Title: Official Game Day Thread - Calgary@Winnipeg, July 24, 2026
Post by: ModAdmin on July 23, 2026, 03:08:40 AM
The first thing to consider is that Dru Brown will be the starting QB again this week. And more encouraging news on the injury front as well with Clercius, Woodbey, Novack. Schmekel, Ball, Dixon and Clark at full practice.

Kramdi did not practice and remains "questionable".

The most recent injury report follows...

A crucial game against Calgary with the goal to put more distance between us and them.

Calgary has put up massive amounts of points this season. Only being held under 30 once this season (28 points against us in week 1). But their defence has been as awful as their offence has been unstoppable.

Week 1 was the only classic Brady ball that we've seen this season. 100+ yards on the ground and used as an outlet in the passing game. It allowed us to control the clock a bit and keep VAJ on the sidelines. Are we able to get back to that after virtually ignoring him last week?

Dru has been hyper targeting Ontaria Wilson, but their connection has been hit or miss. Probably catching 50% or less of the targets and leading to some of those interception opportunities last week. Can they get more on the same page even though I think there was only one practice this week again?

VAJ has 17 TDs against 0 interceptions. It's not exactly our strong suit, but can we break his streak?

Depends on which Vernon Adams shows up. Last week against Mtrl for 3/4 he was mediocre

Calgary is due for a win as well, we re due for a loss. We eked out a win vs Hamilton and stunk vs Ottawa and won. Dru nearly threw 3-4 interceptions last week, this week he throws picks.

No Kramdi is going to hurt...

I think the Bombers lose another at home - defence is still a weak point

Kramdi is just a hand issue. I expect him to start.

For ratio reasons and experience, likely Kelly. But I expect Kramdi to play.

Kramdi added to 6 game IR. How long he remains on 6 game IR will be a question but yes he can be removed earlier. The question is whether he has a sprain or hairline fracture.

Jackson added in as the new DI. He appears to have the size and weight of a player to play at SAM in a depth role.

Alford (who we had no answer for) is in for the Stamps

Kelly is starting at safety with Kramdi out.
I know he's been a bit of a punching bag on this forum, but he's played pretty well recently!
I'm hoping he's actually made improvements and it's not just a lucky stretch. We don't have any great options after Kramdi, so hopefully Kelly can make an impact!

Suggesting that we might not have an answer for a player this roster hasn't played against is a wee bit on the worry side, the past doesn't really matter on this

Yes a challenge, do we have an answer, maybe

Career impact game for Kelly he could take the next step but at bare minimum a great chance to lear
Cobb remains, makes sense got some blocking beef coming in

Time for Cobb to step up

We didn't have an answer for Alford in the past - that is the truth...it matters.

Do we have someone we can cover him this season - maybe (I hope so) but the past is a relevant data point.

Redha Kramdi out for Winnipeg Blue Bombers against Calgary
by John Hodge  July 23, 2026

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers will be without veteran defensive back Redha Kramdi when they host the Calgary Stampeders on Friday night. The team released its official depth chart on Thursday morning.

The 29-year-old was unable to practice this week due to a hand injury and has been placed on the six-game injured list. He has made 21 defensive tackles, two forced fumbles, and one interception over six starts at safety this season.

The five-foot-eleven, 198-pound native of Montreal has played 78 regular-season games with the Blue Bomber since he was taken in the second round of the 2021 CFL Draft. He has recorded 158 defensive tackles, 18 special teams tackles, five sacks, three forced fumbles, and one interception with the team.

Kramdi will be replaced at safety by Jake Kelly, who has made nine defensive tackles and two special teams tackles in a depth role this year. Originally selected in the second round of the 2023 CFL Draft out of Bishop's University, Kelly has made 17 defensive tackles, 14 special teams tackles, and one forced fumble over 37 career regular-season games with the Blue Bombers.

Dru Brown will make a third-straight start at quarterback, as Zach Collaros remains on the six-game injured list. The 29-year-old has thrown for 656 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception since being acquired from the Ottawa Redblacks via trade.

