Blue In BC

Games start today and over the weekend. I'll probably channel surf a bit to see if anything obvious has changed. Mostly curious about attendance levels.

I don't remember hearing about any CFL free agents signing down there for this season. We have heard about some players from that league signing CFL contracts for TC.

I'm surprised it's survived as well. They had originally planned an expansion this season of another 4 teams IIRC. Obviously that fell flat.

I expect a further decline of attendance and revenue this season. If that happens this could be the end of the league.

The only sad part is that it takes away this additional opportunity to play and earn an income for those players.

It being a joint venture with Fox Sports (this content is cheap compared to other content) and The Rock (vanity project for a very rich man), I understand it's continuation.

As to it being "jobs for these players", not sure just how lucrative...

Here's a more detailed breakdown of UFL player compensation:

    Weekly Salaries:
        Active Roster: $5,500 per week.
        Inactive Roster: $2,500 per week.
Training Camp: Players receive $850 per week during training camp.
Housing Stipend: Players receive a weekly housing stipend of $400.
Per Diem: Players also receive a $55-a-day per diem stipend during travel days.
    Player Accolade Bonuses:
        Player of the Week: $1,000.
        All-UFL: $2,500.
        Player of the Year: $5,000.
        MVP: $7,500.
401K Contributions: UFL players also receive $150 a week towards 401K contributions.
Injured Reserve: Players on injured reserve receive $2,500 per week (plus the housing stipend).
Contract Length: All contracts run from January 1st to August 24th.

Ya, it is, but for some players, they're still playing football, still keeping the dream alive.

Keep in mind it's a 10 game season and it's US $$$. $5500 / per week is as much as CFL ELC deals for an 18 game schedule.

Is there no extra money for top players or is this a flat rate for every player on the AR?

Either way, I briefly watched the 1st 2 games in Q1. My interest was just to assess live attendance.

Essentially the attendance was not good. Whether those in attendance paid or how much they paid IDK.
