He's terrible we need to cut the he cord and move on. He can't run his arm is terrible. We're lucky Mitchell went down. I hope he is ok and comes back he is a class act. He would of shred our defense eventually. We need our DB' s to play WAY better, Williams had a good game but Kramdi can't tackle and Holm was out of position allot. Nichols can't cover anymore IMO. Our D line lacks pressure, I know there are new personnel there but this was what it was like last year. Look what Farjardo did to us last week. We need to get better or we will fall in the abyss the Elks were in..

SHUT UP
A message to Zach:
As Bomber fans, we love you, and you will always be a Blue Bomber. However, it's time to call it quits. Concussions are serious business, and we don't want you to get CTE. You are a hero for leading us to 2 Grey Cups, and wonderful times that will go down as some of the best in franchise history.
However, it's time to call it a day. Take care of yourself.
I have no problem with Zach continuing to play, even in '27. Every time he takes these whacks he's pulled for "precaution" only. No one is diagnosing him with concussion. Don't think he's had one they could discern since when he wore green. Yes, he almost certainly is getting mini ones. But do those matter? Who knows. Doesn't matter if he doesn't care.
We do have one problem though... Elgersma ran our short game O waaay better than Zach did/does. Even the lack of a deep threat wasn't an impediment to Elgersma finding targets. He didn't ignore Cobb wide out, like Zach does. Elgersma had a bit more zip on the short pass. He was nearly perfect in catching RECs in stride, even on tricky lateral-ish balls.
But yes, HAM was completely demoralized after BLM died on field. So take Elgersma with a grain of salt after that.
What Zach brings is the superb mid and decent deep game. Elgersma may not have that -- at least not yet. I think Zach could be awesome again if we abandon the short game and do like a 2016-2017 CGY where every pass is mid/deep. It would also force the run game wide open. Zach is better when he has the wide field and wider-spaced D's to work with, and the lack of ball zip won't mean an INT -- as long as he throws soon enough the REC isn't more than 50Y away.
You can't be a starting quarterback and get pulled for precaution or injury every time someone touches your upper back.
Whatever his neck injury, it's not going away.
He deserves a hero's send off and to be celebrated as one of the best Blue Bombers in history, but it's time, both from a play on the field perspective and a practical one.

Yes concussions matter... even 'mini' ones. The brain is being damaged whether it's a serious or minor one.
While Elgersma may have been completing those short passes, they were ineffective. The only time we successfully moved the ball was the last drive when he handed off to Brady the entire time. Not sure if it was the OC playing it safe or that Elgersma can't throw and hit the deep ball but we won't win any games with that game plan of short passes.
Zach are is not terrible, fake news. You evaluate him and see how he can bounce back from this. You give him time. Kramdi is a good ball player who isn't playing his natural position. Holm is fine. Nichols is near the end but will still hang on there. Our DL gets pressure, Willie looked good and Jake is one of the best. Austin your takes here are a little harsh on the negative here and have a tone of panic where there doesn't need to be one imo.

Zach has proven his ability to have a good short game in his career. Yes his mad his name throwing med/long balls on a dime but saying that Taylor's short game > Zach's after one reg. Season game is a huge stretch. You have been cooking a narrative that we need to focus on the short game and a few others have suggested the same. Your new claim here is simply tacking on to that narrative imo. A young QB is well served to develop slow and throw short before building confidence and to maximize ball security. That said without the deep ball our O won't work. Bombs and Bbb will set you free. Dink and dunk and we are sunk.
Zach wasn't pulled for precautionary reasons. He was pulled for concussion reasons, and no, it isn't a mini concussion. I'll be shocked if he plays next week.

If that is true he would have been out of uniform immediately. I think it was precaution. They let him stay on the sidelines with his helmet, no way they do that if he is concussed.
Zach would never leave a game in progress if there was any option to stay. Keeping his helmet on both sends mixed signals to the other team and protects him.
He was on the sidelines with ball cap on through the rest of the game.
BLM has probably seen his last CFL snap, involuntarily.
With Dru back, might ZC8 decide to voluntarily preserve his brain now?
I think our QB room with or without ZC8 gives us an equal chance of a successful season, and without ZC8, gives us a better chance next season with a year of the new guard getting live fire action.
Zach's last peak season was 2023 and by the end of it he was beat up and pretty ineffective in the playoffs.
2024 and 2025 weren't good enough and this year is shaping up to be more of the same. Just look at the stat cliff.
Great player. But it's time. We've got the horses now to make the switch, unlike last year.

Going back to last year, if these small hits are taking you out of the game - whether for concussion or precautioning against it, I think it's impossible for a team to depend on you as a starting QB. It happened several times last year and now again.
Elgersma was incredibly ineffective though. Not sure what you were seeing out there. Shortened play book obviously, but he was unable to move down the field 4 yards at a time.

Elgersma was far better than Streveler was in winning the game. And, unlike Streveler, he's a rookie with nothing but improvement ahead of him. Condell will open up the playbook as time goes on, he has a rocket of an arm, baby steps in building up the confidence to use it.

