Pushing the boundaries to keep going to those cups.  I'm ok with it.  If the league really wants to clamp down, they'll make the punishments far more severe.  The current setup is just begging the teams with deep pockets to overspend.

That said, I bet the greenie forum is lighting up with "WPG cheats" posts right about now... so we fans have to take the greenie heat for a little while.

Kind of hilarious about the Ticats though... haha, nothing to show for their overspend.

Rempel could have kept going a few more seasons.  I think we moved on because of him getting trucked (spurring the "Rempel rule") and maybe he didn't want to get beaten up any longer?

We certainly didn't win much on the age front, moving from Rempel to Benson bought us, what, 2-3 years younger age?  Kind of funny, actually, going from like 38 to 36 or something.  So age wasn't really the huge factor there.

And we had that other guy, the PED guy with the long hyphenated name, named after the President of Gallifrey, right?  We let him go.

I think for LS you want a guy who can just snap well without launching them high.  After that some athleticism or beef is gravy as then he can also be an effective 2nd-last redoubt against a TD return.  That said, I can't recall Rempel ever making a tackle, nor Benson.  Even the kickers make more tackles, it seems.

Again, I'm not worried at all at LS... when we need one, they'll be there.  Worst case is you hang onto Benson until one shows up, or heck I bet Rempel could still do it if we drag him out of the mothballs.

Quote from: Throw Long Bannatyne on April 19, 2024, 03:32:06 PMSeems like a really good program, I would like to know how it's funded, surely it can't be the Bombers picking up the entire tab.

From the sounds of the announcements and press releases the small airlines are either paying a big chunk of it, perhaps through free or heavily discounted seats on flights.  That's just my guess, though.

wonder if it had to do with sitting out a number of players before the western final and promoting a number from the practice roster.

According to his highlight video, Montrae Braswell looks like a decent kick returner.

Hmmmm. I guess that answers whether we had more money left to spend at the end of 2023 in order to re-sign potential free agents. Might have been a re-signing bonus or 2 that pushed us over the limit.
