That was not the outcome I expected - at all.

Nicely done, RedBlacks.

The Stamps and Bombers now have the same number of losses. We need to close the gap and win against the Argos. Then we play the Stamps the following week. I know they have the season series, but 2 Bomber wins in a row would look pretty good about now.

Hamilton plays Edmonton then the Lions. I'll be cheering the TiCats on in both games. So the next two weeks could really define the standings.
One game at a time.

Beating the Argos also clears the way for a crossover spot, if it should come to that.

Ottawa O line looked quite good.. against a good D line.

New centre I guess really helped.

They ran the ball effectively and Dru mostly had time to throw.

They have very good d players, maybe they will turn it around. Good start.

And Calgary looked ordinary.

RebusRankin

To be fair, Calgary was missing their starting QB and 4 starting WRs in Begelton, Barnes, Alford and Philpott.

exactly.  and they only ran Mills 7 times so maybe he was hurting as well.

still good for us though

Opinions on the play if PJ Walker? Does he have a future in the CFL? I think he might. He obviously has to clean up the picks. But I liked the zip on the ball and the mobility. He was short on experienced receivers too, which didn't help.

You have to forgive Tecno for his take on kickers. He was spoiled by Justin Medlock and now Castillo which makes noodle-legged kickers like Paredes look ... normal.  :P
Go Bombers!

Walker has a big arm and throws a nice looking pass. He mostly made the right reads and delivered the ball to the open guy. His stats would have been much better if his receivers could catch the ball. He can run, but he didn't do enough of it last night. Hint: If you want the D to flow with the QB on the RPO, the QB has to run the ball a few times.

His accuracy isn't up to contemporary professional standards. For example, he had a wide open receiver behind coverage and threw it behind him. That single play would have been a 70ish yard TD pass.

I'd have to see him play a few more times to get a better understanding of what he can really do, but from what I've seen, I think he's got a chance in the CFL.

I thought he could have done more with his legs but he was determined to stand in there and chuck it.

He's got a good arm, a smooth delivery, and fired off a few Patriot missiles at close range. Tough for any receiver to handle. He was missing the touch on the wide-outs and the deep balls but I suspect that'll come as he gets used to the size of the CFL field.

Hard to judge from a small sample size but I thought he showed promise. It'll be easier to tell if we get to see him a few more times to see how well he adjusts.

Walker was around late last season with the Stamps, so he's not a pure rookie, he had the entire off-season to learn the game.

Story as old as time.

30 year old NFL journeyman comes on with expectations. Fails to perform. Maybe shows promise but at that age, no one will invest the time needed before their skills start to degrade.

a) Every ball is a heater.  We've seen this a lot from NFL-heavy guys.  CFL RECs aren't as good, you need to adjust the heat on every throw, and use the zip only for the knife-ins and 60Yers.  If he can't adjust this, he'll be useless in the CFL.

b) Horribly inaccurate on the wide outs and anything horizontal.  Not used to the 60Y, maybe has angle calculation brain problems.  We've seen this at times from many QBs: sometimes fixed, sometimes not.

c) Inaccurate to a fast moving target (the behind throws).  Fixable?

d) Seems to think it's all a game or joke, based on the looks on his face.  Glad he's "just having fun out there", and he's probably even been told to; but at some point you have to care more, or you're another Johnny Football.

Summation: We've seen his type before, and they usually don't stick.  If anyone can QB Whisper him to success, it's Dickenson TG.  30/70 he becomes "good".
