Title: Introducing........ Post by: ModAdmin on June 16, 2014, 04:01:58 AM With many new members to The Extra Point over the past year, we are re-introducing an Introduction thread.
Tell us a bit about yourself and your history as a loyal Blue Bomber fan. As a start, I am: - a 50+ year Blue Bomber fan, - originally from Winnipeg now in Vancouver, - retired from work, now a volunteer with the Blue Bombers - a member of this forum since 2007 Title: Re: Introducing........ Post by: Canada_44 on June 16, 2014, 04:48:36 AM 20 plus year bomber fan,
I'm originally from Parts Unknown but now live in Winnipeg Hockey and Football are my 2 fav sports to play and watch Title: Re: Introducing........ Post by: tlf on June 16, 2014, 06:54:17 PM I grew up beside my Dad watching football and hockey. Dieter Brock was my idol as well as I loved Jamie Stoddard. We moved to Calgary in my teens and I got to enjoy the Flutie/Pitts era. Moved back home 20 yrs ago...I started cheering for the Blue again even when I was still there. You always come back home.
I'm a STH and could never not go. I went to my first live game in a Cowtown and it was quiet. I thought it was weird, didn't understand why ppl went lol. Here, it's different. I'm hooked for life. I love this team, the fans our spirit. I volunteer also but am not retired. :) Title: Re: Introducing........ Post by: blue girl on June 16, 2014, 09:55:25 PM I'm a 50 year old fan. I've been a fan for 38 years and a season ticket holder for 9 years.
Title: Re: Introducing........ Post by: Pumper on June 17, 2014, 02:59:17 AM I have been a Bomber season ticket holder now for 28 years.
I was asked to be a Moderator on this forum, from its inception. I'm a whopping 52 years old, with 3 adult children, and I love helping out on this forum. Title: Re: Introducing........ Post by: Tehedra on June 17, 2014, 02:44:41 PM Good Morning Everyone!
I have been a Blue Bomber fan since I was quite small; but stopped watching football when I went to college. I have just got back into watching football again in the past three years and have just started beginning to get involved in forums this year. I read many of them last year but didn't really participate. Originally being from Manitoba and than Saskatchewan and now Alberta, I have been lucky enough to get to enjoy the typical rivalries that develop. Half of my family cheers for Saskatchewan while the other half cheers for Manitoba so I do enjoy following both. I'm hoping to eventually be able to see more Blue Bomber games this year now that they are in the WEST; I haven't ever seen the Calgary stadium so I do hope that this year might be a first. Edmonton is much closer though so that is typically where I take in my games. Cheers! Tehedra Title: Re: Introducing........ Post by: Marni on June 17, 2014, 02:59:23 PM I am ...

Post by: Jesse on June 17, 2014, 03:54:03 PM We'll hi there,
I'm 27 and started becoming a Bomber fan during the 2001 win streak, but didn't seriously start following and going to games until I graduated high school and got a job in the 2004 season. - Was a three-year season ticket holder but have given them up for this season. I'm sure I'll get them back in a few years. - because of when I started fooling the Bombers, Charles Roberts is my favourite player. My dream has been to see a team with a QB to actually make the all star team. - I guess the most important part of trivia is that I am of the generation of fans that have never seen the Bombers win the grey cup (I was two during the 1990 season). Title: Re: Introducing........ Post by: New_Earth_Mud on June 18, 2014, 12:48:08 AM 38 year long Bomber fan. 45 years old,

I'm 40, and I attended my first game as a 7 year old in 1981 on a rainy summer night, only to see the Bombers lose to the Eskimos. I was a season ticket holder in high school. The 1990 Grey Cup happened during my grade 12 year. I returned as a season ticket holder in 2013, despite living in Edmonton. The logistics of that didn't make much sense, so I didn't renew. I do own 7 jerseys, so I think my fan status is still pretty good! My grandfather was a big fan, and we often went t games together or watched them on TV together...over the phone with him in Winnipeg and me in Alberta. The last game we attended together was a certain July game in 2006 in Edmonton. I vaguely recall a remarkable ending to that one. He's been gone for a few years, and the next Bomber Grey Cup will be a bit bittersweet simply because my grandfather won't be around to celebrate with me. Title: Re: Introducing........ Title: Re: Introducing........ Post by: pat the rat on June 24, 2014, 01:26:54 PM I have been a Bomber fan since the late 70`s
Followed the team religiously the past 20 years... I am 44 years old, was a Season Ticket Holder from 2000-2009 until I moved to Cgy for Work. Have attended 16 LDC`s and founded the True Blue Booster Crew in 2003. I am also an Original Member of this forum and enjoy reading many of the Posts. Simply amazed at times at how passionate our fan base is...LOVE IT! Don't post as often as I used too simply because I am in Cgy and don't see the team up close like I used too... Title: Re: Introducing........ Post by: KINGCHARLES on June 24, 2014, 08:36:45 PM Im 33 yrs old(34 in October) and self proclaim myself as a fan since birth. I believe my earliest memories were as a 4 yr old when the Bombers won the 1984 Grey Cup.
