Title: The GAMING Thread
Post by: blue_gold_84 on August 16, 2012, 12:48:20 AM
Just came out yesterday. It's more or less Grand Theft Auto but set in a real world locale (Hong Kong)... Solid story, lots of character development, exciting and realistic battle system, simple yet effective upgrade system, and good visuals/sounds. Overall, I'm very impressed with how it plays. Lots of fun. Similar theme to the Yakuza series on PS2 and PS3.

If you like sandbox style action/adventure games with beat 'em up and basic RPG elements, I recommend checking out this game.

Now I'm gonna go back to playing it. ;D

I'm playing Ocarina of Time as this downloads :D I was actually just going to change the topic title of that Day Z thread to a general gaming thread to talk about this :P

I believe this game was actually being developed as a sequel to the True Crime series but when SE acquired it, they decided to take it in a slightly different direction.

From what I have seen, I really love how much is on the screen at all times, I've always hated the vehicle/road/building pop-in that games like GTA and SR seem to suffer from.

Finally finished downloading (Would have been done earlier if my PC would stop going to sleep despite my usual bypass for that) to find out that Hi-Res textures is free DLC, that takes up just under 4 gigs of disk space...

Still not as bad as Max Payne 3 I guess :/

Saw BMW85's idea of starting up a general gaming thread and thought it was a great idea.

Personally I'm excited for Resident Evil 6 and Halo 4.  OH and the new Starcraft 2 expansion/sequel... I'm still killing it online in SC2 two years after release, it will be nice to get some new stuff to play with.

Sweet.

I'm waiting for Starbound, been following the development of it for a while now. Borderlands 2 should also be a blast.

I have a bunch of games I have wanted to play for a while now, but I'm waiting until I go back to school so I have something to keep me awake during lectures :D Bastion, Unmechanical, BIT.TRIP.RUNNER, Botanicula, Lone Survivor, Machinarium, Samorost 2, Superbrothers: S&S, and Trine 2 should keep me busy for a while :P

I'd list what I'm currently playing but I keep switching :P I've got Max Payne 3, Windwaker, Ocarina of Time, Mario Sunshine, Hitman: BM, and of course a bunch of games I play for the online aspect (NHL, Madden, BFBC2, CoD(Reluctantly))

Hey sweet. This is awesome.

I'm pretty much exclusively a PC gamer though. Love PC games. Have the other consoles but barely ever play them

Kinda nerdy - but does anyone have guild wars 2 preordered like me?

I'm waiting for Torchlight 2 after the disappointment that was Diablo 3. I'm not exactly sure why Blizzard decided to take everything that was fun about Diablo 2 and remove it completely, but from the gameplay around Act II of Hell on, I am assuming it had something to do with the Auction House. It just seemed liked Blizzard decided their idea of fun was the only way they were going to allow anyone to play the game, and unfortunately their idea of fun sucks and has zero replayability which is the biggest thing needed in Diablo games.

Nice. Looking at the PSN in your signature, I think I have you as a friend but I could have sworn you were someone I added after a random encounter in a game I forget :D

On a gaming related note, I've been working throughout the summer before I go back to school and I haven't really spent anything since I started. I'm looking at Newegg and seriously considering a GTX 670 or a HD 7970 :P

Nice, I was thinking about Metro 2033 but I had already bought too many other games :P I ended up picking up quite a few cheap indie games, some old console favorites (Bioshock pack, Red Faction pack, GTA Pack, Borderlands, Just Cause 2), and some games I had always wanted to play but never got around to (New Vegas, Bulletstorm, Hitman: BM, Mafia 2, Fable/Fable III, Dead Space 1 & 2)

I played some of Thief, Elementalist, and Hunter.

Think I like Elementalist the best. Might go with a Sylvari. I like forests and stuff haha.

lol yup they were quite interesting...as much as I liked the original design of the sylvari better they did get a really nice starting area. My overall plan is to have a character from each race (professions still undecided) then at least that way i'll get all 5 sides of the personal stories

Resident Evil 6 is gonna be coco bananas. I cannot wait. I'm also looking forward to Assassin's Creed III.

In the meantime, I'll be happy with Sleeping Dogs. I wasn't sure what to expect but it's the game of the summer, IMO.

