Special teams stalwart Maxime Rouyer returns for B.C. Lions against Riders

The B.C. Lions' lineup will be mostly unchanged for their Week 12 clash with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, save for a key addition on special teams.

National linebacker Maxime Rouyer is slated to make his return after missing the past six games with a foot injury. He appeared in three games to start the year, but did not record a statistic.

The native of Troyes, France, has been with the Lions since 2022 after previously spending time with the Edmonton Elks. In 63 career CFL games, he has been a reliable contributor on special teams, making 26 tackles and forcing a fumble, while also adding eight tackles on defence. The McGill graduate was granted National status in an unprecedented move by the CFL this offseason after spending six seasons as a Global player.

In a corresponding move, rookie Canadian linebacker Chase Henning has been returned to the practice roster.

The Leos have made no other changes. Canadian fullback Jacob Bond (knee) has been extended on the one-game injured list, while Canadian receiver Nick Cenacle and American offensive lineman Brandon Yates remain on the reserve roster.

The B.C. Lions (4-5) will host the Saskatchewan Roughriders (6-3) at BC Place Stadium on Sunday, August 23, with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EDT. The Roughriders are coming off a 26-19 upset loss to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, while the Lions beat the Calgary Stampeders by a score of 30-26.

The game will be broadcast on TSN in Canada and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune in on 620 CKRM in Regina or 730 CKNW (English) or Sher-E-Punjab Radio AM 600 (Punjabi) in Vancouver.

Samuel Emilus, James Letcher Jr. return for Saskatchewan Roughriders in B.C.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders will get a couple of major contributors back in the lineup when they face the B.C. Lions on Sunday.

Canadian receiver Samuel Emilus is unquestionably the biggest addition after missing the team's last three regular-season games with a foot injury. The Montreal native has caught 31 passes for 448 yards and five touchdowns over six regular-season games this year. He remains the team's third-leading receiver despite his time away.

The six-foot, 200-pound target was originally a first-round pick in the 2022 CFL Draft. He has since caught 235 passes for 3,362 yards and 18 touchdowns, earning West Division all-star status in 2024. He was named the Most Valuable Canadian in Saskatchewan's Grey Cup win last season.

Also making his way back after an extended absence is American returner James Letcher Jr., who has been out with an elbow injury since Week 4. The prized off-season acquisition was averaging 13.9 yards per punt return and 24.3 yards per kickoff in three games prior to going down. He scored two career return touchdowns while with the Montreal Alouettes.

To make room for the two playmakers, Canadian receiver D'Sean Mimbs has been placed on the reserve roster, while Vyshonne Janusas has been demoted to the practice squad.

The only other change to the starting offence comes at the running back position, where Quali Conley returns after a one-game absence. Star Thomas has been placed back on the practice roster after rushing nine times for 36 yards last week and catching three passes for 25 yards.

Canadian offensive linemen Zack Fry and Daniel Johnson have also been re-inserted into the lineup, though neither is listed as a starter. Backup defensive tackle Ali Saad will be back in the defensive rotation.

Canadian offensive lineman Darius Bell, Canadian defensive lineman Liam Hoskins, and American defensive back Seyi Oladipo Jr. have all been returned to the practice roster.

I watched it. I thought it was ok. I love watching the ssk o sputter, and I'm always looking for reasons we can apply.

The huge standout for me is when we play ssk I want commander data McInnes reffing! Dude held ssk feet to the fire all night on all phases! He stopped their cheating cold! Did you see how that impacted them? They simply do not know how to play without cheating on every snap.

I bet ssk forum is going nuts about "having to beat the refs too". They are so blind to the fact that their team plays more on and over the edge than any other.

Both teams were very physical, and it left ssk possibly more beat up, which is never a bad thing. Rourke was looking good, and Trevor looked bad for 2 games in a row. It was like he had only 2 recs, Emilus and busby.

And I'll have to stop calling busby the worst nat rec, because he was making grabs 3 of our nats could only dream of. And it looks like they've been working on those in stride timing passes with him extensively. Why can't our 3 c's do anything close to that level? So frustrating.

I watched all 4 games, disappointed and angry with the Bomber results but bored watching the other 3 games which were not competitive contests.  The year started off with excellent competitive games but is heading down hill at mid-season, this is why I think they're putting such an emphasis on gambling.  Every football broadcast/podcast is dominated by talking about numbers, not football.

I watched all 4 games, disappointed and angry with the Bomber results but bored watching the other 3 games which were not competitive contests.  The year started off with excellent competitive games but is heading down hill at mid-season, this is why I think they're putting such an emphasis on gambling.  Every football broadcast/podcast is dominated by talking about numbers, not football.

I absolutely despise the gambling aspect, especially in the CFL. It makes for a very poor product.
When you have guys like hustler going on and on about spreads and parlays and stuff, I immediately tune out.

Hate seeing the Riders win just as much as I hate seeing the Bombers lose, but the refs. ruined that game by disqualifying 4-6 big Rider plays that took points off the board with penalty calls, while they let the Lions roll on untouched by infraction. 

Same one-sided egregious calls in the Bomber/Elk game, Sheehan gets knocked on his butt after one punt and in the next series Vaval catches a punt within 2 yds of an Elk tackler, no penalty called in either case and no replays show or examine these infractions.
