Saskatchewan Roughriders swap five starters against Argonauts
by 3Down Staff August 28, 2026
The Saskatchewan Roughriders will have five different starters in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Toronto Argonauts. The team published its official depth chart on Friday.
Shemar Bridges, who signed with the team this past week after being cut by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, will start at boundary wideout. The 28-year-old had his best season in 2024 when he made 83 catches for 933 yards and four touchdowns to be named All-East Division and the East Division's nominee for Most Outstanding Rookie.
D'Sean Mimbs and Daniel Wiebe will also both start in the receiving corps this week. Mimbs was most recently on the reserve roster, while Wiebe dressed in a depth role and handled return duties.
Mimbs has made 11 receptions for 125 yards over eight regular-season games in 2026, while Wiebe has caught three passes for 57 yards and one touchdown.
Dylan Djete, who started at boundary wideout for Saskatchewan's last three games, has been moved to a depth role behind Wiebe at field-side wideout. The second-round 2026 CFL Draft pick has recorded 11 catches for 108 yards and one touchdown as a rookie.
The changes in the receiving corps were prompted by injuries to Samuel Emilus and Johnny Johnson. Emilus (leg) has been placed on the six-game injured list, while Johnson (head) is now on the one-game injured list.
Zack Fry has retaken the starting job at left guard. Erik Andersen started the team's last three games, two of which Fry missed due to injury. Fry returned to the lineup last week, but dressed behind Andersen in a depth role.
Saskatchewan will also have two new starters on defence, as Seyi Oladipo Jr. will start at strong-side linebacker and James Burgess Jr. will start at field-side cornerback.
Oladipo Jr. has dressed for three regular-season games as a rookie this year, making two special teams tackles. The Boise State product will be making his first career CFL start.
Antoine Brooks Jr., who did not appear on the injury report this week, has been moved to the reserve roster. He has made 57 defensive tackles, two special teams tackles, one sack, and one forced fumble over 10 starts this season.
Burgess Jr. was released by the Roughriders following training camp, but rejoined the team in June. He played four collegiate seasons at Alabama State, collecting 94 total tackles, four tackles for loss, a sack, a forced fumble, 21 pass breakups, and six interceptions over 40 games.
Nelson Lokombo, who started the last three games at field-side cornerback, will start at safety this week, as Jaxon Ford (ankle) has been moved to the one-game injured list.
The Roughriders have made one other roster swap, as American defensive lineman Devin Adams has been moved to the practice roster, and Canadian defensive lineman Liam Hoskins has been promoted to the active roster.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders (6-4) will host the Toronto Argonauts (5-5) at Mosaic Stadium on Saturday, August 29, with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EDT. The Argonauts are coming off a 39-20 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, while the Roughriders lost in Vancouver by a score of 30-16.
The weather forecast in Regina calls for a high of 26 degrees and sun. The game will be broadcast on TSN in Canada and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune in on TSN 1050 in Toronto or 620 CKRM in Regina.

Toronto Argonauts to debut two new starters against Roughriders
by 3Down Staff August 28, 2026
The Toronto Argonauts will have two new starters in the lineup when they visit the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Saturday. The team released its official depth chart on Friday morning.
Rush Reimer will start at right tackle in place of the injured Brandon Kemp. The six-foot-five, 304-pound blocker signed with the team in December and was placed on the practice roster at the end of training camp.
The native of Camas, Wash. attended training camp with the Buffalo Bills in 2025 but didn't make the team's final roster. He finished his collegiate career at the University of California where he played 12 games and made 10 starts at guard. Reimer previously played at Montana State, where he made 30 starts and was named first-team All-Big Sky in 2023.
Kemp (leg) did not practice this week and has been placed on the six-game injured list. He has made nine starts for the Argonauts at right tackle this year.
Alex Teubner will start at weak-side linebacker in place of Cameron Judge. The native of Seaside, Ore. joined the team as a free agent in May following his release from the B.C. Lions. He has dressed for two regular-season games this year in a depth role, making one special teams tackle. This will be his first CFL start.
The six-foot-one, 200-pound defender played collegiately at Boise State University where he made 195 total tackles, two interceptions, 12 pass breakups, three forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries. He was a two-time All-Mountain West honourable mention.
Judge (hip) did not practice this week and has been placed on the one-game injured list. The veteran has made 16 defensive tackles and four special teams tackles over seven games this season.
The Argonauts have also added American defensive lineman Jalen Bell and Canadian linebacker Jalen Rayam to the active roster, and moved American defensive lineman DaMarcus Johnson to the reserve roster.
The Toronto Argonauts (5-5) will visit the Saskatchewan Roughriders (6-4) at Mosaic Stadium on Saturday, August 29 with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EDT. The Argonauts are coming off a 39-20 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, while the Roughriders lost in Vancouver by a score of 30-16.