Yesss the best thread EVER.
Halo 4, MoH Warfighter and Borderlands 2 are going to be my shooters of the year.
I'll be playing The Old Republic when it goes free to play this fall and the new Day Z game that is going to be a stand alone game.
I still have to update my graphics card for my PC. My current one is fine for games like Team Fortress 2 and WoW but I wanna start playing Battlefield 3 on it.

Yeah, I wasn't all that impressed with Saints Row. As for GTA, the older games on PS2/Xbox (III, Vice City and San Andreas) are so much better than GTA IV.

Sleeping Dogs, on the other hand, is really only similar to GTA in terms of the environment in which the game is set. Sprawling city, people everywhere, lots of vehicles, wide open exploration, etc. The battle system is light years ahead with the upgrade/level up system (very similar to the Yakuza series), a complex fighting system (martial arts with combos, takedowns, defensive moves, weapon disarms, etc.), and a very engrossing storyline (at least IMO) with solid characters and a plot on par with a good movie. But it's non-linear, so you can step away from the story to explore (tons of hidden items to find), do side quests, learn new skills, even do street racing.

The stuff Square Enix has been making the last decade or so hasn't been all that great and I used to be a huge fan of Square/Squaresoft back in the day. Coupled with United Front (a Canadian developer), they've managed to put out a pretty solid game.

How is it?

I won't comment on the actual gameplay since I'm a little mad at the game right now, but I do not think I will be buying this game on Tuesday.

Unfortunately, Madden 13 suffers from yet another case of Game Devs trying to force people into having fun the way they want people to have fun. For some absolutely idiotic reason, it has been decided that you cannot play anything other than Play Now with edited rosters. If you want to play a full season, you get to play with EA's roster updates and that's it, even in offline career.

I don't know about anyone else, but I like to either create my own team (No longer in the game), or edit the rosters and player ratings of one team to fill it up with a bunch of CFL Player/Players I like (I just spent an hour trading Hunt, Wake, Elimimian, Bilukudi, and other similar players to the Seahawks to play with Jon Ryan/Browner and put their ratings to respectable levels) and when I go to play with that team, the only way I can use it is to play single games with no meaning. The only way I can play with these players is to trade from them on an EA Sports roster Career, only to have them rated in the low 60's and unable to function like regular adults on the playing field. I swear to god, every defensive play I had in the only game I tried this, Hunt would get pushed over onto his back and flail around like a turtle within 3 seconds of the snap.

Absolutely unacceptable IMO.

Madden has always been overrated.
The only football game I play now is Backbreaker. It was years ahead of Madden at the time and Madden is just now starting to catch up with it. (it came out in 2008)
It's probably like $10 at EB or Bestbuy and you can play the story mode with your own team. You can make trades, edit players names, completely overhaul their jerseys/logos, draft players etc. Fun game. There is like 6 different modes you can play also.

you talking about the demo right? As the release date for the game is the 28th. The demos for madden are usually play only...were as the actual game you can do all the edits etc.

I have the full version of the game. EA Sports Season Ticket... for $25 you get Madden, FIFA, NHL, and I think one other game 3 days early (Full version of the game minus the Ultimate Team modes). All of your saves carry over when you purchase the actual game on release date. You also get a discount on DLC and a bunch of Ultimate team packs or something like that, I forget what else is included alongside the early releases.

It may seem a little excessive to pay $25 just to play a game 3 days early when you have to buy the full game on release, but in this case I think it's cheaper when I find out the only reason I play these games is not included and saves me the $60 price tag.

Another thing I hate about Career mode which I just encountered, is when you want to play as just a single player you create, be ready to spend an excessive amount of time in practice trying to raise your rating if your favorite team has good players in the position you want to play. All I want to do is be a RB on the Seahawks, but I have to spend 8 months practicing to get pointless XP to raise my rating... I understand this may be fun for some people, but honestly, give people an OPTION on how to play the game, don't force your gameplay down the users throats.

Removing this god awful thing so I can try out the NCAA 13 demo.

I kind of liked the way the game played, it wasn't a huge overhaul or anything like that but the game felt a little more wide open than previous games. I always felt like in Madden 12, there was still too much of a scripted feel to the game. I know anything could happen, but often times very similar results would come from certain plays whenever you ran them.