Winnipeg also has several players set to return after completing stints on the six-game injured list

Third-year receiver Kevens Clercius (knee), defensive lineman Tanner Schmekel (calf), linebacker Lane Novak (knee), and defensive back Ethan Ball (thigh) will all dress in depth roles at their respective positions. Clercius has previously started at field-side wideout, though he is listed as the backup behind Gavin Cobb.

Matthew Jackson
will also make his regular-season CFL debut in a depth role at strong-side linebacker after being promoted from the practice roster.

The 27-year-old played 11 regular-season games with the Tennessee Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars prior to joining Winnipeg's practice roster late last year. He played collegiately at Eastern Kentucky University, where he recorded 294 total tackles, 27.5 tackles for loss, eight sacks, three forced fumbles, 14 pass breakups, and two interceptions, earning two first-team All-Conference selections.

In corresponding moves, the Blue Bombers have placed receiver Joey Corcoran, defensive lineman Kydran Jenkins, linebacker Charles-Elliot Bouliane, and defensive back Ethan Stuart on the practice roster.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers (4-2) will host the Calgary Stampeders (2-4) at Princess Auto Stadium on Friday, July 24 with kickoff scheduled for 8:30 p.m. EDT. The Stampeders lost to the Montreal Alouettes in a failed comeback bid this past week, while the Blue Bombers defeated the Ottawa Redblacks in overtime.

The weather forecast in Winnipeg calls for a high of 29 degrees and a 60 percent chance of showers. The game will be broadcast on TSN and RDS2 in Canada and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune in on 770 CHQR in Calgary or 680 CJOB in Winnipeg.

Damien Alford to dress for Calgary Stampeders against Winnipeg
by 3Down Staff  July 23, 2026

It didn't take long for Damien Alford to crack the active roster with the Calgary Stampeders, as he'll dress against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Friday night just two days after rejoining the team following an NFL stint. Calgary released its official depth chart on Thursday morning.

The 25-year-old played two regular-season games against the Blue Bombers in 2025 and dominated, making four catches for 101 yards and three touchdowns. He finished the year with 20 receptions for 407 yards and five scores.

The six-foot-five, 224-pound target signed with the New Orleans Saints in January but was waived last month. The receiver told the media on Wednesday there was a chance he could dress this week despite having such a short timeline leading into the game. He was the first overall pick in the 2025 CFL Draft.

Alford will dress in a depth role behind field-side wide receiver Clark Barnes, though slotback Dejon Brissett is listed as a game-time decision. Brissett was limited in practice on Wednesday due to a hamstring injury and was listed as questionable on Calgary's official injury report.

The Stampeders have also made two changes in their secondary, as Jaydon Grant and Ben Labrosse are listed as starters.

Grant missed the team's last three games due to an ankle injury and has returned to his spot at field-side halfback, where he made 10 defensive tackles over three games to start the year. Labrosse, the team's first-round pick in the 2024 CFL Draft, will start at field-side cornerback in place of Adrian Greene, who has been placed on the one-game injured list with an eye injury.

Rookie defensive back Ashton Miller-Melancon has been promoted from the practice roster, while veteran offensive lineman Tomas Jack-Kurdyla has been moved to the reserve roster.

The Calgary Stampeders (2-4) will visit the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (4-2) at Princess Auto Stadium on Friday, July 24 with kickoff scheduled for 8:30 p.m.

They won't do that unless he runs at Holm, best they can do is have Kelly or maybe that Jackson guy tracking him and helping out.

Kramdi to the 6 game, that will hurt. This will be a good test for Kelly who has played well that last 3-4 games. MJ38 added to the roster. 6'1" 210. Not much info on this Jackson.  Nice to see Novak make it back into the line up.

I am one not as worried and also not as focused on what one played did to a different roster.  If he hurts us tomorrow yes its a big factor, otherwise a nothing burger until its served lol

Speaking of data points, guy has 400 yards in the CFL and 80 and 20 yards against a different D. Let's not get ahead of ourselves.  The relevance of that stat lines is highly debatable

I'll put 2 to 1 odds that he doesn't have big day tomorrow

Their air attack likely will

Way "bigger" fish to fry on Cgy than a guy who just got there

Aka

Nobody is in denial as you claim.  Not a fair or accurate statement.  Just two folks on the other side of an argument.  No need to make it personal

Will be a big factor but also will be very green

Game is one in the trenches and how Kelly does will be big a factor imo

Frustrate VA and turn on bad mode and we should be ok

Let him have time to run around like a chicken and get deep balls, might be a long night

Good even matchup but they are going to be HUNGRY

Yup, I agree with Zipp.  3-4 days is not enough time to learn the book and be on the same page and have chem with VAJ.  So many times we've seen a REC come in way too soon and actually cost the team INTs.  They zig when the QB throws to zag, and the DB gets an easy INT.  In fact, I'd plan around that and try to get him in a zone crosser, with 2 guys behind.