If you're going to make that statement you've got to hold Collaros to the same standard (I would argue it should be a much higher standard, but whatever).
Collaros - 5 for 7 for 41 yards, 1 INT
Elgersma 11 for 15 for 86 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT
He also looked better than Streveler last year, and Dolegala and Ford. Context matters: first snaps in the CFL in month 2. His floor appears to be year 4 development for the backups he went up against. More reps to find out more.

I don't think I'm holding them to different standards. I think the coaches are. He was only able to attempt passes at or behind the line of scrimmage. He's never played at a pro level. He needs a year as the back-up. I mean, if you take away his hand off TD that was counted as a pass, he was throwing for an average of 3.9 yards per attempt.
Nothing against Elgersma, but we're not winning a game playing like that over 4 quarters (unless the opposing QB snaps his leg off). If we were stuck in this shortened game plan, would have much rather they had Druski in the line-up.
Hello Jets for life you SHUt UP he has been terrible for years now especially in grey cups 22,23, 24.
He is damaged goods we were lucky what we got out of him for the time we did.
The hit was 100 MPH and Zach didn't see it coming. The helmet is so he can hear the plays being called.

Elgersma played to the situation which is encouraging, he took baby steps instead of big leaps because that's what the OC told him to do and he obeyed command, one pick-six and the game is out of reach. Of course if BLM had stayed healthy they lose, but they were going to lose anyways even if Zach had stayed in the game.

Hasn't been terrible. A few bad games in the big show agree. We were not lucky with him, we benefited from his amazing skills at QB. That's not luck, it was based on a lifetime of dedication to his craft.
Zach will battle back. Pride and money keep him playing. Big Dru Brown fan but I would run with Zach when healthy and pass the torch when he can't do it anymore. I also worry about his health after football. Tough situation but I can see him coming back from this.
I think it would take Brown a couple weeks to get rolling.

I don't share you optimism, for about the 10th time in the last couple of years I saw Zach take the field play lackadaisically and put the team behind the eight ball, he was only half way there but headed in that direction when he got knocked out. The only fire left comes out when he is desperately trying to mount a comeback after squandering the even footing the start of a game provides each team. That's also what he did in the ESF last season, by not being effective or productive early in the game he put the team in a hole they could not climb out of.
Contrast that with Rourke who came out flying against the Elks knowing his team had to win the game, you could see he was prepared to do whatever it took to win the game and break the back of their losing streak.

I don't know how many more hits like that Collaros can take. Concussions are cumulative, and therefore detrimental to his craft, his health, and his quality of life. This makes for a precarious situation for him, and by extension, his family and the team. I worry about his reliability as a starter about as much as his durability as a pro athlete at his age, the latter of which is exacerbated by his history of concussions.
His career renaissance from 2021 through 2023 (and maybe stretches of 2024) was nothing short of incredible. I think it's fair to say that time has passed, though. It's been a noticeable decline going back to at least last season.
I'm not sure what the play is here, but it's probably time to take a hard look at the succession plan.

Hope so. I'm way more optimistic about a Brown, Elgersma and Perkins lineup honestly.
They can throw 3500 yards and be 1:1 TD to INT ratio which is about where Zach has been the last two seasons with way more upside and an easier run game install.
I think, if Zach is on the IR, we see Elgersma start. I wouldn't be surprised if Dru is second on the DC, and comes in if Taylor really struggles.
But I would love to see what Perkins could do, though. Its not like he doesn't have a pedigree, UFL MVP is nothing to sneeze at. He, no doubt, came here to take it to the next level in the CFL, and maybe get another NFL look. He's not getting that chance at 4 on the DC on a .500 team.
Could the DC be Taylor, Bryce and Dru if Zach is on the IR?
The Bombers best chance to win now is with Collaros. I didn't hear anybody complaining about Collaros when he passed for 400 yards just a few weeks ago.Collaros does not have the mobility he once did however if you give him time he can still be a very effective Qb.

Yeah, verdict seems to be in on Perkins, very good short yardage option, but bottom of the depth chart for actually running an offense. Not the worst position to be in, Tommy Stevens has made a nice career out of it.
Before talking about replacing Zac why don't you talk about the O line. Especially Bryant at 40, Zac is getting hit from the blind side and the opposition defense are a lot faster now. Bryant was getting beat last year and MOS didn't replace him. No QB will look good behind this line. That is on MOS and Walters, bringing or keeping the wrong guys.
Hope Collaros is ok and if so, he plays, if not, we start Brown, he has the most CFL experience. Elgersma didn't look good yesterday at all, aside from the shuffle pass/TD, he was non eventful. Still young, still upside, but go with experience and put Brown in if ZC8 can't go.