I agree with the predictability of M12. There were always running plays where you knew it was a guarenteed 5-14 yards or passing plays where based on the DBs movement it would be a automatic pick. That being said I really enjoyed M12s Franchise mode with all the indepth features such as moving the team, creating a stadium adding upgrades to the stadium, endorsements etc.

Im huge into the franchise mode and from what you have said and what I have read regarding the madden "connected" thing kind of has me leery of purchasing it as I usually play the offline traditional franchise mode and I dont know if I am going to enjoy this "connected" careers thing as much.

I've been playing the NCAA 13 demo a bit, and it is miles ahead of Madden IMO.

The gameplay in NCAA is drastically better than it is in Madden, it makes Madden feel like an arcadey NFL Street type of game. The presentation is also EXCELLENT in NCAA 13. The partnership with ESPN has really allowed them to create a presentation unrivaled by any sports game.

If I can go online and create my team with my own imported logo, and fill it's roster with players I created online like I could in NCAA 11... there is no question that I am going to purchase this game as soon as I can tomorrow.

How is that supposed to work when playing with friends?

In Black Ops, I had a 4.1KDR, my friend had a 1.2/1.3KDR... What is the QoC if we are playing in a party?

The Arkham Asylum and Arkham City games are both incredible. So much depth, so much to do, loads of fun. Killer visuals and an awesome battle system, too.

As for Madden 13, it sounds like it'll be alright. Same with NHL 12. EA Sports hasn't exactly been wowing me with its games lately, though. Then again, EA as a whole has been choking on it for some time now.

That sounds pretty cool but I'm just about done with COD.  Each iteration since MW2 has been worse and I don't see it turning around.

@BMW85: For parties, Starcraft 2 does it so that you have a ranking, and your buddy has a ranking, but if you play 2v2, your 2-man team gets its own ranking (mostly) unrelated to the individual rankings.

Meh, I don't really care since even if I do pick it up it will only be played a few weekends here and there when I'm either not out doing something, or am tired of other games.

I find CoD games to be nothing but a bunch of individuals running around doing their own thing. No fun at all IMO and there is absolutely no challenge whatsoever. You can use any weapon in the game and try out any stupid tactic you can think up and it's still highly possible to finish with a 30K 5D type result in TDM.

It looks way better than the first for sure.
And don't even bother buying Blops 2. Get Halo 4 if you want an actual quality shooter with an in depth campaign and arguably the best multiplayer on console.

CoD and Halo are Faaaar from quality shooters IMO. I would call them horrible video games that still provide decent entertainment.

If I want a quality shooter, I'll play a game like Half-Life or Bioshock.

I also disagree with your other point. CoD and Halo are the worst multiplayer games on consoles IMO. Absolutely vile fanbases and community, everything that is wrong with human beings filters though the speakers of your headset on a minute by minute basis. You then get into a game and run around as individuals just trying to get the best score in a team based game.

Halo 3 was the best online multiplayer game I've ever played, and MW2 not far behind.  As for listening to the other people online, i'm always in party chat when I play so I don't have to deal with it.

Unfortunately both series have taken a turn for the worse in the last couple iterations.

Have to agree that COD and Halo are the best multiplayer games out there and have the most competitive community unless you are on PSN then the multiplayer is trash.

Really video gaming leaps were:
Zork
Legend of Zelda
Mario
Halo

Since then mostly me-toos with little new to any of them.  All variations on the same idea.

I think that list is a little simple, you could have added quite a few games to it that were also huge leaps. Not disagreeing with your selections though.

Yup, just as i thought. You are like every other person on the internet, only your opinion is right.
Halo is a bad game because this guy over here says so.
CoD is a bad game because this guy over here says so.

So if i say that Uncharted is a terrible game, does that make me right?
What about Bioshock? That game is awful because you know, i said so...

If you actually followed anything Halo 4, you would know how outstanding it's looking.

I've seen what's been done to it, nothing at all about the game is groundbreaking.

both the Halo and CoD series have become so stale and generic that free-to-play games are being released the offer an identical experience with the same level of innovation, if not more.

Groundbreaking? no.
What shooter is groundbreaking though? Borderlands maybe. Battlefield, Killzone, CoD, MoH, all modern day shooters are basically the same. Even Bioshock follows this formula of gameplay except it has an amazing campaign.
The only shooter that in my mind is truly different, is Tribes Ascend. That game is crazy.