Also, one of those games where he pasted us was one of his first games and no one had film on him.  He was starting to get very shut down after that, until he basically became a non-factor.

I bet Major is itching to face this challenge.  Sic Major on him.  And Griffin!

If "Moose" is seemingly rostered too early... could it be because his contract says so?  What if his terms to return to the league is he's rostered every game he's not injured?  That could mean he dresses but won't see a snap.

I hate the 20-30 yd. curl patterns their running as the receiver usually curls in front of 3 or 4 defenders and comes to a complete stop. Run more Sask. slants that produce huge YAC!

Their record and stats are skewed by their 2 close losses to Montreal. Our defense isn't anywhere near as good as Montreals, VAJ will roast us.

He'll put up yards, but they're allowing over 35 points a game and we're playing better than we were in week 1 when we beat them.

The Stamps secondary sucks, half the TD's they gave up to the Als were on broken plays.  Hopefully that hasn't been fixed yet.

Our last 3 games are Toronto, Ottawa and Calgary.
They are the bottom 3 teams in passing yards against and also points per game against.
Dru Brown is playing great, and I'm hoping that he can that can continue against Calgary and beyond.
Calgary also is the most penalized defense in the league at 9.83 penalties per game (95 yards per game). League average is 6.48 penalties per game, and 66.41 penalty yards per game.

Our defense has allowed 156 points this season to mtrl 189. Our defense though frustrating at times isnt the issue as much as the inconsistency of offence.

I'm hoping for an offensive brawl, but with some key players stepping up on D to save the day.

On offense, this is Druski's chance to ball if Calgary's D can still be picked on. I'd like to see the ball spread around and get into Nield and Demski's hands more often. Our rec core (main 4 guys) still looks so good on paper but we haven't been able to capitalize on it fully yet. Would love to see a break out game for them. Brady ball too must also be unleashed.

On D, I want to see some individuals answer the bell. I'd like to see Ceresna and Willie get to VAJ on second and long when it matters most. I want to see post game comments like "Nichols is back!" and have him shut down his assignments. Maybe some heroics from the LBs who have been mostly silent this year. Kyrie had a good game on Sunday - maybe ToJo's turn to get a highlight or two.

I think that Edmonton and Sask are probably in the top tier and us and Calgary are mid-tier. BC has a bad record but they are closer to us in reality. West is wide open and will get more competitive now that we're past the first third of the season where there's rust to be shaken off. How this game goes should be very telling of where we're at.

Tony Jones is second in the league in tackles, he's playing at an all-star level already.

I don't have a problem with his play, I'm talking big play, highlight reel stuff in a clutch situation. Making a huge play when it really matters sorta stuff. Stepping up in situations.

Side note, I don't really think much of tackle stats. It means they're doing their job which is great, but it also means you're getting those opportunities for any positive or negative reason.

Yeah, we've been run on like crazy. Of course Jones has a bunch of tackles. Pick up a fumble recovery once in a while though.

It would be nice to get Dru some help at receiver instead of loading the LBers. Watching the game yesterday a lot of passing between Sask and Edm. We only have two IMP and one Nat receiver you can count on, the other four Nat receivers you can't count on for big plays, maybe blocking? If we happen to loose one IMP during the game we are screwed.
I know most LB are ST players and it helps that MOS was a LB and like to help out Younger but help is needed on the other side of the line.

The D needs help and will benefit from all the LBs in the heat, O is fine imo.

OL play will be a primary factor in our success imo
Dustin is fine.  TJ is fine and gets tackles because is a very good LB.  He played lights out last game.

Brown's starting to look a little more comfy.. but the Broxton injury is scary. first play after guy blows by Wallace and forces Dru to slide up into a huge hit (from a guy Bryant whiffed on).

