(

Radically Canadian!

Perhaps a little known fact...

January 19 will always be known as the day the @CFL was born.

#OTD in 1958, the CFL was born from the remnants of the Canadian Football Council. In the new league's first season, Pro Football Hall of Fame coach @HPBudGrant
guided @Wpg_BlueBombers to a Grey Cup Championship.

Interesting fact - Ron Lancaster started as a rookie DB with the Ottawa Roughriders...

"Ottawa Rough Riders rookie defensive back Ron Lancaster showed some tremendous potential has he picked off three passes - including one returned for a touchdown.

Lancaster also got some reps in at QB but critics believe he will become a full-time DB in the CFL."