Not the same thing at all.  Music is an art to be appreciated.  Video games are there solely to entertain.  If they aren't buggy and they provide hours of fun to millions, they are good games.

My impression is that you just don't like multiplayer FPS games.  And that's fine, good for you.  But don't slag games just because you don't like the genre... that doesn't make it a bad game.

I love Multiplayer FPS games. I have put an enormous amount of hours into them. I'm likely much younger than you, but I can almost guarantee you have only put in a fraction of the amount of time I have into playing them.

If you are using popularity as the sole factor of what makes a good game, and claim video games are solely to entertain, there is no point in even trying to get anything through to you

Agreed. Video games are no less artistic than music, movies, painting, etc.

The popularity of a game doesn't quantify how good or bad it is. Certain genres appeal to the masses more than others but that has nothing to do with the quality of a game.

You're probably right about the time because I play games from all genres.  Not to say I haven't been putting a massive amount of time into FPS's ever since Wolfenstein... Because I have.  Obviously this is just subjective and I know you think your opinion is the only correct one.  But i'd love to hear what made Halo 3 a "terrible" game in your opinion.  The campaign was awesome, especially co-op, and the multiplayer was unbelievably fun.  I just can't see what was wrong with that game to call it terrible.

Some good points. Everyone has their own personal preference in regards to music and even video games. Some will be more main stream and gross billions and others will be great but overshadowed by another. Obviously we all like and dislike certain franchises and games and bickering will not change anyone's mind on their preference.  Example. I enjoy the MW series and believe it is a great series and more then entertaining but bioshock was just ok and I would never recommend it to anyone....boom try and change my mind...but you can't. Meaningless arguments...now pass the scotch, I need another drink.

Sure... I'll share it. ;D

That's just my point, though. The popularity of a game or game series alone doesn't necessarily define how good or bad it is. Neither does individual preference, though. I love the MW series, as I do pretty much every COD game to date. I love campaign mode but get bored of multiplayer too quickly. Conversely, there are others who hate campaign mode but love the multiplayer.

To each his own, right?

Not enough time to play both Borderlands 2 AND Torchlight 2 :(

Also, NHL 13 is awesome. I don't know if it's the game, or just luck, but of the 8-10 games I have played online against or with my friend, they have all be really close, really fun, devoid of crap goals, and the stats (shots, PIM, hits, faceoffs... even just where shots are taken and where goals are scored from) are all very realistic.

Resident Evil (AKA Biohazard) is the game when it comes to the survival horror genre. The main titles have all been great, IMO. The first three in particular have a special place in my gamer's heart.

Yup I played the demo co-op and loved it thats why i'm kind of on the fence about it...RE5 took a lot of flak for being different but at the same time I can't count how many times I played through it solo and co-op. I guess my biggest issue with it is they took away the gun upgrade system but the upside of that is its no longer a farming run to buy them all

Very similar to Uncharted. Much more action-oriented than previous games but similar style to RE4 and RE5.

I played through about 3 hours of Leon's campaign earlier today. It's a serious, serious game. And loads of fun. Capcom seems to have done a great job.

I'm looking forward to getting my hands on ACIII, Forza Horizon and maybe dishonored.  There doesn't seem to be as many deep content games as there was 10 years ago, it's all just graphics now.
Boo I'd rather have PS graphics and a deep game then 360 graphics and a bad story/gameplay.

If you feel that's the case, you should probably check out Sleeping Dogs. Lots and lots of content and a solid and lenghty storyline on top of that.
ACIII is shaping up to be in the good graphics, good content category, too. Halo 4 looks like like it may fall into that one, too.

I do agree, though. There are so many games with little to no content but good graphics.

So, I finally played ACIII last night. Awesome game. If you played the others, you will most likely enjoy this one.

If this is the final AC installment, I really hope Ubisoft decides to release a boxset of some kind in the future. This has been one of my favourite game series during the seventh generation of consoles.

Far Cry 3 is easily the best Far Cry game yet. Far Cry 2 was nearly unplayable for me because for some reason my sensitivity felt broken. It would constantly be slowing down while looking or speeding up. Super annoying. The gunplay feels more like Battlefield now which i love. And the Multiplayer is actually fun, same with coop. great game and definitely GOTY worthy. The 3 top games this year have all been shooters.