Calgary's edge rushers might be a problem in the 2nd half if Broxton is out.

Soft coverage AGAIN!!!  That's How you lose games.  Gave up another long 96 yard drive for a TD using prevent defence.

Well we're still in it but giving up a missed FG return TD is a 10 point swing and a big blow.

I'm not sure if we've actually completed a pass for more than 10 yards before YAC?

Demski caught one tha5 was over 10 and so did Cobb.  But we haven't caught a single pass where the receiver wasn't running back towards the LOS (note to Condell, we want them going the other direction)

I can't believe how often Brady is out running a route on the wide side of the field. It's just a wasted spot in the field and allows the opposing team to clog the middle of the field where we actually throw the ball.

Offensive line is really weak this game, they should be providing at least 3 seconds of protection before breaking down, but so many plays aren't getting that. That's leading to excess pressure and broken plays.

Even with tonight, I think Dru is out best option if we're looking for a win.
Zach would've been crushed in this game by the DL.
Elgersma isn't ready. Garbage time, sure but we can't throw him to the wolves yet. Perkins would be fun but I don't think he would lead us to a win...

We aren't as good as the top teams: Edmonton, Regina and Montreal. Calgary is probably better at this point.

8 turnovers IIRC. Only 2 ints on defence this year. Cobb had 1 on that odd lateral after Brown through an int.

None of this is a surprise. We saw this coming in free agency and TC.

Our OL is not good enough even adding Broxton. Bryant is a liability now. We should probably sign D. Allen if Broxton can't play next week or longer.

As mentioned by others, our receivers are generally too small, not great blockers and can't get deep with our OL.

Brown continues to throw low, high and into coverage. It's not all on him due to the above comments but he's not scaring anyone.

I questioned the decision to kick that long FG. At some point that was going to come back and bite us.

Calgary whooped us tonight bad. Score was flattering. All three phases were pretty terrible.

The Calgary secondary flat out schooled our receivers. Dru didn't look great but he was looking at a lot of rock solid coverage all night.

JY's defense looks too complicated for the players and ultimately is just so horribly ineffective. It's not all on him. Moxey looked like he belonged on a high school field tonight on straight go coverage.

We also looked tired, mentally and physically. We're a team that barely beat the winless Redblacks and we look it.

A big step back in every way. 52 points at home given up is as bad as it gets and the funny thing is Calgary should have had 10 more at least.

Kelly was largely good but I'm pretty sure he was the cause of the 2nd quarter post from the slot that went untouched. Looked like he was the only one who could have picked that up and didn't read it at all.

Gatkouth making two plays in a row was excellent though. Ultimately the defense was largely a disaster no matter how you measure it up. This time they have some better excuses though because the other units were even worse.

These are two teams going in opposite directions.....Calgary has lost a lot of close ones but they made a statement today and it's obvious they are a better team than the Bombers.  The Bombers looked tired and if it wasn't for two Winnipeg boys, Brady and Nick, we likely get beat by 30 points.
Too bad because Peg fans are THE best fans in the CFL and deserve a better effort and product than what this management team has cobbled together.    We are consistently being out coached as well....Younger's "bend over to pick up the soap" defence isn't scaring anyone and opposing receivers are wide open too many times!! And on offence....well 4 picks tells the story whereas VAJ had zero picks!!
I see Calgary overtaking us past Labor Day after the Riders beat us in back to back games in the LDC and the Banjo Bowl.
Oh well....we had a pretty good run since 2019 but I believe overall, we're regressing whereas the rest of the league is progressing.   I'm not convinced Zach can turn this ship around any longer even if he's healthy.

Well this game went just as I thought, Calgary was due for a win, we were due for a loss and brown threw multiple interceptions. He's a pick machine. Those thinking he's better than Collaros are delusional. Our O line stunk again to high heavens, hmmmm maybe we need to upgrade everyone on it!! Calgary's front made mince meat out of our O line. Face it, our team isn't very good, we can beat Ottawa, but it will take overtime and luck, and teams who are minus their #1 Qb-BC, and Hamilton May beat us with Ford , you don't win many games throwing 4 interceptions and with brown in there get used to 3-4 a game, that's why he lost his job in lowly Ottawa, and we give away 2 first round picks for that!?!?