im a fan of all levels of football and have no preference as to whats better as a kid/teenager/ young adult i played amateur football from 11yrs old to 19 yrs old. from my experiences playing football and watching I'm always too overly optimistic my team can do well/make a come back. Love stats/comparisons/projections ive gone to aprox 97% of Bombers home games since 1997(as a season ticket holder since 2000?), missed aprox 4 games and those are all since 2010 when my son was born the day after a Bomber pre season game(wife was in labour during the game), I've gone to 3 Bomber games in Calgary and 2 in Edmonton. My all-time favourite Bomber is Charles Roberts hence the name KingCharles (okay who doesn't also include Milt Stegall as their all-time favourite) I pray to the football gods that the Bombers can have a franchise QB, a QB that can be our QB for 10+ yrs and lead us to multiple Grey Cup Wins, i'm hoping that Drew Willy can be that guy (my overly optimistic side?) Title: Re: Introducing........ Post by: 1chad on June 26, 2014, 02:54:29 PM I have been a Bomber fan since the late '70s. I remember some lean years under coach Ray Jauch (rebuilding of course), loved watching Dieter Brock just send rockets down the field. Always tried to go to a few games each year. Became a STH in '97 and sat thru some painful games under Jeff Reinbold. Fondest memory of that era was our first win under that coach; and the fans pouring onto the field after the game. Gave up the ST for a few years and renewed in 2006. STH ever since. I always cheer on the Bombers & am one of the overly optimistic fans who think we will win the Grey Cup every year! (Hope springs eternal)
Still have my BrockBuster T-shirt! Bomber themed wardrobe rivals the most avid fan! I have 3 favourite players - Milt Stegall, Doug Brown and Joe Poplawski Title: Re: Introducing........ Post by: jayrock on June 26, 2014, 03:03:21 PM Hi my name is Jayrock...and I am a Riders fan.
Born in Winnipeg, grew up in Saskatchewan, moved to Winnipeg to go to school. Got a job, meet my wife....here for life. Just cannot bring myself to not be a riders fan, but find myself following the bombers almost as much; home town team kinda thing. My genius plan of repopulating Winnipeg with young rider fans, has not gone all that well, 3 new bomber fans in my house. I know I should not have agreed to let my wife stay home and raise the kids. Title: Re: Introducing........ Post by: bear_pants on June 26, 2014, 03:39:46 PM In about 8 hours year 11 of being a season ticket holder will commence... I think I've missed 2 home games in that stretch... yes I went to all games last year :(.... I was alive but barely coherent for the 88 and 90 Grey Cup so I'm basically part of the generation that has never seen a championship.... hoping for some positive things this year...