Wow, what's happening in SSK is crazy. Every week they get weaker.
How on earth do you sign a WR who's never been with your team and play him basically the same week? Bridges already in shows how desperate they are. The problem is, while the SSK system lets you play substandard RECs, they have to be steeped in the system and get all of that timing stuff down with Trevor. SSK is all about timing and quick game. I don't see how Bridges can possibly do this right now. Maybe that's why he's out wide and he'll just be there to get 1-3 deep shots to keep D's honest, and stay out of the inside?
Good on the riders for signing him and unreal he starts first week. Bridges is a very decent reciever I don't know what milanovich is doing in Hamilton ?!?
Quote from: dd on August 29, 2026, 06:52:07 AMGood on the riders for signing him and unreal he starts first week. Bridges is a very decent reciever I don't know what milanovich is doing in Hamilton ?!?
Wheatie is turning into a star for them. And M.Mitchell is better than our 4th or 5th (though he's an IMP). Gittens in theory should be a top-middling NAT. Kenny needs no explanation. K.Smith was lighting up the league the last 2 years, but has been quiet. He started to wake up last game.
If you have no place to start Bridges, then why keep him, besides depth? And isn't he always hurt? HAM definitely has inside baseball on how "recovered" Bridges is. Besides, his numbers were trending down last season -- he was becoming useless in fantasy. And he was their wide guy... which Kenny/Wheatie have locked up. He may lack the ability to play inside.
Interesting that SSK put him outside too... Still reeks of desperation to me.
Wow, TOR RB Hicks has been demoted to PR! Ya, TOR's run game has sucked all season, but was it Hicks' fault? They are rolling with '26DP Smith full-time now. With some DI named "Jones" backing him up. Coxie has been moved behind Ulm (another '26DP) but will be the 25-snap guy. It's a bit of a weird DNA setup though, with Smith & their FB as the DNS? So Coxie will come in for Smith and Jones will be the feature back? Confused.
Herslow back from injury just recently, and is having trouble getting back to normal. Will he have a re-breakout game soon or is he done like dinner? New kid Kahmann has also been quiet after a monster start to the season. And still no Polk.
Really hard to tell who/what TOR is right now. They are capable of winning, but so inconsistent and no identity other than Kelly throws everywhere with wild abandon. SSK will be much more structured, but so wreckt with injury right now. Oladipo at SAM? Good luck with that. If I'm TOR I'm running and passing at SAM all night long.
Go Argos!! Not only win, but beat the tar out of them in the process.
SSK loses, we are tied for 2nd in the west.
I am cheering for the Arblows and feel gross about it. I cannot cheer for the greenies, but would like it to be low scoring so nobody feels good about themselves. :D
Quote from: peg_city on August 29, 2026, 02:42:26 PMSSK loses, we are tied for 2nd in the west.
Let's not get ahead of ourselves. The Riders may lose but the Lions likely beat the Redblacks. We may still drop to 4th due to the fact we've lost to Edmonton, Calgary and BC. Only one win against west division teams.
Essentially we have to beat the Riders and win the season series to move up.
Marshall Ferguson made a comment about no CFL records of an eastern team playing two games in the same season in the same western stadium.
Winnipeg did it in 1987 & 1988.
man Riders are struggling to move the ball...only 7 points in a half of football, I like our odds in the LCD if this is the team we play!!!
Our new improved identity found Bombers should make quick work of Riders ;D

