Enjoy being the one person sitting on the 50 yard line in an empty stadium.

My old seats would have gone from the 50 yard line (Americans think that is the perfect spot, sounds great, in Canada it was still great, but we know ;) ) to the 45 yard line.  Less cache.

12.5 yd EZ's to preserve the 55 yd line might not be enough, and its more Americanization than losing the 55.  15 yd EZ is a compromise, the 20yd EZ is iconic, and gives a lot more play in the scoring zone, you can layer routes all INSIDE the EZ.

15yd EZ reduces that, but removing the goal posts gives some play back.

The iconic 65 yard width, and 50% deeper EZ keeps the Canadian feel, even without the purely Canadian but goofy 55 yd line and goal line goalposts.

Literally no one knows how wide the field is. The 55 yard line is the iconic part of the field.

Literally everyone knows the CFL field is a LOT wider than the NFL field.  First thing any NFL player comments on, especially QB's and rec's.  They love all the extra space to make plays in.

If any NFL player mentions the 55yd line, it's with a smile and a giggle.

As far as game play goes, the 55yd line is a nothingburger, the 65yard width is literally a game changer.

Not made up.  Rider forum had a poll when the news broke and it was about 5% were gonna quit.  And those fans are more diehard than most.

I'm positive if we took a poll here we'd get 5% (or more) too.  Don't make me do it...
It's pretty obvious based on what people have been posting on the forum.  When Goldie tells you he might quit, you need to wake up to the damage you're doing to the league.
Never go full Johnston!

So let me get this straight, losing the 55 and shrinking EZ to 15 is "less Americanization" than keeping the 55 and shrinking the EZ to 12.5?  That's bass ackwards.

And if my 12.5 number isn't enough, then 12, or 11.5.  Who cares.  Make it whatever it needs to be to keep the 55.  Then the entire "fit the stadiums" argument about the 100Y field becomes moot... UNLESS, there's an ulterior motive for killing the 55.

(P.S. I ran the stadium pics through my image manipulation programs and I'm nearly positive 12.5Y would be more than enough to fit all stadiums.  Maybe even closer to 15Y.)

And you'd be saying the exact opposite if Johnston had announced he was keeping the 55 and shrinking the width.

If I asked you 1 day before the announcement "what are the top 3 things that define the CFL game", you'd have included "55 YL".  Guaranteed.  (And I doubt you would have included the width!)

And when Johnston comes for the width in another 3 years... we'll be holding you to this post defending the 65Y width.

Let's imagine that the initial announcement would have been a 110 yd field with 10 yard endzones along with moving the goalposts to the back of the endzones.
That is no less 'americanization', the pushback from fans would have been the same.

Not true at all.  Run a poll.

Why?  Because there's no numbers printed in the EZ.  Every casual fan can see the 55; they don't even know how many yards the EZs are.

Plus, you could do a 110+10+10 without ripping up the 2 stitched fields.  You could just paint the new dead line halfway through the EZs and try to green-paint over the stitching beyond that.  Not ideal, but teams would grok it.  Heck, the MTL field has those dumb soccer goal lines printed on it that are 1/4 the thickness of CFL lines.

The biggest impediment to getting Americans not to say "huh?" about our field is banishing the 55.  That is a big part of why they are doing it.

Also, if Johnston came out tomorrow and "changed his mind" to 110+10+10 I bet a whole lot of fans would say "ok, I can live with that vs. his ridiculous prior ask".

Americans are not interested in the UFL.
Americans will have even less interest for 3 Down CFL 2027 football, regardless of field size.
Furthermore, there will be no interest in Canadian 4 down football either, so no point in going down that path.

The goal should be to choose the field size that will provide a better game.
Working with the two options at 130 yards, that would be the 100+15+15.

5% of .05% is not a lot...  casual fans are not of the same sentiment.

Quick question.

Do any fields have a 55 yard line, or a line marked "C".

Quick review shows PAS and Mosaic both have "C"

I believe that PAS is marked with 55 this year.
It has been a C in other years though.

The Bombers changed centre field to 55 after Wade Miller took over the team.