Title: Re: Introducing........ Post by: wpg#1 on June 26, 2014, 08:37:20 PM I'm an ex Rider fan. Born and raised in Saskatchewan ( Moose Jaw ) moved to Winnipeg in 85. I was a huge Rider fan when I lived there, and when I moved to Winnipeg, I was still a fan. After moving to Winnipeg, I started going to as many Bomber games as I could because I LOVE the CFL, and eventually got season tickets while going to school. ( section S discount ) ;D
My friends and family back in Sask, got quite upset at the fact that I was now cheering for the Bombers and going to the games here ... even though I was still a Rider fan. The rivalry started. They treated me like I was now the bad guy, and I would get calls, end emails all the time, especially when the Bombers lost the Labour Day games. If you think back, those just happened to be the few games the Riders would win back in the 90's because the Riders had horrible teams. So, this rivalry grew bigger and bigger, until I stopped cheering for the Riders at all. My friends and family were relentless. The BLUE completely took over, and the green faded to nothing. I actually hate the colour green now. I love my old home town, and the province of Saskatchewan, but loath the Riders and anyone wearing green ;D So, I now have season tickets, and am a PROUD Bomber fan !! Title: Re: Introducing........ Post by: luvblue on June 27, 2014, 05:49:28 AM Hi...my name is Luvblue & I haven't been on here for quite awhile
but I did & do read most posts... My Dad used to bring me to the games (I am female) because my brothers were busy or too young and my passion for the Blue grew from that... & now my daughter from me. My fave players were Mack Herron, Ty Jones, James West & Joe Poplawski to name just a few. Have been a fan over 40 yrs....season ticket holder on & off since the 90's (due to kids & little time). Have been back full-blue for a long time now & can't think of anything I'd rather do than watch our Bombers all season. I miss it when it ends in Nov & love it when training camp starts & the anticipation of 'what the new players' coming onboard brings each year.... it just never gets old! Oh & yeah...my girls were born 1988 & 1990...the last years we WON the Cup... I am a true BLUE fan heart & soul..always & forever. Title: Re: Introducing........ I have been a season ticket holder since 1976, thus my "handle" I'm cute too...so Marni, there are 2 cute female Moderators. :D My family used to watch the Bomber games on tv. My parents could never afford tickets. I started going to the occasional game in the mid sixties, and fell in love with it. Finally getting season tickets in 1976. Saw them win 3 Grey Cups in that time...what a feeling for you who haven't experienced it. It will come...and soon I hope. My son, who is 27, also comes to the games, and we have converted his girlfriend into a football fan too. I AM a Blue blood! ;D Title: Re: Introducing........ Post by: famicommander on July 05, 2014, 07:58:51 PM Born in 1990 and have always lived in Denver, Colorado.
I'm just a huge sports fan in general. I love football and I appreciate the differences between the CFL, AFL, NFL, and NCAA versions of the sport. Growing up in the 1990s the CFL was only on TV in the states every now and again. I'd watch the games when they were on, but I didn't really follow a particular team. Around ten years ago games started becoming more available to me, due to the internet among other reasons. At that point I decided to pick a team, because it's always more fun to watch sports if you have a rooting interest. I chose the Bombers because I liked their name and colors more than the other teams, and I've been a fan ever sense. I'm really happy about the league's ESPN deal, because it means for the first time I won't have to miss a single game this year. Other sports teams I follow, in order of how much I like them: Denver Broncos (NFL) Colorado Rockies (MLB) Colorado Avalanche (NHL) Denver Nuggets (NBA) Colorado Mammoth (NLL; haven't missed a home game in 8 years) Denver Outlaws (MLL) Colorado State Rams (college football and basketball) Denver Pioneers (college hockey and lacrosse) Iowa Barnstormers (AFL; I was a diehard Colorado Crush fan but sadly they no longer exist, so I picked Iowa to follow in 2010 and have been a fan since) I also dig boxing and MMA. Can't stand soccer, auto racing, or tennis. Will sometimes watch the last day of a major golf tournament, but not really big on golf either. EDIT: can't believe I originally omitted the Nuggets. Been through some brutal years with this team, but I still love 'em. Title: Re: Introducing........ Post by: ModAdmin on July 05, 2014, 08:58:52 PM Welcome to the forum Famicommander. :)
Title: Re: Introducing........ Post by: LongLiveTheCFL on July 07, 2014, 05:01:06 AM I'm a 21 year old fan who's never seen a Grey Cup Championship in Winnipeg but witnessed the should-be Championship of 2007 if it hadn't of been for Glenns injury.
