Blue Bombers sign national receiver Drew Wolitarsky to two-year extension

WINNIPEG, MB., December 15, 2019 - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has signed Canadian receiver Drew Wolitarsky to two-year contract extension. Woliltarsky was scheduled to be a free agent in February.

Wolitarsky (6-2, 226, Minnesota, March 22, 1995 in Santa Clarita, CA) will be entering his fourth season with the Bombers in 2020 after being selected by the club in the CFL Supplemental Draft on June 27, 2017. Born in California, Wolitarsky is classified as a national in the CFL as his mother is from Montreal and he provided the necessary documentation to qualify as Canadian.

He started 17 regular season games for the Bombers in 2019, pulling in 33 passes for 361 yards and four touchdowns and adding eight receptions for 118 yards in three post-season contests.

He posted his best numbers in 2018 with 45 receptions for 650 yards and five touchdowns, his yardage total second only to Darvin Adams on the team. His 650 receiving yards that year were also the most by a Canadian receiver for the Bombers since Gerald Wilcox in 1995 (69 catches for 1,024 yards). Wolitarsky made his CFL debut in 2017 and dressed for five games that season.

Wolitarsky played his college ball at Minnesota and upon graduation, was tied for eighth spot in all-time receptions (130) and ninth in receiving yards (1,749). He was named an All-Big Ten Third-Team All-Star and Academic All-Big Ten as a senior.

Love it! This is almost a daily occurrence!

Solid is key in many ways. Canadian, key possession style receiver, and a great character guy.

Streveler has gotta come back soon now right? His Bro is locked up!

Great signing. Now we just need to get S. Bryant signed and resolve the QB issue. Offense will be pretty solid once we get that done.

EDIT: I forgot that Adams is a potential free agent but expect he'll re-sign shortly.

I would be surprised to see Adams gone.

Well this was a pleasant surprise especially since it's for 2 years. I admit that I was hard on Wolitarsky this season but I'm hoping that it was just the way he was used this season. Nice to keep our Canadian depth in place and give whatever QB we sign some weapons.

Jacked about this signing! 2 years, nice. Now, let's sign a QB who can keep this talented young receiver busy.

often the target of many on here but a consistent performer that can likely be signed at a reasonable cost.  I want him back.  He is clutch.

This is a really nice Christmas present.  Some were thinking he might be gone, with increased salary expectation.  So: what do we guess his salary is?  Can we afford to spend huge $$ on NAT WR?  I'm thinking it must have been reasonable, but surely a big bump from his ELC?

Woot Woli!  Play some more air guitar for the kids!

(I'm so happy that Demski is still on contract this year!  Whatever "overpay" we did for Demski when he joined was worth every penny.)

Might be my favourite Bomber; being Canadian, a solid receiver and blocker...and a positive energy guy that fits O'Shea's attitude...
Def a key signing!!

I'd be surprised if they paid Woli more than $140,000 which is a nice bump from his first contract, he's a solid blue-collar receiver much like Cory Watson, but he's not likely to become anything more than #3 or #4 receiver on any team.

Speaking of Cory Watson.

Just saw @RonaldHilaire95?s social media post.

Cory Watson has joined the @McGillAthletics staff as an offensive assistant wide receivers coach.

I assume Watson has reached the end of his CFL career and now will pursue other opportunities in his post football life.

Great career. Started late (I think he was 27 when Mack drafted him in 2010) but to have managed to stay on rosters for 10 seasons is extremely hard to do, Canadian or not.

Happy he can return to home to Montreal and start getting coaching experience. I expect to see him emerge in the CFL as a coach some day.

I've liked Wolitarsky from the get-go. I feel we can, should and will weave him into the offense more in the future.