I don't know why we go away from the run, regardless of the score. It is no secret, we live and die by the run, our passing attack is brutal/can't score 50 like the Stamps hung on us tonight. Run the ball, win time of possession, limit the opportunities the other teams offense gets with the ball, it ain't complicated. You want to gun sling it, get used to tons of interceptions, pick sixes and losses.

The game tonight went down exactly as i thiught thought it would- brown would throw mega picks and our defense would allow a 50 burger on the board!! Get used to it, that's who we are this year.

Brown under threw his receivers on every pick he threw, this is the same thing he was doing in Ottawa. Our defense looked awful especially on the McAllister long run from scrimmage, where he deked everyone out of their shorts, and the mills TD run, where nobody laid a hand on him and then on the McAllister missed FG return where it looked like everyone had cement shoes on. Demoralizing loss, thank god we have BC next who hopefully won't have Rourke so we should be able to compete with another #2 Qb lead offense.

Hand it to Dru, I watched him change the call at LoS after the waggle-fake.  I told one of my STH seat-mates that we needed to run Brady on a delayed draw if they weren't loading the box -- and they weren't.  Dru noticed it too.

Condell probably had another pick-6 lined up for us...

Uh, I'm pretty sure all those busts and 20Y cushions would not have happened had Kramdi been in directing everyone.  No DB was in the correct place all night.  The only one doing anything of value was Major -- the least paid dude out there.

We've seen our D with our "QB of the D" absent, and it's uuugggllllyyy.  Kelly can go back to being 2nd FS on passing downs, thank you very much.

Quote from: Jesse on July 25, 2026, 03:20:42 AMCan we stop with these comeback routes and hitches? They know exactly what we're doing.

We had to turn everything into a comeback route because every DB was jumping our sit-downs for INTs!!

We can't get separation, we can't run sweet routes, we don't have time for double-moves, and no one dares dial in a go route.  All that's left is run far, come back, run hard back to Dru, and hope you beat the DB there.

I will add that clearly Dru still only has like 50% of the book by now.  But WFC hasn't been good at hitting RECs in stride or putting balls where only we can get to them for years.  We're like the anti-SSK scheme -- everything it helps to be good at, we suck at.

It's really starting to feel a lot like 2013 again.  It's like, how can our guys be SOOO bad.  Not just bad, but SOOO bad.  It doesn't even seem humanly possible.

Quote from: BlueInCgy on July 25, 2026, 03:16:25 AMAmazing how our FA acquisitions are demonstrably worse as Bombers.  Moxey.  White.  Neild.  Broxton.

That's an interesting thought.  Moxey lost it 3 seasons ago, so I'll let that one slide.  Nield did nothing in SSK too, except that miracle (maybe-)catch.  So those 2 are playing to what everyone would expect if they used past performance to predict future results.

Broxton is being used out of position and learning a whole new tradecraft.  He gets a pass.  When he takes over from Stan (which could be in this season!), I'm sure he'll be back to BC form.

So White is probably the biggest disappointment, but it's not his fault.  He's being used 100% wrong.  He's the long-crosser or straight go route type who you throw 45+ yards to.  He's not and never has been the grunt across the middle guy, and that's how we've been using him.  He's going to get injured.

So back to your original point, ya, for 2 guys they are worse here, and in both cases it's because they are used wrong.  In the end, Broxton might eventually "get it" at RT, but White will just end up dead.

Agreed. Condell had a rough game play calling but to be fair he was dealing with the result of an entirely shuffled offensive line for half the game. Roster construction was definitely a part of this loss and that one is on O'Shea.

I don't think the coaches are very good. Last year's coaches were better and the gm ..never hear from him . He sits in his office makes off season moves that don't make sense. Picks up White. He hasn't done much. None of our receivers are very good. Except Demski. Receivers are covered like a book on every play.  Other QBs have it pretty good. Players are so wide open it's not even funny Sask game Edmonton player was 25 yards in the open on one play. Never seen any of our receivers open all game.

I hear you on the receiver frustration. Part of the issue is we've gone with three Canadians there (and really the offensive side of the ball is the entire ratio). We don't use the rules or roster to try and solve for that and so we see a game where we're getting a lot of blanket coverage across the board.