Been following the Bombers since 2005 to the point of over-indulgence and NFL from 2005-2008 watching NFL network year round 5-6 hours a day. Played football from 10-17 as a SB/WR , could have gone alot further if it hadn't been for two injuries to the same knee unrelated to football. It's fully rehabbed and I'm in the best shape of my life but at my age I don't see any chance at getting anywhere, so I'm happy enough to just watch the bombers even though I've wanted to attempt to make it onto the team; Maybe I'll try an open camp sometime in the next few years ;] My favorite player is Jim Brown, the famous FB from the Cleveland Browns. One hell of a strong player. Favorite bomber of all time is also Stoddard though I also loved watching Armstrong at reciever when he was here in 2007? Title: Re: Introducing........ Post by: Doublezero on July 15, 2014, 08:39:07 PM My pop took me to see Kenny Ploen and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 1966.
Played football when I was younger & attended a CFL training camp as a player but did not make the club. :o Covered football and hockey as a reporter but that doesn't mean I know much. I do like to get out and play run and catch still. And now that I am able to be just a Blue Bomber football fan - this is the most fun of all. Go Blue!! :D Title: Re: Introducing........ Post by: iso_55 on August 11, 2014, 08:42:36 AM Hey, started posting here yesterday. Started watching the Bombers seriously in 1965 although I have cloudy memories of watching the 1962 Grey Cup as a little kid barely in elementary school with my family.
Went to my first Bomber game in August of 1969 with my friend. We sat in the old Salisbury House End Zone in the south end zone at Canad Inns Stadium. My ticket cost me 50 cents back then. We beat the mighty Saskatchewan Roughriders 16-14 that game. It was Bomber quarterback Wally Gabler's first game that night. He came to Winnipeg in a trade with the Argos for running back Dave Raimey who happened to be my favourite player at the time & still is today. We were last in the West & the Riders first. They were undefeated & we were winless. We were huge underdogs that night & beat the heavily favoured Riders. I liked the Bombers a lot but after that game I was hopelessly hooked on the team & have been now for 45 years. We'd only win 2 more games that year but I didn't care. I had 2 Bomber season tickets from 1974 to 1989 when my wife & I moved to Calgary where I was a Stampeder season ticket holder from 1990 to 1998. My kids got into playing football here in Calgary & after the 98 season I gave up my season tickets as I was coaching & missing too many games. I still have one son playing football at Simon Fraser. Still in Calgary... now over 24 years. I really like the Stampeders but I love the Blue Bombers. We have some interesting rivalries in our house as my sons are diehard Stamps fans. My oldest was born in Winnipeg but we moved here to Calgary when he was 4 & my youngest was born here. At least this season I have some ammunition to fire back when the trash talking starts. :) Anyway, some of you may know me from other CFL sites... as I've been around. I don't know if that is good or bad. Look forward to talkin' to y'all. Title: Re: Introducing........ Post by: bibitte2 on August 26, 2014, 01:48:49 PM Hy boyz & Girlz,

I can't remember if I ever posted here before and that's because I never felt I could add to a home grown fan base. You see, I was born and raised and still live in southern Ontario. I've been to many Bomber games in Toronto, Hamilton and Ottawa. I've only been to one home Bomber game in the old stadium. I hope to add more in the new IGF. I wear my Bomber gear proudly and I'm happy to say my son is a big fan too. We were at the Varsity pre-season game. Many people ask me why I support the Bombers and I answer that I want to be a fan of a team that is exciting and plays hard, even if they don't always win. I got to meet O'Shea, Drew Willy and Reaves at the Varsity game. I would really like for Reaves to make an impact. Wouldn't that be historic. I can't remember the last time I missed a Bomber game on TV. Cheers from the biggest Bomber fan east of Thunder Bay.