Anyone watch the Battlefield 4, 17 minutes of gameplay? **** it looks almost photo realistic! Hopefully it's announced for next gen consoles so I can play on the next Xbox. Otherwise I need to upgrade my PC because there is no way current gen consoles will be able to run that beast without having to scale it down a ton.

Isn't BF4 for the next generation of consoles...? That's what I'm guessing because there is no way current gen consoles can make a game look that good. BF3 looked amazing but this BF4 gameplay demo was bananas.

Anyone try Bioshock Infinite? Looks pretty good and the reviews have been solid. I'm still making my way through MGR:Revengeance and GOW:Ascension and then hopefully on to Tomb Raider.

The effort by Microsoft is a good one. The system should be more than just games... at least from my perspective. I have a high-end PC for gaming only and I probably wouldn't want to go over to console for "just a gaming experience". A system that improves TV and let's me keep up with my sports and fantasy teams on one UI is cool though, plus having the ability to couch game.. not bad - I'm interested.

I'll end up with both eventually.. but I agree with you... Sony brought it in E3. I've always liked Sony's systems better than Microsoft's.

SirB&G, you are one of the very few reasonable people on the internet right now. People need to realize that where they like it or not, what Microsoft is doing is the future. It's essentially steam on console. Who isn't always connected to the internet? I know I am, so are all of the people using the internet to complain about it. Plus for almost all of the exclusives Microsoft announced like Titanfall and Forza require constant use of the cloud. And the used game nonsense? Yeah you can trade in used games, as stated by microsoft. It's up to the publishers if they want to opt out of that feature, just like what Sony is doing.

Not to mention, Microsoft had a much more impressive launch lineup than Sony. Exclusives like Titanfall, Dead Rising 3, Quantum Break, Ryze, Project SPark, Sunset Overdrive, Forza, Killer Instinct, D4, Dragon Panzoon(I forgot the full name), Minecraft etc. Vs Sony's Infamous Second Son, Killzone Shadows Fall, Warframe, Planetside 2, Blacklight Retribution etc.

I have been a huge MS supporter and a staunch pro xbox 360 gamer for the longest time. I do not see where MS is headed as going towards the future. If anything in regards to the DRM and always online aspect they are going in a backwards direction and even losing market share in countries which will not be supported by their new consule. Plus making the Kinect manditory with no option to purchase the xbone  without it was very foolish IMO. If they had an consule option that did not come with the Kinect I may of considered to stay with MS.They have lost this customer with their latest offering. It pains me to say I will be stepping over that line to PS after really really really enjoying my 360 and xbox live.

Yes I will miss out on a few exclusives but the only one that held intrest for me was Ryse. On to bigger and better things I guess. Hopefully MS realizes their mistake once they see their first quarter sales vs Sony.

Unreal game. Simply unreal. And highly addictive. All the positive reviews are definitely justified. I recommend this game to any one with a PS3.

As for the whole next gen console battle, I think the world has spoken. Time will tell how it all plays out but I think Sony did all the right things where MS did not. Just my opinion, though.

Civ 5 is amazing. I play it all the time. It's a game you can keep going back to again and again. I especially like the Steam Workshop mods where you can play the entire world with true starting points. It's beyond awesome.

I have well over 100 hours which is a lot but it's been out a long time too - and the expansion this fall should add the the middle + end game which is needed. It's a solid game!

NOt two weeks ago I DL'd Half-Life 2 from Steam - all the espisodes etc., for $6.49.

On the Mac too - and while I waited for it to load, I recalled all the hours spent on HL and HL2...the mood, story line and the sheer terror that it provided. I wondered...will it be the same?

Um, yeah. Hell yeah! Just made it through the Sandlots (with all the chomping, flying antlions) and I'm in LOVE with gaming once again. I know - PS and the X offer a ton...but for me, it's back to PC games of long ago...and a few hundred hours ahead to "waste" on this title. Shotgun, locked and loaded.

I have never played Civ anything but it seems I am missing something.

To Steam...

Picked up Beyond: Two Souls on Tuesday. Very interesting game, similar in style and gameplay to Heavy Rain but a better storyline, IMO. Even though it is a bit harder to follow... The graphics are incredible and the main character is played Ellen Page. She does a really good job, too. Willem Dafoe is also in it.

Much like Heavy Rain, it is a very cinematic and visual game. If you liked Heavy Rain, I think you'll like this game.