I lobbied for this in the off-season. O'Shea is a great coach but he has a habit of letting people stay longer than they should. No one should be surprised that a 40-year-old tackle is struggling some.
I rewatched the hit on Zac, I really dont get how hes injured on that play. It wasn't a hard hit, and if that causes a inury or reinjury then Zac is too fragile to be on the field. Torontos chatfield has crushed several qbs this year with much harder hits (including on 40 yr old Harris) and they got up.

It was a hit by definition but pretty innocuous and something that happens many times a season. Don't want to speculate but it's obviously something they're pretty worried about if that's all it takes to knock him out.
Just put him on the 6 game and see what we can develop over the season. The sooner we start the development process the sooner we can start to win again.
Somone in GDT said maybe Broxton hit Zach with his foot. Doing a deep dive again on this, with the 2 replay angles we get, I noticed a couple of new things:
1. Broxton's foot maybe brushes Zach's helmet, probably not doing much;
2. Zach fell on his throwing arm, like when Nichols got Lemonated, but this time the D guy doesn't commit any body weight follow-through;
2. Backpedaling Broxton's left foot goes on top of Zach's throwing arm, and spends a long time there, with Broxton still pushing a DL away probably putting weight on it. That's gotta hurt, if the cleats are deep. Might irritate the muscle.
I can confirm Zach's head/helmet never hits the turf. It may get secondary contact with HAM D's helmet, but it wasn't the first point of impact.
His head snap was partially rotational, though, and those are usually worse than single-motion ones.
Post-hit, once Broxton got off his arm, Zach only seemed concerned with his head. Doing the "birdies flying around my head" routine with the hands going to the eyes. I see no indication of being unconscious. I think his eyes on the sidelines show that he was still woozy. All of this is 100% normal for Zach, as it follows this pattern every single time.
My money is on the normal Zach concussion precaution. Second to that would be his ol' neck crick. Tangentially would be throwing arm damage, whether from the fall or Broxton's cleat.

It's literally the exact same thing we've seen 5-10 times over ~4 seasons. You shouldn't be surprised. Virtually any hit on Zach where he's thrown to the turf and he's pulled. Does he absolutely need it? Probably not. But that's what Mafia & Zach have decided on.

The difference is no one cares about T.Harris (except his wife) and T.Harris & SSK only care about winning at the expense of everything else. We & Zach could be the same way, but we're not. You can argue about who's right.
T.Harris 100% got concussed last season and was walking around like Cornish in his last few games, and no one cared, and everyone defended it. WFC simply doesn't work that way.
Does it cost us games? Absolutely.

Broxton
finally looked
much better on run block. We were running very complex twists and crossovers, getting very creative, on all of those late-4th runs. Broxton was getting to his place, and stuffing guys (sometimes 2), properly. This may be the first time he's done this successfully.
It may simply be a matter of time of learning how to be a Yoshi rather than a Stan. The fact he vastly improved provides hope.