Hello everyone, I am just wanting to introduce myself to all the posters on this site. I have been on this site many times reading all you thoughts and takes on our great team but this is my very first posting. I am 42 years old and bleed blue and gold from every fiber of my being and always believe every year that this "is the year".. The first time I will get to be drunk in the pride and love for my bombers, and my brother and sister blue nation raise the Cup and end this Grey Cup drought. Growing up I wasn't all that interested in football until I was taken to a game in 1991. That's right the year after they last won the elusive grey cup. We have had some close ones and ones that were stolen from us by the riders due to the fact our quarter back was freaky eyes Dinwiddie that year. Yes that one still stings. I feel like we are seeing a great coach and dynasty in the making being born. I hope that birth is this season in our home town Winnipeg. This city would explode like stories of past home victories that have been shared. Well that's me and I look forward to talking and sharing on this site with all of you. Let the road to the cup begin. Going Deep Title: Re: Introducing........ Post by: GOLDMEMBER on August 15, 2015, 11:29:30 PM Season ticket holder since Reinbold's first year.

Thanks for organizing and maintaining this site, its a great resource. Title: Re: Introducing........ Post by: Realist on October 09, 2015, 08:08:32 PM Hi All,
I've been following this site since about 2010. I've been a fan of the Bombers and the CFL since around the time Leon Mcquay dropped the frickin' ball and I had to pay my grade 5 teacher (a nun) 5 bucks. Our family moved into St.James in 1975 and I have lived close enough to walk to Bomber games ever since (well not any more since the move to IGF)... I spent a few summers working in southern Saskatchewan in the 80's as well, so I saw first-hand how much those people love their football. I might even say I'm a bit of a Rider fan as a result (ptteewww, man, that was hard to type!!). I was in the eighth row behind the Edmonton bench the night Matt Dunigan threw for 713 yards. I have been a season ticket holder off and on - most recent stretch since 2011. I don't proclaim to be a X's and O's football expert but I know enough to comment and discuss. I am a realist - not an overly-optimistic lollipop and rainbows lovey-dovey fan. I have been a true fan through the lean years before, during, and after the last three Blue Bomber championships. If I wasn't realistic, I wouldn't enjoy the CFL game as much as I do. I have appreciated the talents of players on the other teams - Warren Moon , Anthony Calvillo, Geroy Simon, Allan Pitts, etc. This team came close more often than not as fans my age recall. The Bombers were once the class of the west and other teams did not enjoy playing them. Stick around long enough and it will happen again. Offense wins games, defense wins championships. Believe in Blue! Title: Re: Introducing........ Post by: New_Earth_Mud on October 09, 2015, 08:47:56 PM Hi All, I'm 53 years old and I've been following this site since about 2010. I just started posting recently. I've been a fan of the Bombers and the CFL since around the time Leon Mcqauy dropped the frickin' ball and I had to pay my grade 5 teacher (a nun) 5 bucks. Our family moved from west of Winnipeg into St.James in 1975 and I have lived close enough to walk to Bomber games ever since (well not any more since the move to IGF)... I have been a season ticket holder off and on - most recent stretch since 2011 when I talked my spouse into coming to games with me, even though she proclaims to hate sports. We now travel the 40 minutes by bus to and from Polo Park to as many games as possible and we give our tickets to various other fans - minor football players, our kids or whoever - when we can't go. She now knows enough to make noise when the other team has the ball and she know what first downs are!! I don't proclaim to be a X's and O's football expert but I know enough to comment and discuss. I like this forum and the different characters on it which is why I chose to post on it. Welcome to the forum. And hello from another guy that lives in St James and close enuff to walk to the games at the old digs. Title: Re: Introducing........ I'm a 34 year old male, born and raised in Winnipeg. Grew up watching the Bombers and Jets with my dad. My earliest memories of the Bombers are going to games with my dad at the old Winnipeg Stadium in the early 1990s... I remember going to Bomber practices as well with my dad and specifically remember meeting and getting pictures with Greg Battle, Michael Richardson, Chris Walby, Robert Mimbs and Matt Dunigan. I have also been coached by a couple of ex-Blue Bombers, as Dan Huclack was our special teams coach when I played for the Rods in the mid 90s, and Rick House was one of our offensive coordinators when I played for the Oak Park Raiders in the late 90s. I became a Winnipeg Blue Bomber fan in my last year of high school 1991 when A friend had an extra ticket to a game. From that moment on I have bled blue and gold . I have been blessed is seeing and experiencing some amazing games over the years with and many amazing football plays and players. Only thing I have never experienced standing at Portage and Main in November, despite being so close. I am so excited for the upcoming season. A beer in hand and the sound of the fireworks going off as our 2017 takes the field for the first time is all ways magical. Looking forward to a great season and standing at the corner of Portage and Main with my fellow blue fans. Go Blue Title: Re: Introducing........ Post by: LostChargersFan on July 04, 2017, 08:14:04 PM Hi All,
I'm a native San Diegan, now without a football team to call my own. I have been a loyal and long-suffering Chargers fan for 52 years. During that span, I have seen the NFL become purely a corporate enterprise, with no loyalty to the fans. So I am done with the NFL. I've settled on the Bombers as my adopted team, and listened to the Saskatchewan game on CJOB. I am looking forward to getting to know some folks here, and hope to make it to at least one Bombers game this season. After one game, I'm already loving the CFL. Title: Re: Introducing........ Post by: ModAdmin on July 04, 2017, 09:51:48 PM Welcome to the official Blue Bomber Forum! I believe we read your story about losing the Chargers and finding the Blue Bombers. You will find a loyal and passionate fan base in Winnipeg and on this forum. Hope you enjoy the discussions and we look forward to your participation.