I've been hearing such mixed reactions on this game. A good portion say it's great while a bigger portion say it's bad.

Yeah, the reviews have been decidedly mixed. Much like Heavy Rain, which got rave reviews by some and horrible ones by others. If you played Heavy Rain and enjoyed it, though, I'm positive you'll enjoy Beyond: Two Souls.

Nope, I'm picking up the Xbone next week. The PS4's launch lineup is awful and XBox live has always been the superior destination for multiplayer gaming.
I'll probably get the PS4 sometime next summer though, I don't want to miss out on any great games this gen.

A lot of launch games for both consoles were pushed back. Aside from Forza 5 and Ryse, what other exclusives are there worth mentioning? And PS4 did get Killzone but the list of launch titles for both consoles are far from impressive.

Hard to compare free online to paying for it, though. But Playstation Network has come a long way recently. Now that users have to pay to use PSN, that should only lead to more improvements and a better experience.

There are so many good games on the horizon. 2014 is going to be an exciting year for console games.

It's great, loving it so far. Have been gaming hard to battlefield 4 and it's just great. The dashboard and the snap feature are probably the most convenient things to have. And to answer the broken console thing, no I have not had any issues with it yet. Iv heard of some disc tray issues but that's about it. Great console so far

That will be the new thing for me to explore.  I had pretty much every main console up to and including PS2 ... then I got a Wii...then I stopped.   The downloading games to a console and the online presence will all be new.

I'm thinking I may wait a couple months to ensure all main bugs are ironed out.

That's an approach many people are taking - and I can't say I blame them. I've read about issues with both the PS4 (console freezing) and the Xbox One (Blu-ray disc drive malfunctioning) but that's to be expected, as with many new electronics upon initial release.

Totally reviving a dormant thread... ;D

Anyone here play Destiny? If so, have you played the House of Wolves Expansion Pack what do you think of it?

I love it. Beats the hell out of The Dark Below just with the story alone. The addition of Prison of Elders is great, too. I haven't tried the Trials of Osiris yet but it's apparently similar to the Crucible.

Stopped playing destiny months ago before even the first expansion came out. None of my other friends like the game so there's not much of a point for me to continue. But I have been playing the witcher 3, and man does it suck you in.

Yeah, I think it's pretty neat. I really like CD Projekt Red. I bought Witcher 3 on GoG to play it through Galaxy just to support them even though I'd rather have the game on Steam since almost everything else I own is on there.

So far it's been relatively small stuff but I think one or two things will be content they could have reasonably charged $10-$15 for.

Those of you who have played Destiny - how would you rate it?

Haven't picked up the controller in a few months, but eventually I would like to upgrade my console to Xbox One. Any recommendations for new games out there?  I like single player games... Splinter Cell, Assassin's Creed and Prince of Persia were my fav's. Last game I played was the reboot to Tomb Raider.

Borderlands: The Handsome Collection gets you Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Presequel which are both great games.

Hotline Miami 2 is also addicting but it's not an incredibly long game unless you enjoy getting all of the achievements in games. It should be pretty cheap on consoles I would think though.

I'd give it a 7.5 right now. The launch content was alright: the main story was short and somewhat forgettable, but the maps and weapons/armor were good and if you like PVP, the Crucible can be pretty addicting. With the addition of two expansion packs, there's a lot more of everything now: new game modes including Prison of Elders and Trials of Osiris, way more weapons and armor, and added missions/strikes to do. It's a repetitive, heavy grinding type of game but weekly resets keep things somewhat fresh and with the amount of content now I wouldn't say it gets boring. If you like first person shooters with RPG elements, you'll probably enjoy Destiny.

The Handsome Collection is awesome. For $50 on PS4, it's a steal.

From what I understand the PS4 has a slight performance edge on the One. I don't think it's a very large gap but the one very noticeable difference I've seen early on is a lot of devs haven't been able to get games to 60FPS on the One while they have been able to do it a bit more frequently on the PS4. Seems like the One has also had a handful of games that can only do 720p.

Pretty much. The difference is negligible - at least for now. The PS4 runs a different GPU (GDDR5 vs DDR3 RAM) so I think from a graphics processing standpoint, it's got the edge.

Anyways, Naughty Dog announced today a re-mastered compilation of the Uncharted trilogy on PS4. I'm pretty stoked because these games were a blast on PS3.

