Title: The LDC pre-game
Post by: Pigskin on August 29, 2026, 06:38:11 PM
Bombers played a very solid game and need to carry that momentum into Regina. This is a big divisional game. Have to cleanup the penalties. Still a few to many breakdowns in the secondary. And, tackling has to be better. Just need to keep improving each week.

With Vaval playing double duty I would like to see us take an LB off the roster and add either Singer or Womack to the Roster.

Penalties are key
Clean up back end big plays and tackling
I would like the LBs to stay, showed great flexibility because of our depth last game
Our receivers are trending up, I am willing to wait to test the new guys late

Everything you said is on point

Keep the creativity on O, put pressure on Harris and continue the strong work at DL

Let Brady cook

Vaval is a non issue as he isn't getting that many reps, but would love a count 😉

No practice till Tuesday. I don't expect a few vet's to practice that day, but we can get a look at ND10, Kramdi, and if Griffin has started the running part of his rehab.

This is the week they pump up the stadium noise at PAS, a painful experience even with ear plugs.  Maybe a brave soul will give a report anyway.

Looks like only a 1 hour practice today and the only open practice of the week.

Texada and Dorian Singer receiving high praise at 3:20..

I feel we need a couple tweaks. Running with Vaval doing double duty if Singer or Wormak can return, they should see the roster, easy to do take off the lowest imp. LB Hazen I believe would be it, he may be knicked anyway. This also helps the receiver depth which is playing too thin both on talent and numbers. Keep Texada on the roster.

The tweak I don't know how to easily tweak is safety, Kelly has and is improving, but he is not there yet and may never be, we are in win now mode, not growing pains mode.

LD is a really tough game to win, can we win, maybe, likely not very. I have been extremely hard on the team this season which I usually am not. Last week we tried some different things and had some different guys get time, and it looked better. Can we keep "tweaking" to improve.....time will tell....

From Derek Taylor:

Day 1 of Bombers practice ahead of Regina:

No Brady Oliveira, Jonathan Moxey, Nic Demski, Redha Kramdi or Stanley Bryant today.

Dorian Singer working with the 1st team O in Demski's spot. Ordinarily that's been Kenneth Womack, so a bit of a change there.

LB Charles-Elliott Bouliane getting a little extra work today. Hasn't played since week 7 vs OTT

Nothing surprising really. Demski got nicked and doesn't practice much but still plays.

I was wondering if we might see Griffin begin to practice in week 4 and nothing is noted. Sounds like 6 games at least.

FS may be less important vs ssk. They will keep 95%b of the passes underneath. Most will be short, but a decent number of mid zone crossers. Maybe a few sits.

Just don't leave Kelly alone on a crosser where the guy is already at full run and turns it upfield.

And keep Kelly back deep. Ssks run game is total butt right now. Our front 7 can easily stop it.

I think ssk will pick on major in his new hb position, waiting for mistakes. Maybe vaval. And SAM.

Key on k Johnson and busby. Everyone else is pretty ignored right now. Ssk is very vulnerable and they know it. Bad Trevor may show up. Expect max d&d 90% of the time.

Conley ran for 80 yards against the Argos last week. I wouldn't rule out their ability to run or ours to be able to stop it quite so quickly.

Bombers need to play 60 minutes close to error free. That isn't something we've been able to do in recent history even in our victories.

Chances of a higher ranking may fall on this home and home series. We need a sweep IMO.

"I play with fire and I play with passion, and a lot of the time it does benefit us and it benefits me, but if I can't control it and some other things end up pissing me off, and it takes me out of my game even a little bit, there's no excuse. I definitely learned a ton."

The 27-year-old declined to expand on what made him feel so frustrated during the game, though it appears to have been penalty-related, as he admitted he talked to the officials "probably way more than (he) should have."

Alexander admitting to getting rattled and letting it affect his game. Trevor Harris has a very similar personality. Get in his grill, talk trash, and he'll start throwing a temper tantrum if things aren't going his way.

Argos contained Conley very well until later when Argos started imploding. Didn't help how much Kelly loves to throw ints. They didn't have the ball much in the 2nd half.

Keep in mind I think Toronto has near the worst run d.

Nichols is on the 6 game IR. So how is he allowed to practice unless they moved him to 1 game IR???

Once again: Oliveira, Demski not practising. Moxey is a newbie to the " DNP ". I think we expect all will play but we're walking wounded.

Kramdi did not practice but I suspected he'd be limited at best this week and not likely to be activated anyway.

Tommy reminds me of a movie character but I can't put my finger on exactly who, he's the guy that fights to the end against all odds even though we all know he's scheduled to be killed off right from the start, he will never concede the fight.  I'm thinking a character from the Alien series but can't pin point. He's not the hero, he's the loser that won't quit, can anyone identify similar characters?