Zach's murder is not on Stan, but on Brady/Daniels. So technically, that's not even on the OL as a unit, it's on the extended blocking team.
My grading of the players shows Stan having: 0.5 good plays (an assist on run block), and 0 bad plays. That's pretty good for a LT, whose main job is to just stop DEs.
Quote from: Tecno on July 07, 2026, 05:52:19 AMSomone in GDT said maybe Broxton hit Zach with his foot. Doing a deep dive again on this, with the 2 replay angles we get, I noticed a couple of new things:
1. Broxton's foot maybe brushes Zach's helmet, probably not doing much;
2. Zach fell on his throwing arm, like when Nichols got Lemonated, but this time the D guy doesn't commit any body weight follow-through;
You could hear and see Zach mouth "what happened?" after being picked up by his teammates, it's probably understood by everyone on the team that kind of hit is going to knock him out of the game. I think Zach accepts it as well knowing it's for his own protection.
Quote from: theaardvark on July 06, 2026, 05:20:15 PMCould the DC be Taylor, Bryce and Dru if Zach is on the IR?
I too could see that if Zach is out. I too wouldn't mind seeing Perkins possibly play. Not as a platoon, but maybe if Elgersma has stunk it up by halftime you switch to Perkins.
It's not like Elgersma looked
that much better than Perkins in PS. Mafia won't rush Dru in too much sooner than their plan was all along. The problem is we don't don't what the plan was/is. If Dru was set to be #2 by week 7, then we might move him up to week 6. But if the plan was week 12 or 21... no way he's #2 in week 6. Nope, we'd roll with our preset plan, and Dru dresses as a "just for show" #3.
Quote from: Throw Long Bannatyne on July 06, 2026, 04:32:06 PMI don't share you optimism, for about the 10th time in the last couple of years I saw Zach take the field play lackadaisically and put the team behind the eight ball, he was only half way there but headed in that direction when he got knocked out.
"lackadaisically" surely isn't the best word here. Though I think I get what you're saying. Yes, he/we often get a bad start. Heck, look at the EDM game, get the ball and go 2 & out! That's so common for us. It's horrible.
But did Condell put Zach in a good position to start this last game? How many years have I been screaming "our short game sucks!"... and Condell dials up an "everyone curls" scheme? The play that has lost us GCs? Zach can't execute that! He hasn't since maybe '21. Bad teams will disrupt that pass, and good teams will INT it. So why are we running it? That's just stupid.
Remember '18 and '19 when Lapo would start games with Nichols chucking a bomb? Where did that go? Why not something to play on the whole world thinking it's a Brady run for play #1? A flea-flicker, after handoff to Brady, to Tim with jumbo protection would be perfect.
Unlike Mace and T.Harris, and Dinwiddie with Arbuckle, and Milanovitch with Bo, we seem to be incapable of admitting Zach's shortcomings and shifting schemes to his strengths. We seem to be incapable of identifying his lack of zip, extra mini-pumps, and lack of looking off.
It's as if the whole organization thinks an everyone-curls route will be 100% for Zach, when it's actually roughly 25%. Am I the only one who sees this?
Quote from: Austin85 on July 06, 2026, 04:04:37 PMHello Jets for life you SHUt UP he has been terrible for years now especially in grey cups 22,23, 24.
Zach almost won '22 (would have if we didn't short-route on 2nd down), almost won '23 (also a short route failure, and a sad D breakdown on 3rd down). Don't pin those only on Zach. We shouldn't have called conservative short routes on our ahead-now-just-kill-the-clock drives. (See also: my BE BOLD thread from around that time.)
'24 we'll never know because of severed thumb, but it's not like Kenny & the gang were helping out, putting their feet OOB by a mm. It's like nobody wanted to win that day.
Funny, but you aren't complaining Zach
got us to those 3 cups.
Quote from: Jesse on July 06, 2026, 03:45:45 PMGoing back to last year, if these small hits are taking you out of the game - whether for concussion or precautioning against it, I think it's impossible for a team to depend on you as a starting QB. It happened several times last year and now again.
And yet here we are, 3+ years of the same thing. And it still kind of works out for us. The key is having the protection not blow a free blind pass rush like that.
Quote from: Jesse on July 06, 2026, 03:45:45 PMElgersma was incredibly ineffective though. Not sure what you were seeing out there. Shortened play book obviously, but he was unable to move down the field 4 yards at a time.
He was totally effective in doing what we asked and allowed. You think he had go route options Mafia was giving him but he just ignored? Any deeper route was just to clear the shorter ones -- except that one masterful "keep them honest" shot.
I'm pretty sure he was way more accurate in terms of completions than Ford & Dolegala. Might have had more than both of those never-weres combined. And those guys have like a combined 10 years in the league!! He was way cooler than Ford. He calmly went through his progressions and took what the D was giving him.
If you want to say he was ineffective, then I implore you to look at Condell instead. And even Condell was effective because we gambled we could win a game of field position and score enough and hold HAM to less.
And they were right.
Quote from: theaardvark on July 06, 2026, 03:28:41 PMZach would never leave a game in progress if there was any option to stay. Keeping his helmet on both sends mixed signals to the other team and protects him.
Nope, not when it's the ol' woozy feeling. Zach & Mafia have an understanding that any wooze-inducing hit and he's coming out. MAYBE in a GC he'll stay in. Maybe. Zach is clearly over his "I'll play through anything" Alexander point in life. He wants to win, but he wants to not be drooling in a wheelchair more.
Quote from: Blueforlife on July 06, 2026, 02:08:34 PMYes his mad his name throwing med/long balls on a dime but saying that Taylor's short game > Zach's after one reg. Season game is a huge stretch. You have been cooking a narrative that we need to focus on the short game and a few others have suggested the same. Your new claim here is simply tacking on to that narrative imo.
Guilty on all counts. Astute read of the situation.
It's driven by how the best teams are winning right now, and the known limitations of the older QBs. Especially SSK. Study SSK. And now add in our lack of success by trying to have Zach play full-field like he's BLM or 2019 Zach. Double down by seeing our middling REC corps...
Creating & mastering a short SSK-style game isn't the only possible path to success, but it certainly is an avenue to explore. If we could only create half the short game success of SSK, and add in Zach's far better mid/deep game, we'd be much better than SSK and winning cups!!
But if we can't or won't help Zach improve in the short game, we should completely dump it. Ixnay. Bye. It's brought nothing but loss and misery every time we've relied on it. What other QB gets INT'd on a short curl to the nearest slot on the first play?
As for Elgersma, he has a bit more zip, a faster wind, and that's the entire difference between an INT and a completion with YAC. Will he fare worse now that teams have film? Sure. Will he have to be given a bit more mid passes to keep D's honest. Yes. But I'm telling you right now that if Zach was in and we played that exact same short-only scheme then we lose that game... because our short game has been hot garbage with Zach for many seasons. This isn't even up for debate.