Looks like it was done by Bluepoint Games, who have a pretty solid track record with re-masters/ports (Metal Gear Solid, Ico/SotC, God of War)

You would have to pay full duty (if applicable) and taxes (GST and PST) for a day trip.

Yup, I'm on the RoG Swift as well. I'm not a big fan of 4k monitors. The resolution is just a bit too large for something so large sitting 2 feet in front of me, and to my knowledge there are not any 144hz 1ms 4K monitors.

1440p to me is the perfect resolution for gaming, but that's an opinion from a guy who recently spent $1100 on a 1440p monitor.

Definitely, I think this monitor will be a top-tier monitor for a while. Only real competitor I can see currently is the Acer 144hz IPS panel that came out recently, although it only does 4ms but it's still pretty badass for an IPS panel. I think the Swift looks cooler though :P

Ya, totally. The other nice one is the BenQ 2730Z. It's 1ms 144hz 1440p and has Freesync which is AMD's new version of Gsync. I took a good look at it..it looks pretty nice too.

Yeah BenQ makes a lot of quality monitors. I really like a couple of their super thin bezel monitors. I'm sure they would be perfect for a multi/triple display set up.

It's good. To be honest I have Witcher 2 but never finished it and never really got into it. Wild Hunt is awesome though. Big open world. Lots of fun. Some streamlined mechanics. Very pretty game on PC anyway. If you didn't play the rest of the series very much (like me) there's a bit of a learning curve and the main story although explained is kind of weird because I don't know all the characters. Still it works well enough and for the most part you're off exploring making your own fun anyway. If you like RPGs it's worth picking up at some point for sure.

Wizard, not sure if this is publicly viewable or not:
http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/DrFeast-1207/hero/48179717

I'm pretty set with my gear by now. Could probably find better bracers, wouldn't mind lucking into a Furnace that has a socket by default so I could roll +10% damage on it.

I think I mentioned this earlier to but Reaper of Souls definitely fixed that game in my opinion. I played it about 60 hours or so in the first week of release but after that I was totally done with it for the most part. I barely played it until RoS came out but since then I have loved it.

Sweet. Congrats! That's not easy. What rift did you get to? I haven't tried any of the season stuff, but now that 2.3 came out I'm back playing again. The update is pretty awesome, cube is fun. I probably won't do season 4 but I'll keep playing regular.

47 in like 11 minutes or something. I've probably already been bumped off by now but I was happy to get on there at all. I definitely have room to improve that number and with the update to opening rifts, improving your time is going to be a lot easier.

Finally finished up a little project I've been wanting to do for quite some time and lit up my monitor and case (Threw in a RGB+W bulb for my room too). Pretty happy with the end result. Everything is controllable by remote, along with all wireless devices connected to my Wi-Fi.

Price for the Rift is pretty steep. I was planning on getting a Vive, but if it's as much as a price increase over the Rift as I think it will be I may be forced to go with the Rift.

Rift looks okay but they seem to be rushing things out a little bit. I don't like that's it's mostly a sitting device. The cost estimate was way off and that kind of makes me question their direction a little bit as well. The Steam VR will be more expensive but it will hopefully come with the motion controllers (not the xbox controllers that rift ships with) and it's designed so that you walk around a room. If Steam is behind it, I'm probably in.

As it stands, it's probably wise to wait a year or so and see where it all goes.

Excellent game overall. Solid storyline, great combat and exploration system (the cover system in particular is excellent, IMO), varied array of weapons/armor, extensive but user-friendly levelling up/skills system, and a seriously massive open world map with a ton of areas to explore (NYC's Manhattan Island N-S from E 14th St. to 56th St. and E-W from the Hudson River to the East River). The visuals and sounds are very realistic, too. A few glitches here and there but nothing that takes away from otherwise amazing game.

The 1.1 Incursions update was released Tuesday and adds features like daily and weekly missions and achievements (similar to Destiny) and additional missions. I haven't played since Tuesday with the NHL playoffs now in full swing but what I did play of the update only added to the quality of the game.

IMO, this is Ubisoft's best game since Watch Dogs. I haven't played Rainbow Six: Siege, though.

Haven't played much this winter but I did pick up Rise of The Tomb Raider and Battlefield 1 online on Boxing Day. Both really good games, particularly RoTTR.

