He has pretty much said that he is retiring after 2026. I am not even sure why we are discussing this.

Where did you hear that or get that impression? It may be why we traded for Brown but I haven't anything from him or the team that definitive.

We think he should retire, even the team might think that.

If we thought we'd heard that there wouldn't be a string talking about it. 1650 views and 61 comments.

That's why we're discussing this question.

Quote from: Blue In BC on October 06, 2026, 09:11:06 PMThe suggestion was for a separate development camp. So that's a bit different but that isn't like participating against CFL players in live reps.

It has some merit but it would be mostly more film work and not directly related to the  assigned team. Teams do have QB / receivers coaches and even though they don't get many reps, they do get post college coaching.

Buck Pierce used to be that guy here and now holds that role among many hats in Vancouver. Dinwiddie as well but that's a lot of work for a HC to deal with and give additional coaching to a # 4 QB that many teams don't have anyway.

The point of such a camp would be to provide young QB's with a stronger foundation of the CFL game before they get thrown into the  pool to drown.  Many times I've noticed the #1 and #2 Qb's dissecting a play call on the side-lines while the #3 stares off into space as if he has no part in the conversation.

Game situations could be simulated with a half dozen staff members that know what they're doing filled out by QB's waiting in rotation to take their reps. Without all the distractions of the other positions coaches could download a base of information into each recruit so that they'd be better equipped to understand and participate in the conversations that take place in the QB room.

It's sounds simple enough but I don't think even the NFL does that. The USFL has a very short TC and boom off to the races they go.

Like I said, these are the players that were starters or # 2 in college most of the time. 4 years of coaching. Analytics up the whazoo. Scouting reports and combines.

More coaching is never a bad idea. I'm not against it but think it's grasping for straws a bit.

Even in practice there are reps with receivers etc that happen before " game planning reps " per se. It's not like newbies aren't getting used to speed, size of field and mentored by coaches and other players.

The NFL could afford this idea. The closest they may have done is NFL Europe where many PR players got more specific pro experience?

Ya, I was going to ask what the NFL does.  Don't they keep like 5+ QBs on every roster (incl PR)?  How do they dev the next big thing who maybe wasn't a 1RDP?  i.e. Guys who might be good, and might even flash "it", but aren't ready to full-time start.

Maybe with their outsized rosters and PRs, and bigger coaching staff, they can have a 3rd (and 4th?) unit so 3-5th string QBs can get meaningful practice time while the #1s & #2s are doing their thing.

I watch every presser, all players and coaches.  I've never seen one thing where Zach says he's retiring for '27.  Heck, T.Harris makes more rumblings about retiring than Zach ever has.  And TSN talks about Trevor retiring much more than Zach.

If you have something specific, a link would be handy!

I think you're conflating what we all are guessing, what some are hoping, and what seems "written on the wall" with reality.

Quote from: VictorRomano on October 06, 2026, 02:57:12 PMWouldn't that be a crazy end to his legacy if the Bombers were to get to the GC (not likely, I realize) and then we trot out ZC for the big game and he retires with one last ring?

If you think that could happen, go to the gambling sites right now and you can get like 15-20X your bet on "WPG to win GC".  If we start winning, starting this week, that will reduce to 8-10X, so bet soon!

The problem with the theory of saving Zach for a loud playoff run is we ain't even gonna make the playoffs with Dru.  It's probably too late anyhow.  So we saved Zach for nothing but trotting out onto an empty field because the rest of the team went home after week 21.  That's why I've been saying for weeks Zach & team just need to suck it up and shake off every "hit" and play like there's no tomorrow.  And why I made this thread that because they aren't doing that they're saying Zach is QB for '27...

Sir Blue and Gold

...He's going to have to retire. What team is going to pay him to stand around the sidelines for half the season and play pretty terrible football the other half?

Something on Facebook announced he would retire at the end of the season. Whether this is real information or just usual garbage of fake stuff IDK.

Players don't usually make those announcements during the season.

I've seen those outrageous posts from Pacific Dugout Legends on FB targeting the Bombers that have no basis in fact, but there always seem to be commentators that react to them as if they are true.

The NFL has an unlimited budget, for example the Minnesota Vikings employ 23 position coaches below the 3 coordinators.
