They didn't?  When it's 6'6 REC vs 5'6 DB, all the QB has to do is put the ball up around 7'5 and it's a guaranteed uncontested catch.  The REC can just leave his hands up there and hold it over the DB like he's 3.  Nya nya na booboo

There's a strong trend in the CFL right now to the tall/beefy REC.  By many teams.

It's a shame, really, because if I just wanted to see giants play, I'd watch NFL.  I miss the days of Dressler and the Flyin' Hawaiian.

But 6 yard curls are cutting it.  They talked this week about how the CFL % completion is massively up in '25 because CFL is moving towards the short and behind-LoS pass game.

Look at T.Harris.  Massive numbers and it's 90% short game.

The 6 yard curls CAN cut it, as long as you scheme correctly and execute (which means be super fast so the zone can't close).

The problem is that short game is what WPG is absolutely worst at.  We royally suck, for whatever reason.

Quote from: dd on July 21, 2025, 08:05:30 PMWow, we have Mitchel in house, paying him, we could have called white, who has a couple years pro experience and everyone's excited about this guy?? Really.??

Mitchell is clearly a FIFO bust headcase and will be released soon.  Us starting Case over Mitchell would be like HAM starting Ternowski over Kenny.  It's not something any sane team would do unless there's a problem with the guy.

White is also cleary a bust because a) we unceremoniously dumped him and b) no one picked him up.  Maybe he's injured, maybe he's too old, who knows.

Quote from: dd on July 21, 2025, 08:05:30 PMHe's as green as they could  get, i doubt this guy see a a snap regardless of how tall he is

Well, the team looked so bad for 2 games that we're reduced to grasping at the "please let this rando guy be the next Schoen" magical thinking game.  Sigh.

The blueprint for successful offenses (NFL and CFL) is not 6 foot 6 receivers. Smaller DBs can and do successfully cover taller wide receivers every week and at every level of football.

It helps to be taller to play wide out. It's less important in the slot.

But the most important factor for any receiver is talent. Everyone knows this. Suggesting otherwise is nonsense.

Agree, good size, speed and skill sounds like.  Just needs to learn and adapt to the CDN way of playing pro ball.

Milt Stegall is 6 foot. Ontario Wilson is 6 foot. Greg Carr is 6 foot 6. Julien Edelman is 5 foot 10.

It only matters if you're good.

Correct. But.....

You forgot Dressler.

Nothing to get excited about,  they will keep him on pr,until they run out of options and he can learn the bomber way... Unfortunately

Maybe hard to say with any certainty. A lot depends on injuries that happen. Obviously Schoen is out long term possibly even season ending. D. Mitchell status to ever play is a giant question.

Since we previously only had Case on the PR, we're now down to one Canadian and Mitchell that have been with the team since TC.

The new guy could be playing in a week if we have another injury or he get get cut outright as new candidates are found.

You never know what any new player will be capable of doing unless he plays.

I might point out that the Lions cut Lawler after TC the 1st season in the CFL and Winnipeg picked him up.

Anyway. I wish him luck and maybe someone at practice can report on how he looks.
One game at a time.