Downloaded Firewatch a while back and finally played it this past weekend. What a fascinating and fun game. A little too short but I loved it.

Haven't really played anything new lately. Have just stuck with Rocket League primarily with a little Siege, Golf With Your Friends, and Overwatch in between.

Think I'll probably get a Vive if I can find an apartment with a good space to set it up. Really nervous at this point about waiting for a version 2 though. Don't want to miss out on a potential wireless model or improved wands or anything like that.

I haven't played a console game in quite some time but I am interested in Horizon. Might check it out a little down the road. Also super hyped for Breath of the Wild. Think I'll just play it on the Wii U rather than the Switch though... feel like it would be smarter to just buy a Switch a few years from now when its price is dropped and the only 3-4 games worth playing they've  managed to put out in that time span are all available already

HZD has been on my radar for quite some time (E3 2015, IIRC). Needless to say, I'm looking forward to it very much, especially after so many positive reviews.

Breath of the Wild looks fantastic. If you pick it up, please post in here about what you think of it. I can't justify buying another console right now. :D

I don't play video games at all - but I have a teenaager who does and he got this new Zelda game for WiiU and it is easily one of the best looking and engaging games I have watched him play.  It was actually fun to watch him play and the map size and ability to just do stuff was amazing - made me wish I could actually play the thing (just lack the coordination to press the different buttons on the controller).

Anyone pick up ME Andromeda? I haven't really heard much good about it and the reviews make it sound pretty underwhelming with some technical flaws and a mediocre story.

I am absolutely hooked on Horizon Zero Dawn. One of the most addicting games I've played in quite some time. Highly recommended if you're a fan of the open-world/adventure genre.

On my Steam wishlist. It's one of those games where if you wait six months and get it on a sale, you'll have an infinitely better experience I think. That's my plan unless I get impatient.

Ended up buying a Rift during their big summer sale. Had used a Vive a handful of times before then and both are incredible devices if you have the rig to run one as well as a decent space to set it up (Although you really don't need too much).

My personal favourite game, and the one that seems to be the biggest hit to anyone that comes over to try it, is Superhot VR

I agree. They're covering all the bases as far as the lore and world to make what should be an epic game. Summer 2019 seems like a highly optimistic projection; I'm guessing holiday season 2019.

It's like Ghost in the Shell/Blade Runner/Shadowrun meets an open world FPS. I am stoked for the next gameplay video/development update.

Considering the prohibitive cost of SSDs back then, it shouldn't come as a surprise they were not used in the current gen of consoles, which were released in 2013. A seven-year lifespan usually results in the technology becoming pretty much obsolete within a few years, especially compared to gaming PCs which are customizable across the board (no pun intended). Consoles are relatively restricted by comparison. Although, upgrading to a SSD in a PS4 or Xbox One has been possible since their respective launches.

Fair. I'm pretty sure my 1 gig SSD was almost 700 bucks back then.

Exactly. Sticking with more "mainstream" tech helped keep costs down*. I toyed with the idea of upgrading my PS4 with one but it didn't make sense cost-wise and I just wound up going with a 2TB HDD instead.

I'm looking forward to SSD technology finally making its debut on consoles. It'll help a lot when one considers the sheer size of video games these days

* Sony really took it on the chin with the PS3 when they went with the highest end available Blu-ray drive back in 2006

Always good to see console specs catch up a bit. Near the end of every console generation you've got technology available for PC's that can outperform the hell out of them, but developers generally aren't going to make use of it if they can't do the same in their console versions.

Anyone here still gaming? Didn't realize this thread has been quiet for so long.

Got Last of Us Part I (essentially a remake) and FFVII Crisis Core Reunion for Christmas and they're both pretty fun from a nostalgic standpoint. The story in TLOU is such an experience, so it's been great to revisit that with improved visuals and gameplay on the PS5. The latter has been particularly nostalgic, as I haven't played it in over 15 years ago when the original was on PSP.
Neither game really takes advantage of the console's hardware but they're both great games all the same.

Gran Turismo 7 has its issues but it plays so well and looks amazing and really shows off the technological prowess of the PS5. The haptic feedback with the DualSense controller while racing is pretty incredible.

I beat Stray last month, which was a pleasantly surprising title for its originality and enjoyment. A solid title for gamers of all ages.

I'm really looking forward to Like a Dragon Ishin and Final Fantasy VXI.