On the flip side of that tradeoff, we just aren't getting any value from JYs defense especially when you consider it's basically an all American crew and it's looking a lot like even the safety needs to be American because no one can play there.

demski and wilson are legit starters - white is on the fence and the rest are fodder.

the oline is the issue, then QB/receivers are tied for second then is play calling.  starts with the trenches and we are very weak without Broxton.

I feel like I want to put play calling way higher up the list. Receivers are never open, we're repeating the same stuff over and over, we're always throwing into crowded parts of the field, running Brady as a wide out constantly instead of using him as a release valve, never getting the run game goin, and when it is going they move away from it.

it goes hand in hand but a lack of talent can't be solved in pro sports by play calling.

the not using BO is puzzling and that was an issue with Hogan too - makes you wonder..

the gaps between the issues are not huge but if your oline is getting steamrolled you are pretty sunk

Teams know where BO will be running and they fill the box to limit him. If our receiving group was more of a concern they couldn't do that. Combine that with the problem on the OL we have some serious problems.

When I heard about the theme I was kinda confused but it was actually fun and oddly worked. I enjoyed it and the present drop looked cool and felt different in a good way. Job well done by the game day team.

That's a theme that could probably grow into something bigger over the years if they stick with it.

One of the reasons are receivers are not open is how small they are. If you watch the Sask game, their big 3 have a much larger catch radius than ours do, due to their height. There were a number of throws by Dru that were "overthrown", but it was partly on Dru, and partly on the receivers not being able to climb the ladder and go up and get the ball. In fact, last night, it felt like 50/50 balls were actually 70/30 balls for the defense, with Stamp's DBs outfighting our small receivers for the ball. There's Daniels of course but he's pretty useless. And what's the deal with lining Brady out wide with an empty backfield, Brady is fairly slow and not a true receiver. I watched a number of times, and the Stamps corner was barely watching Brady's route, and was watching where they could slide over if the ball went to another receiver.

Yeah, I don't buy that. Hitting an open man doesn't depend on the receiver being 6'2". It relies on the offensive scheme pulling coverage away and receivers beating their man or finding soft parts in the zone.

Not the whole story, but a significant part of it. Lemilus, SBaker and Johnson make alot of their catches up high, and having 3-4 inches over the DB makes a difference. The other problem with such small receivers is how poorly they block, particulalry on wide receiver screens.

Until you find a replacement ZC8 and he wants to leave, I think he will be here. I think Neufled has another year in him. He's been pretty solid. Bryant lost a step last season, should have used Bryant money to get a up level Canadian OL.

Gatkuoth has received regular reps since the start of the season, he generally plays quite tentatively but maybe he's beginning to figure it out. Of the import rookies on the D-line I think Fletcher is now looking the most consistent.

Brady tries but spends more time whining than jacking the team up and without that energy we come out flat. Football is a game of intensity and we don't come out intense at all

I hear what you're saying, I just think it's overstating the impact Harris had in terms of being a source of energy though.  He was an impact player, and definitely a source of energy and drive for the team.  I just don't think that is the part that has been missing (the energy for the team, pumping them up).

Strevy was even more that energy guy that got the whole team going, more so than Harris, and we were still losing with him back pumping up the team.  And being behind the bench - believe me, Strevy brought the energy, more than anyone I've ever seen.

TSN camera showed Brady sitting on the bench at the end of the game and he was fuming mad, I've never seen him that upset before.  Unfortunately when a team is failing on multiple fronts there isn't a whole lot a running back can do to change the situation by himself.

Back to the defense, first play of second half, VA hits a wide open philipit who then seeks out nichols then moxey then holm, that's half of our secondary missed tackling him plus the safety is no where in sight. This is unforgivable. Our defensive scheme is bad and our players even worse

No way to know but seems unlikely, he's made for life already with his popularity and visibility, he can reap the benefits of his hard work for the rest of his days if that's what he wants to do.

I think he realizes the Bombers are in a very good situation playing in the only sold out stadium in the league and yet they continually lay eggs at home.  He's never had to play on a losing club before as he came in at the Bombers peak and he's seeing hopes of another GC win fade away with each passing season.  He's said many times he's in an extremely fortunate situation playing for his hometown team and I think he just wants to reverse the course of the downfall.