I looked again and you're right, he seems to mouth "what happened". I don't hear it though, not on the live shot anyway.
However, instead of being like "I was knocked out and don't remember anything 2 seconds before the hit", he could just be (in effect) asking "I think I lost the ball, did we get it back"?
I'm positive he was never knocked out because immediately after putting his hands to his eyes he holds his index fingers up like he's saying "I'm ok" or "I need 1 minute".
We are rudderless. Zac can't handle the contact. Yes, a bump even sets his brain in motion. And that's within his skull. For his safety, he must retire.
I only guess that's why the team jumped at getting Brown back. He can escape the pressure, buy time, and at points of his young career was able to find secondary receivers.
Brady looked awesome. The boys can live with a run based attack, with Brown converting second and short. Do it.

We are not rudderless, our captain took a cannon ball in the blind side but might recover and take the control back. In the meantime our 2nd in command is back from training overseas.
There's no doubt Collaros' best days are behind him, but Brown is more than capable and Elgersma has a ton of potential.
I think it's an exaggeration to imply the team is rudderless.

We was probably wondering what happened to the blocking scheme that got him hit. Zach is all football all the time - that is how a pro QB thinks and operates, he is already trying to figure out what happened on that particular play that saw it fail so miserably.

I think he means when Zach gets pulled every other game rudderless is yes a slight exaggeration but it certainly can disrupt continuity and flow of QBs are changing constantly.
Short week, very short one practice. I don't see Zach recovered in time but I could be wrong. Can we activate Brown on one practice....not ideal, So does TE start?
Zach got us over our drought, and took us to five GC's he has bled enough Blue and gold to deserve as someone before said a heroes salute, but.......objectively his play fell off last year, he has looked possibly better this year, but the last two years he has missed a ton of time, perhaps as hard as it is to say he needs to be looking at calling it, and as a staff perhaps we need to be thinking about getting Brown up to speed and transitioning now?
We are naturally watching the inevitable transition occur before our eyes and everybody should be OK with it. Even the biggest Collaros fanboi (I consider myself one) has to admit that he was one of the best QBs to ever wear the jersey but he's in his late 30s and has a long head and neck injury history. He was never going to play like it's 2021 forever and for about a year we were wondering what a transition would look like.
Not long ago we had Streveler and Wilson behind him and now we have Elgersma, Brown and Perkins. I feel really good about that and if Zach misses lots of time this year and this is actually it for him, I'm still really excited to see what these guys can do and get us back to the big game soon I hope.
With all that said, a healthy Zach can still play at a high level. He still has an arm (accuracy is down significantly, though) and can still scramble (speed and elusiveness is down significantly too) and so I expect that when he's fully available, he gets a chance to go out on a high note and take his long year of preparation to its logical conclusion. Until he's fully available though, I want to give him as much time in a ballcap as possible and let the next crop duke it out and get us excited for the future
I just re-watched the game on PVR. Collaros was blindsided obviously. I don't think he was injured per se but the team is very cautious with his concussion history.
When the daily IR report comes out, I don't think he'll be listed as a DNP on a short week, but we'll see.
The injury to BLM was horrible. His surgery was successful but that may be a career ending situation with his age and possible extended recovery time.
Heck of a way to finish a possible season and / or career.
Could the TiCats be looking to trade for Arbuckle? I can't think of another QB that MIGHT be available but even he may not be available.

not sure why TO would trade their backup to a rival in their Division. Would need to be a pretty sweet deal for the argos to consider IMO.
IMO Argos are as likely to trade Arbuckle as we are to trade Dru Brown. Ideally you want a viable veteran #2 in the CFL given how common QB injuries are.
Plus Zipp makes a good point about divisional rivals.

It's not likely but it would be for the same reason as why the Redblacks traded Dru Brown. Obviously he'd like to be a starter. Whether he's any sort of distraction I don't know. What the upside of their # 3 QB comes into play. He spent all of 2025 on their roster, so they must like him to some degree.
For the Argos it sheds some SMS. Kelly is playing well and it could reap them some very good draft picks.
So purely speculation, but the TiCats are not going anywhere with their current back ups. For that matter, the Argos could swap Ford for Arbuckle to at least give them a veteran with some experience. It's a risk assessment about whether Kelly gets any sort of serious injury versus all the other thoughts.

Does Milanovich hate Arbuckle? Does he want him out of town? Does he have a different QB in mind for #2? Pretty sure that's how Dru got traded.
The Ticats should look at every back up in the league. I don't think many of them will be worse than the two they have on their roster. The combo of Dolo and Ford was so bad.

I carry deep seeded scars from a time so long ago I can't remember the years, when the Bombers regularly took the field on perfect summer days in front of an expectant Wpg. crowd only to start the game flatter than a 50 cent pancake, ensuring a 20 pt. deficit was well entrenched by half time. The 2nd half often collapsed into a bleary mess of drunkenness and bitter tears.
This ugly trend returned 3 seasons ago for no obvious reason, when a powerful version of the team led by Zach came out flatty-flat-flat against a Lions team led by Vernon Adams in front of a boisterous sold out crowd at IGF and proceeded to piss the rest of the day away. I remember that one well, it was the first time a hint of bad vibes returned to the field after the GC runs. Sadly in the last few years falling behind early seems to have become a regular curse they are most often unable to overcome.
I would trade Brown to the TiCats, for Lawlor.
I think Tre Ford given the starting role can pilot that team to a respectable record. He's not a bad QB.