I would imagine there are quite a few of us wandering around out there, trying to find our way to a new football home. I believe I have found mine.
Title: Re: Introducing........ Post by: ModAdmin on July 06, 2017, 04:12:09 AM Recommend if you do plan to catch a game...come up to the Banjo Bowl on September 9th (Saturday). Always a fun weekend and and a chance to mingle with fans and players. More details will come out closer to that time.

I am a Canadian and graduate from an SEC school. The Canadian game is quite exciting and pass happy. It is a very different game than the NFL. The one thing you can count on is that the team is not going anywhere. I undertand that many games are on TV in the US. I was in the US this weekend and the Hamilton v Saskatchewan game was on. Also there are some streaming options. CJOB does a very good job and is arguably more exciting that the TV commentators. I know many people that watch the game and listen to CJOB. when I was 6 yrs old. I grew up in rural Manitoba so just listened to the games on radio with my older brother. We memorized the height, weight and age of players, made football scrapbooks and charted many of the games on sheets of foolscap which we taped together. I ate Post cereals which I hated just so we could get the different CFL cards on the back of the cereal boxes. I saw my first live game when I moved to Winnipeg in the early 70's to attend the U of M where I played flag football and hockey. I love sports of all kinds, but my favourite is CFL football. Mine was Billy Cooper #1 and Ken Ploen #2. I was commenting on someone else's FB when he asked our all-time fav. Bomber players. I couldn't believe it when a guy also said Billy Cooper #1 and Ken Ploen #2. Billy wasn't with the Bombers very long, but was a Rookie of the Year in the West and a great receiver for us. I really liked Leo Lewis and Ken Nielsen too. Now my fav. player in Ian Wild #1 and Clarence Denmark #2. Title: Re: Introducing........ Post by: Lincoln Locomotive on August 20, 2017, 12:31:31 PM LOL Lincoln Locomotive! My brother's fav. player was Leo Lewis too. Yes "Doc" Nielsen was another favourite of mine but he just missed the bus as far as being on all those Grey Cup winning teams. He still has the CFL record for longest play from scrimmage at 109 yards. Ken Ploen threw a strike from the endzone that he caught around the 35 yard line which was about as far as he could throw it and took it all the way to the house. He also made one of the most spectacular one handed catches ever which was a diving catch where he completely laid himself out, landing face down with the ball cradled in his outstretched hand. I wish I could find a video highlite of that catch because it was something that didn't happen that often in the CFL in those days! Mine was Billy Cooper #1 and Ken Ploen #2. I was commenting on someone else's FB when he asked our all-time fav. Bomber players. I couldn't believe it when a guy also said Billy Cooper #1 and Ken Ploen #2. Title: Re: Introducing........ Post by: Maudie fingerjammer on April 26, 2018, 11:43:51 PM First memory of the bombers was in 1953 in the Grey cup game that they lost to Hamilton. I did some research on wiki to refresh my memory. It confirmed my memory of listening to the game on our large counsel radio. This is my first Bomber recollection:
?With the score 12-6 and time running out in the fourth quarter, Jacobs put together yet another long drive of 98 yards to the Hamilton two-yard line. On the very last play of the game he passed to an apparently wide-open Tom Casey, standing on the goal line. But as the ball reached his hands Hamiton's Kusserow hit Casey and he dropped the ball. Winnipeg fans claimed pass interference and Hamilton fans called it a very well timed tackle. Even examination of the game films has not succeeded in resolving the dispute. However, the officials called no penalty and Hamilton won the game.?😫 Next great memory was in 1957 at my Cub Scout father son banquet. My dad was sick and unable to attend. Kenny Ploen was the guest speaker. They made him my honary father for the evening. You can understand why he was always my favorite Bomber. Leo Lewis a close second. Fast forward to 7 years ago. I was seriously ill with cancer. It was touch and go. My family got bomber plates for my car, a jersey with Ploen on the back, and a history of the bombers, autographed by Kenny Ploen courtesy of the bombers. Need I say more!! BB🏈 Title: Re: Introducing........ Post by: ModAdmin on April 27, 2018, 02:45:15 AM Thanks for sharing your stories Maudie. You have some great memories and we hope many more memories to come.