Sorry but I don't think anyone knows exactly why Brady was angry.
This forum has complained about play calling on both sides of the ball. Brady runs for a 45 yard TD and doesn't touch the ball again until 56 secs left in the game? I'd be missed off as well - doesn't make me selfish if me getting the ball might be the best chance of winning. We've all said that we want bully ball to return well that means getting him the ball more.

That's my opinion.

I'm so impressed by Others like me. Thanks for calling that out in such an unprompted way. What a prediction. I can only speak for myself, but I'm amazed.

There was no prediction made just their opinions (myself and a few others) about a young player added late who needs time.  Past limited success doesn't mean it will happen in the future.  Now next time we see Calgary he will be ready.  Interesting to follow his career, hope he has success.

I'll keep challenging folks on here but I'm also willing to eat bird when wrong. It's a fun game.  Don't try to take the joy out of it.

Quote from: Big Daddy on July 26, 2026, 07:16:24 PMStrevy was even more that energy guy that got the whole team going, more so than Harris, and we were still losing with him back pumping up the team.  And being behind the bench - believe me, Strevy brought the energy, more than anyone I've ever seen.

No, it was AH33 1st, Yoshi 2nd, and Strev 3rd.  Those were the heart of the team.  We had 3 in '19 (crazy!) and that's why we steamrolled the GC.  We had 2 in '21, and that's why we were unstoppable all season.  Then they started departing and we have never recovered.

Quote from: Pigskin on July 26, 2026, 07:28:36 PMI would put Willie into that category. Not only on game day, but also at practice. Willie keeps the energy following.

Willie does help, but he's different.  He's a controlled energy.  The other 3 were just nuts, completely on fire.  Heck, throw Bailey & Biggie in there too.  Those guys knew that morale/energy/hunger was 33% of the game.

And with Dru in, we have an extra problem: he's the least energetic/hungry QB out there.  He's like Franklin.  It's like playing on valium.  I never thought I'd see a QB more chill than Zach, but here we are...

I'm glad to hear Condell is an energetic hyper nut-case -- maybe that can rub off on the guys.  The only problem is he's up in the booth during the game so he can't infect the players.

Oh ya... look who has AH33 and Yoshi right now.  And look who won the cup last year and is the favorite for this year...

Great idea!  Have fun waiting until FA29!  Because that's the next time we get to draft a top OL.

We haven't taken a top one in like 4-5 seasons (Dobson the last?), and we won't for 3 more.  That's 7-8 seasons with zero top OL draft picks!  That is utterly insane.

The only thing I can think of... is Mafia's playing counterculture.  We may have said we don't want OL, we'll buy IMPs instead, and then take top "weird position" NATs in the 2nd round.  And we can probably make it work as so many teams are fixated on OL in R1, and ignore picks in "weird positions" until R3.

Do you ever see Demski sitting and pouting, Pokey Wilson,no, speaking out against what the offense is running, no, they're team guys, they suck it up, and stay positive for their teammates, not Brady, Brady is all about Brady, and I for one am sick of it and his attitude.

Caught Brady at the end of the CJOB Post Game Show in the Audio Vault and he sounded depressed, it's obvious he doesn't like the direction Condell is taking the offence right now and he isn't wrong. Past evidence shows between Zach and Brady they can get an OC fired if he can't figure out how to make the offence hum. Emptying the backfield should never be done when the Bomber QB's are under pressure all game long.

Also caught Strev working with the CJOB crew on the broadcast, don't know if he was working for free as a guest spot but his knowledge, input and enthusiasm was excellent. No doubt he's going to get a permanent CFL broadcast gig by next season, possibly on TSN.  Can't even watch the half-time show anymore, it's gone from serious discussion to a clown show.

I am caught between 2 seemingly contractory truths:
1. Condell is not an idiot, and has tons of experience as an OC.
2. He is frequently splitting Brady out wide, usually with an empty backfield. Brady is slow and does not represent a threat out there. The cornerback virtally ignores him. Last game it contributed an offside by Brady and not much else.

What gives? It may help the QB to read what the defense is doing (man vs zone), but there must be other ways to do this, like having a receiver in motion across the formation before the snap.