It would be a bad idea for a multitude of reasons. We need Brown to be the possible replacement for Collaros due to injury or retirement in 2027. Whether he can be that QB is a TBD but for 2026 I'd say he is that player.
Lawler is a very expensive SMS hit and we only roster 2 import receivers. Domino impact on the roster and ratio aspects.

Lawler doesn't even lead his own team in receiving. Probably won't considering what he has throwing to him, it could be that Edmonton year all over again.
Lawler is actually 23rd in the league at the moment. First in ego though. Not enough said about Tyson Philpot. If he continues his pace he would be around 2500 yards for the season. Two Sask players in spots 2 and 3.
I wouldn't trade Brown for anyone or anything at this point (a better QB yes maybe but that's a pipe dream). I would throw some money at him to keep him around on a team friendly deal (2yr).
I think he will be an incredible asset for this ball club for years to come, learning from a great teacher. He is at least average with upside. Needs to stay healthy.

Uh... then you haven't seen all of his pressers and mid/post-game interviews. He's come right out and said he's the best, and deserves the best. And he has that stance and snoot look every time he's on camera -- looking down at everyone.
But whatever, as we've been hearing a lot on TSN lately, REC is an ego position. If they don't think they are the best they probably aren't. Of course, that doesn't mean they have to take it to Kenny levels!
I'd be more OK with Kenny being so snooty if he wasn't so darn low IQ. Probably thinks he's a genius! He's not as good as he used to be. The veneer started to rub off when he put that foot OOB on 2nd down in the '24 GC...

Masoli retired. Guy was beat to a pulp.
Many sportsmen "retire" and come back PDQ. Didn't MBT "retire" like twice? Michael Schumaker? Countless USA basketball & football stars...
If Masoli kept working out rather than getting a big beer gut, I have no doubt he can pick up where he left off. Now, whether he should do it... ya, probably not.
However, if there was any team that would be perfect for "don't hit me" Masoli, it could be HAM with their superb pass-pro and unlimited REC targets! I bet HAM already called him up and he said "na brah, I'm really done done".
Derek Taylor says that since he's been here anytime that Zach didn't get the full practice, he also didn't start. He says he wants Dru Brown but not sure what they will do. It could be either Brown or Elgersma since no one saw who took the starting reps in the closed practice.
Collaros only played 13 games in 2025. One game was due to a suspension issue. Another game IIRC was a game where we played mostly back up players?
However he seemed to miss 1/2 of several games due to upper body injury / concussion protocol. Three I think.
My point is that he already missed 1/2 of game 4 and now is sitting out game 5. I'm not a doctor but that hit didn't appear to be one that should knock a player out of a game other than precautionary.
The team may be looking at his best interests but IMO we're reaching a tipping point. How much longer or how often can we continue down this road?
It's been discussed that if a player can't practice, why not just put him on the 6 game IR? It's not clear if or when he can practice again. If this is another concussion protocol, should he be allowed to return to practice? When is enough, enough with risk to his future health?
Hopefully Brown plays well. It's good to have a good backup which protects us from these situations. Does Collaros return as the starter regardless of how Brown plays, when he returns to practice?
The end may be nearer than we think or hope.

Regularly missing games is one reason he should be paid significantly less than full marquee salary, good chance this trend continues this season with Zach missing another 3-4 partial games. One solid hit and he's taken out of the game, not difficult for hungry D-linemen to pick up on that key to victory.

Yes. Aside from the lack of continuity for the team, his personal well being is a concern. Good point about the SMS level.
The more time Collaros misses, the more I'm convinced this is his last season. Or at least it should be.
It made sense to re-sign Zach for 2026 because we did not have much in the way of an alternative (although he was overpaid). Now we do, and it will be interesting to see how Brown does. I still remember him coming in after Zach got injured against Edmonton, and leading us to a comeback victory while looking like a much better QB than Zach. Lots of water under the bridge since then, with both QBs older (although that's only a problem with Zach) and with significant injuries. Not sure how Drew will do, he probably only has part of the playbook to work with and limited familiarity with his receivers, but interesting to see how it goes. Should be a beautiful night tomorrow weather wise. Suspect the Argos will put up too many points on the board for us to keep up, but you never know.

He let Thomas go full Rudy all last year so no matter how Collaros does, he's not going to be sat for play.

Dru Brown imo will never reach that level, tough to call that now but he isn't close to Zach's prime imo. And I love and trust Dru. But Zach's ability to put touch on a deep ball is something we might not see for a decade. Not to mention his ability to extend with younger legs.