Title: Re: Introducing........ Post by: PloenFan on June 01, 2018, 11:13:05 PM Bomber fan since the early sixties, when my dad had the Bomber game on the radio while our family was driving through the Minnedosa Valley on Highway 10 from Brandon to Dauphin.
The announcer kept talking about a player named Kenny Pleon, who became my favorite Bomber. Now living in Edmonton, may favorite Bomber moments were watching the Bombers win the Grey Cup in 1984, and Milt Stegall's 'Miracle Catch' in 2006. Title: Re: Introducing........ Title: Re: Introducing........ Post by: TrueBlue4Life on June 15, 2018, 09:38:31 PM I grew up (debatable) in Winnipeg, but moved to Edmonton when I was 25, then moved to the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) when I was 30. Despite leaving The Peg 37 years ago, I remained a loyal Bombers fan. My parents were both Bombers fans and I watched many games with them. Had season tickets before moving to Edmonton, but once in Edmonton, I only went to games when the Bombers were in town. Luckily, I got to see the Bombers win the Grey Cup in Edmonton in 1984. Have only been to a few Bomber games in Toronto, since I'm quite far away from downtown T.O. But I still watch every Bombers game on TV and still LOVE IT!!! Haven't been to the new IGF stadium (it's on my To Do list) but it looks fantastic on TV. I would have been a Jets fan too, but there were no Jets when I was a kid, so I'm a long suffering Leafs fan. Oh, and a recent suffering Raptors fan too. Btw, kudos to the Jets for their playoff run - I watched every game and they were amazing! Cheers to all the posters in this forum and here's to a great 2018 CFL season. Go Bombers Go!!!

So I started a new one. :) :) :) :) :) :) Title: Re: Introducing........ Post by: gbill2004 on August 15, 2018, 12:04:44 PM New account, old member. Welcome back! And lol at the new name...I love it! Went to a game because it seemed to be most like Rugby. Immediately bought season tickets and have been STH ever since except for two seasons when health problems intervened.
True Blue. Title: Re: Introducing........ Post by: ModAdmin on May 20, 2019, 02:09:42 PM Stay true blue Knocker and enjoy talking Bomber football here.

I met some ppl from England on line playing poker about 12 years ago and introduced them to our football and our Jets. Pretty kool to see them take pics in England wearing our swag. Title: Re: Introducing........ Post by: jdrattops on July 31, 2019, 10:35:55 PM 50 year Bomber fan, was a season ticket holder for many years but was transferred out to Brandon for work. Still make 3-5 games yearly, and one day will once again hold season tickets. Blue and Gold 4Life!!!!
Title: Re: Introducing........ Post by: ModAdmin on August 01, 2019, 03:15:09 AM Excellent and welcome. Good on you for keeping connected with the Bombers! There are a few Brandon Bomber fans on here together with other Bomber fans from across Canada.