They don't need to move him off the 6-game for him to start practicing but they will need to make a roster move by Sunday. The CBA has some interesting language there this round. Expect Nichols to be on the roster Sunday and he'll either play or he'll end up on the 1-game (or the reserve). I guess theoretically he could have an injury setback, they could shut him down and he goes back to the 6-game. What I'm not 100% certain of is if that then means we're on the hook for the salary relief to this point. Possibly. Probably. But just a guess.

I guess that makes sense and he was a GTD last week. So injury is less severe than we speculated. They must be expecting him to play this week which means Texada gets bumped back to PR.

Unless Moxey is out and then all bets are off. It could be musical chairs in the secondary.

If Clark is out then we see Bouliane back on for ST work.

Riders have some players nicked as well.

Just awesome, some on here gave Jake no respect but sounds like Willie does and that means a lot coming from one of best to ever do it.

Would be great news if Nichols can play and is 100%.  While he hasn't been very good, it gives us a lot of flexibility going forward as changes or injuries arise.

I hope the reason for Nichols subpar play this season is because of a nagging injury and not that he has lost a step.I have always had a sort spot for Nichols because his play in the dying minutes of regulation time against Hamilton in the Grey Cup saved our season.

So, the mtl game was a test to see if mafia thought about our season killer from last year. The next 2 games will see if mafia thought about the Champs and main roadblock out of the west.

Ssk and their max d&d did a number on us last season. Have we found a solution?

The mtl game hints yes.

It's certainly going to be a test of who we are. Can we play 60 minutes on both sides of the ball? I think we can but I'm not sure we will.

The key, as always, is getting to Harris often and early.  His release is quick and he is elusive.

But he is old, and if he gets hit early and often, I can see him making some mistakes rushing the ball out, and our DL, LB's and BD's all dine out on that.

SSK is banged up pretty bad, AJO is still on the 6 game, and the receiver group is compromised.  Conley had a good first game, but has been quiet since, he's no Horvath.

The squeaked past the Argos at home last week, maybe we catch a break and get the W.

That's going to require our DBs to come up and play way more aggressively than they usually do. The only way to get pressure on Harris is to make him hold it. The only way he holds it is if you defend the short passing game which is something JY has really always struggled with.

I'm not sure what we'll see for Nichols or Moxey regarding ability to play. It's almost moot.

From my point of view I will continue to suggest we have better options than Hazen on the AR. It's almost written in stone that we aren't adding an import on offence.

To that end, I'd be inclined to suggest one of the DL be added to keep the rushers fresh. I'd like to see Jaworski be the next guy up.

Whatever our roster in the secondary looks like, IMO this is all about getting to Harris and forcing mistakes.

The Bombers are poised to win this game, they've been playing well recently while the Riders have been struggling with their top receivers out. Seems simple, if they play well on Sunday the Bombers win.

The caveat as always is Zach's health, can he make it through this game or does he get knocked out before half? The O-line did a decent job of protecting him against the Als, but there were still at least 4 occasions Zach got thrown to the ground or trampled violently after he released the ball, which makes him very groggy/grumpy. In these scenarios he never bounces back quickly, there's always a good chance he's down for the count and done for the day.

A bet on the Bombers is for Zach to survive the entire game or for Dru Brown to be able to carry on to victory if he goes down.

That said, Demski hasn't practiced all week and Singer has been the one in his spot.

Though we all know that Demski doesn't have to practice to play. But for a few years in a row we've been hampered in the playoffs, including multiple Grey Cup games, with Demski trotting on one leg so it would seemingly be a good idea to keep the guy healthy if possible.

Cobb has been usurped, backing up Demski and Vaval was his raisin d'etre. If Singer plays it's likely in place of Demski, not Cobb, Clercius, or Daniels in that 12th spot which is functioning as a very useful Swiss army knife.

Harris is key, get to him and we have a chance.  Rattle him, he is good but not elite.  2nd key is OL, 3rd is Brady has got to cook.  So much for the peanut gallery saying to sit him LOL.  That went a little quiet.  You dress the best in the biz.  ;)

This one will be hard to win, records or what you did before don't matter Sunday it's like a different world this matchup

I would enjoy a tight game

predications:
1. We get to Harris a bit
2. OL is average
3. Brady cooks

Daily IR report says Clarke is out so Bouliane probably the next man up.

Kramdi still out.

Moxey listed as doubtful so that throws out a bunch of possibilities to adjust if he doesn't play.

Haven listed as " doubtful ". That brings into play that alternate choice on defence.

Oliveria and Demski listed as " questionable ".  There seems to be some speculation that Demski won't play he's a tough cookie when the game comes around.

Bombers list DB Jonathan Moxey and LB Dylan Hazen as Doubtful for Sunday.

Ridge Texada would quickly fill in for Moxey at the field corner.

In Hazen's place...don't be surprised if REC Dorian Singer makes his CFL debut. He's consistently impressed in camp and practice.

I could see them putting max effort into their run game vs us. They'll look to see what Horvath did and try to replicate it.