Agree and I didn't know you could get a concussion from a hit like that. It didn't look like his head was involved at all. Looked more like a blow to his upper arm/shoulder. Maybe it was like a whiplash-thing? Not sure, but I'm fairly concerned if a hit like that costs a QB 2 games. Yikes! Durability question there. He wasn't doing that as much 2nd half

But why would right now be any different vs 1 year ago? If we didn't decide to ditch him then, why now? Nothing is different. If anything, he's getting hurt less so far vs 2025. The OL pass-pro is better this season by quite a large amount. It should continue to be so.
So if they didn't pull that lever then, they won't do so now. Unless it gets worse.
One could argue we have his replacement in house now, whereas we didn't have that option in '25. That's if you think Dru is the future top-3 level QB. I won't comment, other than to say "unlikely". If Mafia thinks Dru will take us to 5 GCs in the next 6 years, then ya, they could yank Zach. If not, they won't.
My take on the "tapped his head booboo = sits out the next game" thing is it's a courtesy to Zach, makes the doctors happy, and makes the lawyers happy. If QBs ever start suing clubs, showing how you waited that extra week every single time even when he was cleared to play, and every other team would have just thrust him back in, will go a long way to prove you weren't reckless with CTE. So even if it's not doing anything in reality, it provides good optics and warm fuzzies.

It's both, I think. There was a year a few years back I would get this recurring neck crick. It's a real eeeotch. Really ruins your life, but comes and goes for no reason (then disappears for no reason). If I was taking hits like Zach during that time it would never heal. Heck, I was almost around the same age as Zach now! That magic 40 sure starts the body breaking down process.

If you freeze the frames and step ahead when the hit first comes in you can see what happens to Zach's head is it snaps around rotationally along the horizontal axis, like a spinning top. That's one of the worst motions for concussion-like injuries.
His brain in skull acts like an ice cube floating in a cup. Rotate the cup along the circle center and the ice cube stays in place. His brain stayed in place, his skull moved. That really messes with the connectors between brain & rest of body.
It's way "better" to get a straight head-on hit where your brain bounces back & forth once or twice. Side loads are worse than that, but still better than rotation.
The funny thing is, having a pillow at the back of Zach's head would normally save him from 90% of his usual damage (which is most often caused by hitting the turf), but this time neither a pillow nor guardian cap would have helped in the slightest.
On the bright side, he almost never goes unconscious. It's only these mini-concussions. That's why I always say he's immune to the big one.

Give me a hit of that hopium!! It's just as likely Dru throws 4 balls to guys in blue and blue. Could go either way.
Dru better believe though that he's running out of chances to prove he's worthy of #1...
OTT@EDM 3Q5:14 Cody takes basically the same blindside sack Zach did. Same type of disguised blitz. Ouch, though this one was from big Laing. That's not a Good Time(tm).

I'm guessing it's both a neck injury and a concussion based on the proximity of the neck and head.

Did you miss the conversation about if a player can't practice then the 6 game IR makes the most sense. When he can return to practice then he's moved back to 1 game IR. Compare what we did last year with some players.
There is no downside to the 6 game IR if a player can't practice. He can be removed at any time and SMS would be charged back to 1 game IR.
Gonna be interesting too see what we do with the QBs
Zach isn't dumb and can obviously see Dru did way better than he Zach is capable of.
Has there ever been a player who will concede his spot for the betterment of the team? Zach will still get his 500k.
We all know Oshea will never give up on Zach unless he's being carried off on a stretcher.
Let Zach enjoy a little rehab and be a mentor.
Best option for us is that Zach's never healing neck injury needs some more time. Would like to see what it looks like over more than one home game with Dru but he looked better than Collaros by a far margin with the limited sample size and not a lot of time in the offense.
A Dru/Elgersma/Perkins depth chart with Collaros as the IR stash might make a lot of sense for 2026.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves here. Brown is obviously a very good QB. Collaros still has some mileage left in his game. He also has better chemistry with the receivers at the moment.
We don't know the extent of the injury to Collaros but I can imagine we might leave him on the IR for 1 more game. If it was any other team than the Redblacks maybe not. Argos defence is not that good and I mentioned that before the game.

Dru took off right where he left off in 2023, I don't think Zach counted on quick success when he lobbied for the return of his buddy, but he's now under the gun to outperform him. I don't expect Zach to allow Dru to start in Ottawa next weekend as 2 strong wins in a row would jeopardise his leadership role, also expect O'Shea to back Zach's decision to play 100%.
It was great to see DB4 redeem himself and show everyone clearly Ottawa and Dinwiddie made a brutal error in not going with him as their #1 and trade him, especially with the sad stable of Qb's they have. Going to enjoy watching Dinwiddie go 0-18 this season and set a modern day record for futility. Meanwhile, we're set for the next generation of Qb with Brown here. Be interesting to see when Collaros comes back (next game vs Ottawa) and he'll be anxious to show everyone he still has what it takes and we'll pound Ottawa!!

We traded for Brown in order to have depth and a possible succession plan. Elgersma might fit into that by the end of the season, but Brown has missed injury time as well. Too early to think of trading Collaros IMO.