Mosaic on the long weekend is a tough place to play but if we play like we did vs Montreal ya we kill them
Harris was lucky he didn't get Glenn'd on the safety.
Is McFadden brain dead? He just handed riders a touchdown, thinking he's going to block a 10 yard field goal. What an idiot!
Man, the Argos suck.
How is a defender visibly grabbing the jersey of a receiver while the ball is in the air not pass interference..... another brutal reffing job
Does the CFL need a de facto "full weight on the sack" rule? That sack by 2 SSK guys putting their full weight on Kelly seems like a poster child for us getting the NFL rule. Brutal hit. They could have done something other than grab & pancake with about 450 lbs of combined weight.
The full weight rule could help Zach too.
Funny how CFL claims to care about QB health but has less QB protection than NFL.
Anyone questioning keeping Castillo over Lidster needs to take a look at his record so far. It's total butt. He's actually losing games for TOR. It's a coin toss every kick, even closer ones.
Castillo kicks an extra yard back, I've noticed, and for shorter kicks he'll jack the trajectory. Lidster gets blocked because he's kicking too low, and he doesn't take that extra yard.
3Q2:50 SSK cheating again, Rose doing an obvious FM and eye-poke on Mital. Totally on purpose. I haven't seen that kind of away from the play purposefully hurtful FM since Duron Carter was in the league.
What total bags.
Where is the EITS? Clearly obvious non-accidental FM with intent to injure, and he walks away looking for the flag and doing the Duper's Delight that he got away with it.
He'll be looking at a fine this week.
4Q2:04 The TOR challenge of the Johnson ground-trap catch. If that's a catch, then so is Bailey's 2019 GC TD. Command has always called this with the question "did the ball move in the hands, and touch the turf". The ball 100% moved in both hands: the position changed in both, clearly obvious in replay. And clearly it touched the turf.
We saw a similar one earlier this year (and even one earlier in this game), though that one was harder to see. This one had great slow-mo.
So the new precedent, of course without any public memos, is almost anything is a catch. Hand bobbles, hands moving, who cares. Everything is a catch because Johnston wants MORE SHOW.
They robbed Bailey.
Quote from: Jesse on August 30, 2026, 02:03:43 AMMan, the Argos suck.
You have all day left on the clock, you're 2nd and 2, and you dial up a quick out that's fully covered, and Kelly still chucks it instead of possibly rushing the 2Y. Then you hand the ball back on 3rd & 2 when you should be going for it. SSK had all the momentum and the crowd and you put it on your D that was doing nothing at that moment? That was the stupidest coaching of the month.
What does MOS do there? Perkins in on 2nd. Perkins in on 3rd. Get 1. Get 1. Convert. That "CB Radio" HC is the worst in the league.
Quote from: bunker on August 30, 2026, 01:48:15 AMIs McFadden brain dead? He just handed riders a touchdown, thinking he's going to block a 10 yard field goal. What an idiot!
I'm now convinced that SSK has an entire office team working on cheating and skirting the rules. Finding every single little loophole they can use to win. And I'm very jealous because we just "play it straight". If SSK played it straight this game, they would have lost, because they aren't very good right now.
Do you think that offside on the FG try was just some player being coy, or an accident? No. It it researched, studied and then practiced, probably to death. How much head movement by the LS is allowed? How much bobbing up and down by the holder is allowed? What is the battery allowed to vocalize? They've studied it all. Then they have the entire line doing little twitches and movements, every little thing that is possible without getting detected. Every single snap-like motion by everyone that you can get away with.
And braindead opponents just lap it up and say "here ya go, take the game!". Not only is no other team studying the cheatin' like SSK is, but no other team is preparing their guys to not fall for it! Heck, I bet half of them aren't even aware of it. I'm not even sure ours are aware for it. Playing SSK is not "business as usual", it's a massive study session on not falling for all the cheating.
This is a team that wants to win it all, every time, every year. They are willing to do whatever it takes to win. They probably have a whole team of green autists working for free or pilsner or something just coming up with this crap. And it works. And I'm jealous because they're the only team to take advantage of this.
I'm going to blow a gasket if they get us offside (especially a game-winning one) or retaliation URs in either of the next 2 games. And it would be nice if Mafia would put as much time into the cheatin' as SSK does. But we all know they won't. And so SSK wins the close ones when maybe they weren't good, and we will lose all of them.
4Q7:44 It used to be that if you stiff-armed a DB before the ball arrived, and you fully extended your arm so your elbow locked, then that was called OPI. But this season it's not being flagged. They let the REC get away with basically anything, especially if they stiff-arm them a bit earlier in the route.
I don't like it, as it's cheatin' teams like SSK that are taking advantage of all of these paper-only, unenforced, rules.
How was there no PI on the last play of the game where you clearly see Coxie's jersey grabbed and pulled before he caught it?

Not just because of a well timed pancake though.
Maybe you're thinking of the piling on by neuf? That's a totally different thing than the special NFL rule that just protects qbs. Neuf was just being late and stupid and way too obvious about it.

Yes, Luke is wrong. He watches way too much NFL. He pretends to be a CFL guy, but he is not. He's made many mistakes this season because he doesn't know our rules, especially recent changes from the last few years.
Full weight itself has never been flagged in CFL. It has to be late, or head, or something else added in. And the play in question proves it.

All true, but part of the roughing the passer rule also includes language that roughly says, "whatever the refs deems too rough". So like everything else it's wildly inconsistent.

Article 5 — Roughing The Passer
Because the act of passing puts the passer in a particularly vulnerable position to injury, special rules against roughing the passer apply. Once the ball is released, defensive players must avoid all unnecessary contact with the passer. A player shall be penalized for any act of Unnecessary Roughness to the passer, including but not limited to:
Delivering a late blow to the passer after the ball is released,
Contacting the passer in an unnecessary manner, including stuffing him to the ground, violently throwing him to the ground, and landing on him with most of the defender's weight,
Quote from: bunker on August 31, 2026, 04:12:35 PMContacting the passer in an unnecessary manner, including stuffing him to the ground, violently throwing him to the ground, and landing on him with most of the defender's weight,
I stand corrected. That will teach me to post from my phone where I can't check all of my years of rule-book copies.
So then how could this example in the TOR@SSK game go unflagged? Not only was one guy landing with ALL his weight (not just "most"), but a 2nd guy was too. And the refs and EITS just say "meh"?
Not that I'm surprised, as I think I said before, I've never seen the CFL ever flag a RTP for just the weight aspect. It always has to be mixed with something else (head hit, late).
So this "most of the weight" thing is about as much use as a rule as the "tandem block" rule that happens nearly every game now: exists on paper but semi-officially has been memo'd "ignore this rule". So in that sense, I was originally correct: it is de facto not a rule.
Now I'm upset that the league is ignoring yet another rule on the books. Either call it as written, or remove the rule from the book!