Title: Re: Introducing........ Post by: Scratch Pad on February 13, 2020, 04:27:53 AM Pushing 60, my mother... yes my mother, introduced me to the Bombers when I was a wee one. We've had season tickets for 40+ years. Odd thing though... the Bombers winning the Grey Cup was anti-climatic for me. Once Hamilton won the Eastern final I knew the Bombers would not only beat Sask and go to the cup but I knew they'd beat Hamilton as well. Because that's just the way it is. Title: Re: Introducing........ Post by: ModAdmin on February 13, 2020, 04:59:42 AM Welcome to the forum Scratch Pad. Hope you enjoy the discussions on our favourtie team!
Title: Re: Introducing........ Post by: TecnoGenius on February 15, 2020, 08:29:48 PM Hi Scratch! It was similar for me... I knew once we beat CGY that we'd make it to the GC. But to be honest, I gave us only a 50/50 chance of winning it. However, wasn't anti-climactic for me... being there at McMahon with my son when the clock hit 0:00 was one of the best days of my life! Enjoy the forum.

Enjoy the forum. Prior to last years Grey Cup, the Bombers and Ti Cats have played in the cup game 9 times with the Bombers winning 6 times. Now it's 10 times with the Bombers winning 7 times... 70% How could we not win it. Title: Bomber Fan For Life Post by: Go Big Blue on February 29, 2020, 05:43:56 AM Bomber fan since the 50's. Season ticket holder Sec W East Side in the old stadium from 1968 to 1980 then we started our family. 1st date with my wife was 1971 right after we shared a Grey Cup ticket at work and won.
Moved over to Sec 129 West Side in the new stadium when the corporate seats were brought in on the East Side. My Mom was also a big Bomber supporter and when she got into her late 90's she cheered twice as much as us when she thought that the replays were the next play in the game. When the Bomber games were blacked out the guys we worked with used to go to our family cottage north of Gimli at Valhalla Beach to watch the game as it was just outside the blackout area. BBQ, Beers & Bonfire. Back in the 80's my good friend from work was a big Double Blue fan so we started betting on the Grey Cup and the loser had to wear the winners Jersey for a week at work. Later we switched to betting one beer on every Bomber game in the season and squared up after the Bombers last game. Lost a lot of beer in the 29 year GC drought but will never bet against the "Big Blue". In the 50's and 60's we used to go to the old Brooklyn Speedway. Always sat near the top in the stands and once saw a tire come off a car and bounce thru the parking lot and end up on the road. Lucky I missed the night when the car went thru the fence and ended up in the stands. Title: Re: Introducing........ Enjoy the discussions and the season ahead!

Hopefully we'll get a season to talk about sooner rather than later. Title: Re: Introducing........ Post by: New_Earth_Mud on September 15, 2021, 09:34:32 PM Well hello...... Im back!!!!

WEST SIDE SUCKS!! Remember that chant in the 80's from the east siders! :D ;) Title: Re: Introducing........ Post by: TecnoGenius on June 15, 2022, 12:58:05 AM I'm not new here, as most know. But I want to post in "introducing" that for the first time I (and my son) are Season Ticket Holders! We're very excited. We go to most games anyhow, but, to be honest, I got sick of dealing with (and paying) TicketMaster every other week.
I'll miss trying to snap up day-of deals on StubHub, and miss moving around to all sections, but overall I think this is the right move. I had some questions and I texted the number on the BB STH FAQ page (good idea providing text!) and a nice lady called me within 5 minutes and answered all my questions intelligently. Can't remember her name but she really knew her stuff and that really helped. Probably the one everyone here always mentions with delight. I ended up just buying the STs on TicketMaster upon her advice and it was quick & easy. I didn't know you could do whole ST through TM! No financing that way (at least not at the late date I purchase them), but the price was low enough I don't really mind. WFC/TM must hold a few seats in most sections all around the stadium for late ST buyers (like me). Very smart move! So, lifelong Bomber fan, uber fan for 10 years now, finally got my STs. Very happy. Go Blue! Title: Re: Introducing........ Post by: pjrocksmb on August 08, 2022, 10:29:17 PM I'm not new here, as most know. It's hard to put it into words because it's not just the usual talking points. Give that lady a raise WFC! |
