Ajou Ajou to make Calgary Stampeders debut against B.C. Lions

The Calgary Stampeders will have Canadian receiver Ajou Ajou in the lineup when they host the B.C. Lions on Thursday evening. The team released its official depth chart on Wednesday morning.

The 24-year-old signed with the Stampeders at the end of June immediately following his reinstatement by the CFL. He is now eligible to play after serving his six-game suspension.

Ajou was suspended by the league in April after a third-party investigation determined he made what was termed "aggressive and unwelcome physical contact" with multiple women at a Regina restaurant. The alleged incident occurred shortly after the Roughriders won the Grey Cup, and led to his release from the team.

The native of Brooks, Alta. was reinstated after he met the conditions outlined by the league following his violation of the CFL's gender-based violence and harassment policy. He completed 15 counselling sessions conducted by a gender-based violence expert, a psychological assessment by another independent expert, and a meeting with CFL commissioner Stewart Johnston.

The allegations against Ajou have not been tested in court.

The six-foot-three, 218-pound target was selected in the seventh round of the 2024 CFL Draft and played 12 regular-season games as a rookie in Saskatchewan, making 20 catches for 307 yards and two touchdowns.

Ajou returned to the team partway through the 2025 season following a stint in the NFL and made 22 catches for 212 yards over eight regular-season games. He also started the Grey Cup, making two catches for 13 yards to help the Roughriders defeat the Montreal Alouettes.

He will dress as a backup on Thursday behind standout slotback Jalen Philpot. In a corresponding move, the Stampeders have placed Canadian linebacker Terrence Ganyi on the practice roster.

The rest of Calgary's roster has remained unchanged from last week.

The Red and White have only eight players out due to injury, making them one of the CFL's healthiest teams alongside the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

The Calgary Stampeders (4-5) will host the B.C. Lions (3-5) at McMahon Stadium on Thursday, August 13 with kickoff scheduled for 9:00 p.m. EDT. The Lions narrowly beat the Hamilton Tiger-Cats last week, while the Stampeders suffered a close loss to the Toronto Argonauts.

The weather forecast in Calgary calls for a high of 15 degrees and a 90 percent chance of rain. The game will be broadcast on TSN and RDS2 in Canada, CBS Sports Network in the United States, and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune-in on Sher-E-Punjab Radio AM 600 (Punjabi) in Vancouver or 770 CHQR in Calgary.

Stanley Berryhill III to return for B.C. Lions against Calgary Stampeders

The B.C. Lions will have receiver Stanley Berryhill III back in the starting lineup when they visit the Calgary Stampeders on Thursday night. The team issued its official depth chart on Wednesday morning.

The 28-year-old caught three passes for 46 yards in B.C.'s season-opener but was then placed on the six-game injured list. He will start at slotback in place of Kieran Poissant.

The five-foot-ten, 190-pound target has dressed for 33 regular-season games over three seasons with the Lions, recording 91 catches for 1,128 yards and eight touchdowns. The native of Tucson, Ariz. had stints with the Atlanta Falcons, Arizona Cardinals, and Detroit Lions prior to coming north.

The Lions have also made a change at running back, where Zander Horvath has been listed as the starter over James Butler.

Horvath had a breakout game against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers two weeks ago, when he rushed 17 times for 191 yards and three touchdowns in a 35-19 win. He was also productive last week against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, recording 16 carries for 62 yards and one score.

Butler rushed for a career-high 1,213 yards and 11 touchdowns last season but has been relatively quiet thus far in 2026, rushing 66 times for 311 yards and four scores.

B.C. has also moved first-round 2026 CFL Draft pick Nate DeMontagnac to the active roster in a depth role behind Jermaine Jackson.

The native of Mississauga, Ont. was a collegiate standout at the University of North Dakota, where he caught 64 passes for 775 yards and four touchdowns over 40 games. This will be his first career CFL game.

Chase Henning, a seventh-round pick out of the University of British Columbia, has been promoted from the depth chart to fill a depth role at linebacker.

The Lions have also moved Canadian fullback Jacob Bond (knee) to the one-game injured list, Canadian receiver Nick Cenacle to the reserve roster, and American returner Jayden Williams to the practice roster.

How come every CGY D player more than 4Y away from the ball is just quitting, or trotting, or laying down for a nap?  They can't be tired already -- CGY has had the ball 75% of the half.

Weird lack of effort.  As guys who recently got hosed by BC, I'll give them a little tip: try harder or BC will rip you a new one.

Ya, BC OL is not that great.  That RT is very suspect.  Rourke makes them look like all-stars.

Wow, it's quite incredible to watch Rourke's fast-twitch acceleration when he gets a whiff of pocket breakdown.  If you're a DE tasked with contain, you can never, ever, try an inside move on the BC pocket, because you'll never catch up to Rourke.

Also, VAJ outran Betts on a full-on 1-on-1 race to the edge.  Crazy.

Us teams with oldster, slow, QBs really need to do what SSK did with Trevor and HAM with Bo.  We can't just play normal ball like BC or CGY or MTL (or even TOR) and expect to compete with these young, agile QBs.

I have no idea why we haven't retooled to do this.