There can be a lot of dimensions to seemingly routine coaching decisions that fans can't always see. It's almost like they're trying to explain something to someone.

Noticed Holm defending the left half of the field on Williams side against the Stamps a few times, this seems like a new twist in the coverage as in the past he was always defending on the right alongside Moxey.  Possible that he was in man coverage tracking Philpott by switching off with Nichols, but changes like this seem to be adding to the confusion on the field rather than improving the pass coverage.

Exactly, we had Harris as the ring leader but he had ALOT of help from those you mentioned that have departed and we've never replaced that energy. Harris, Yoshi and Bailey on offense, Biggie and Jefferson on defense, and like you said, it wasn't rah rah energy, it was off the charts-I-am-nuts energy, so we steamrolled teams on that energy and intensity. Now, we have to set an alarm clock to wake everyone up when its the 2nd quarter because they sleep through the 1st quarter!!!

If Brady doesn't like Condell, and he didn't like hogan, then maybe it's a Brady problem, not an OC problem.

Of course, we're just speculating and dreaming up a potential rift... Sure, we're getting hints and it may exist, but we can't really know.

But yes, the reason you ever put Brady wide is if every other time he's wide open and you actually take the shot. Teams didn't bite enough to throw to him, and they didn't bite enough for him to draw big close coverage, therefore it was a complete waste of a receiver spot.

I wouldn't put Brady wide now note than once a game.

And if Brady wants the ball more, stop getting only 2 to 3 yards on the vast majority of your runs.

And let's give Condell a lot more grace and leeway than we're seeing here. It's early days, and he's had a qb change, and he's been handed a weak OL, and subpar RECs.

He's an upgrade from last year, and is creating a lot more open mid zone sits. And he's flashed some of the ideas that made 19 and 21 Hamilton great.

Maybe if the O players stopped playing like butt Condell would look better.  And I'm not saying Condell is without blame, that's for sure, but I think he's doing ok so far, and has upside.

The Jul 27 Younger presser is worth a listen.  He basically spells out that they thought CGY/VAJ would do CGY/VAJ things and try to sling it, and he spells out that they instead morphed into a lot of dink & dunk & run.  And that we couldn't adjust in time.

I said pre-game that every team should know by now that the way you beat WPG is to dink & dunk like SSK.  Our whole D is designed to stop the slingers, and designed to basically always give up the 6-10Y short game.  So why would anyone ever sling against us except in a maybe one-off each quarter once they've lulled us into tightening up on the dink & dunk?

I fear for when we meet max D&D SSK... I have no faith whatsoever that anyone has thought even one moment about how we're going to stop that powerhouse that plays to our weaknesses.  Because if we did have a "Stop The D&D Plan" ready to go, we would have pulled it out vs CGY!!

He also talked about the bust on the RB on a post-go because the RB wasn't schemed for, or at least whoever had the RB didn't perceive the threat.  It's a great scheme by CGY, that they will use to great effect all season, because D's usually scheme SAM for the RB, but SAM is usually the slowest DB.  CGY using a top-speed returner as RB, and taking advantage of the SAM mismatch, will be brutal for D's to adjust to.  Too bad we had to be the very first guinea pig CGY showed it to  >:(  >:(

This is 100% a Brady problem. He says this multiple times every year.

That said, obviously we're not optimizing our game plan lately. Condell is making some head scratching moves that we need to improve on. And a lot of the things he should be doing would seemingly help with the new QB and weaker OL.

Wilson seems to have changed his tune since becoming a commentator on games. He is more respectful of the game and the players. He's pretty enthusiastic. Suitor has been out of the game for at least 30 years, he breaks down plays so even Grandma can understand what he's talking about, which was the style in his day.  Unfortunately Grandma passed away over 20 years ago and isn't tuning in anymore.

Each and evert person on the TSN broadcasts has their own personality, some like them, some don't, but overall, they bring a very authentic, very unpolished actually, and non-robotic broadcast, unlike the NFL, where every announcer sounds the same. TSN has brought on some new blood recently ie Dustin, Marshall, Luke and its their sincerity and uniqueness that I actually like, it sounds very 'Canadian' to me, even Mr. Suitor, and Mr. Monotone Ford.
