Edmonton Elks without Kenneth Logan Jr. against Argos

The Edmonton Elks will be without one of their top defensive playmakers when they take on the Toronto Argonauts on Saturday.
Strongside linebacker Kenneth Logan Jr. has been placed on the one-game injured list after he was unable to practice this week due to a knee injury. The 25-year-old has amassed 34 defensive tackles, two sacks, an interception, and a forced fumble this season, and was recently named a mid-season CFL all-star by 3DownNation.
The Elks will make two changes to adjust to Logan's absence. Kordell Jackson will bump down into the box to play strong-side linebacker, while rookie Terez Reid will take over as the boundary halfback.
Also missing this week for Edmonton is defensive tackle Tomari Fox, who has been placed on the six-game injured list with an arm problem. The 25-year-old has notched eight defensive tackles and a sack this season.
Gavin Meyer will step into the starting lineup to replace Fox, while Carmine Bastone is set to join the rotation in his CFL debut.
Edmonton has also placed Canadian running back Isaiah Knight on the reserve roster for this game, with rookie Canadian offensive lineman Chris Pashula dressing for added depth up front.

Jake Herslow to make season debut for Toronto Argonauts against Elks

The Toronto Argonauts will have Jake Herslow in the starting lineup for the first time this season when they visit the Edmonton Elks on Saturday afternoon. The team published its official depth chart on Friday morning.
The 28-year-old was sensational last year, recording 59 catches for 756 yards and nine touchdowns over 13 regular-season games.
The six-foot, 185-pound target began this season on the one-game injured list and was subsequently placed on the reserve roster. He will now start at field-side slotback after Makai Polk was moved to the one-game injured list with a foot injury.
Polk has caught 37 passes for 571 yards and six touchdowns this season. The 25-year-old native of Richmond, Calif. is the team's second-lead receiver behind Damonte Coxie.
The rest of Toronto's roster has remained fairly consistent from last week, save for a few depth changes.
Dathan Hickey, a collegiate standout out of Youngstown State, has been promoted from the practice roster to fill a backup role in the secondary. Canadian linebacker Jalen Rayam, who dressed for three games earlier this season, has also been activated from the practice roster.
Ethan John, the team's second-round pick in the 2026 CFL Draft, has been moved to the one-game injured list with an ankle injury. James Neal, a rookie linebacker out of Texas State, has been placed back on the practice roster.

Good news is their OLine looks just as bad as ours.
Rankin is overrated. In his career, he has been tackled for a loss on more than 14% of his offensive touches. Today it is 2 TFL on 8 touches. Yes he is a threat to break a long one but it does not offset the liability that he is at other times.
Toronto's decision to have Edmonton re-punt before the half cost the Argos 5 yards and 10 seconds.
In retrospect retaining BOLO would have been a nice option at #4 or #5, he's quite utilitarian and physical enough to beat out either Nield or Clercius.
I think Clercius had better upside, but that injury has set him back.

I agree with this. He might be the one who got away.

In Winnipeg he was in a system where backups didn't play
In Hamilton he was caught in a numbers game where several receivers shared the reps
I've been impressed by O'Leary-Orange when he does get consistent time on the field. In the right system he could be a solid 500-800 yard receiver

Wow, watch 1Q2:33 carefully, the DPI on EDM for DPIing Coxie. There is no DPI there. The jam, the hand grabbing, the wrestling, and the tackle are all 100% Coxie doing everything. The EDM guy has his hands out of things nearly the whole time (which usually saves you from getting a IC/DPI when you get mugged).
Seriously, watch it very carefully, all 3 angles. It's so egregious that the ref probably couldn't believe it wasn't DPI... like how could a REC manhandle someone like that and think they'd get away with it?
Crazy. Should have challenged -- but it took me more than 20-30s to be certain, so I see why they didn't. Unfair cheating by Coxie, and we need to watch for this in the future. It's the SSK school of "cheat if you can".
I'd like to see a new rule where refs/command can flag O players doing muggings or crap like this, because in essence it's embellishing. Except in this case it's initiated by the embellishing player, making it even MORE offensive and antithetical to good sportsmanship. And if the league doesn't want to address it in-game because it will bog things down, make it a stiff fine later in the week. But do something to address muggings and fakery!

Probably. However, I believe the booth guys when they say Rankin is playing hurt. His production took a dive basically overnight about 1.5 months back. Like flipping a switch. That's not just D's figuring you out.
And I think no matter how little his production he commands 1-3 "spies" on every snap. I noticed when Leake is in D's do different things than when Rankin is in. There's way less open in the flat for Cody with Leake.
With Rankin you really need to stress to your D that everyone runs to him. No one stops, or jogs, or quits. Everyone must run and work together to ensure contain, because normally the first 1-3 guys won't bring him down (when he's healthy).
I think the last couple of weeks will put the nail in the coffin of the "should have kept/started Lidster" people!

We should have kept him on the PR but he might have declined. Not every Canadian is ready for the pros year one.
Rankin was never going to sustain his pace. Whether it was teams game planning for him or wearing down from over use.
Boom and bust describes him perfectly: for all his break away plays, he has the same average as Brady. Not to mention fewer rushing yards in more games.
This is not a negative, it's just the kind of player he is. We obviously need a game breaker added in to our offense as well.