Agreed, but there is a sigh of relief throughout the city knowing that Brown can step in and we don't miss a beat, if anything our offense is more potent with him in it due to his scrambling ability and I didn't see any recievers outrunning the passes and holding up for the ball, Brown can hit them anywhere on the field and that forces the D to play honest

True but it will take Zach getting knocked out of the game for O'Shea to make the switch again, unless losses continue to mount they will eventually reach the Drew Willy/Matt Nichols moment, with pressure coming from above to make the change.

Dru might be the 2nd coming (of Dru, lol), but
we can't know that right now. In any event, he didn't put up 450 and 5TDs or anything like the CFL slingers do on their best nights. Keep in mind we also stalled drives and tried FGs 6 times.
Quote from: Blue In BC on July 11, 2026, 02:28:48 PMWe don't know the extent of the injury to Collaros but I can imagine we might leave him on the IR for 1 more game. If it was any other team than the Redblacks maybe not. Argos defence is not that good and I mentioned that before the game.
MOS pretty much spelled it out in the pre-game (I think), where he basically said it's all precautionary and Zach thinks he can play
now. It's the same old tale, and it will be the same old result.
The only time they ever held him more than 1 week was when his neck was really acting up. I think this time it's just mini-concussion precaution.
Quote from: Sway on July 11, 2026, 02:19:38 PMHas there ever been a player who will concede his spot for the betterment of the team? Zach will still get his 500k.
Pretty sure if hades froze over and the pigs were flying we could cut Zach before his vet cutdown date (which is probably pretty early). The bonuses & guaranteed $ would be lost, but there'd probably be some savings.
In reality, if we wanted to shed Zach (which we don't), we'd aim a trade at HAM and recover all the Dru 1RDPs
and more. I would say though that the trading Dru to HAM is just as likely as trading Zach!! But neither will happen.
Aside: if we're trading for 2 1RDPs, I'd also nab a player, but the SMS structure means that only an ELC superstar would buy us anything. Does HAM have any ELC superstars in positions we need? That's how you win the cup.

A trade could be worth it for the Ti-Cats if it gets them into the playoffs, by mid-season most of Zach's contract would be paid off by the Bombers and they could easily dump him in the off season if Bo is ready to come back.

Nope. Zach is a Bomber until he retires. My guess at the end of this season. Dru Brown may be the QB of choice and heir apparent at this point but there is no way they will trust TE13 as the back up until he proves he can be the back up. One game is an indicator not proof positive he is yet. Until that time, Zach remains on the roster.

It's not 1 game. Dru has a couple of years as a starting QB. Teams have film on him.
I'm not talking savior; I'm talking moving on to the younger, faster QB who can take a hit and still get up. Dru throws a great ball and made quick decisions. He's what Collaros was when he got to Winnipeg. A breath of fresh air that gave the team renewed hope.
Milt said that it's Collaros' last season. We might as well move on now.

Milt called our OL too old in a year where it was fine.
Zach is going nowhere other than retirement when he is ready. Paying 10 to 1 odds he isn't traded. Less confident about his ability to stay healthy.
I don't think Brown wil ever reach Zach's level but hope I'm wrong. Brown will be good this year and has a chance to be great. Brown hasn't proven his ability to stay healthy.
At this stage of their careers Brown is the better QB and should be starting
I think Collaros remains the starter for the forseeable future. It's not the teams way to even suggest he'd have a short lease. You don't do that to starting QB's.
Settle down and let's see how his health progresses. Reports are that he could have played but the team took the safe route with his health giving him this week off. We should have no issue with that whether we won or lost.
Brown gives us the safety blanket that if Collaros is hurt we know we can still win, we didn't have that pre-trade. If Collaros is healthy and ready to go, he's in, no questions asked. MOS won't entertain even a question or discussion on the matter, it's how it's going to be. So be happy we have a very very good Plan B, but our Plan A is Collaros is the starter u til injury removes him from the picture and I look forward to the remainder of the season worry free on who our Qb is.

Its not all about Zach. Its great he brought us 2 grey cups, but he is being paid very well for what he does, and ultimately, what's best for the team should come first. Whether that's playing Dru or Zach will become clearer as the season progresses.

What's best for the team is to have two GC ready QBs imo.
Zach's inconsistent play has been a factor for the past couple of seasons. I mean he started the game by throwing a pick on the very first offensive play and the Cats scored quickly thereafter with great field position. Before this game he was ranked 8th statistically amongst CFL QBs and that's not good enough to win the West.
Yet we all know that MOS is a Zach fan and thinks he's still the best QB in the league which he's not. There was a time but that time has passed. Both Elgersma and Brown looked better under centre than did Zach but that won't matter and if Zach is really ready and healthy he will start against the RBs.
That's just how MOS works....which imho isn't always in the best interests of the team despite his "team first" philosophy.
The potential high drama of Dru actually starting against his former team after being snubbed by Dinwiddie will likely NOT happen if Zach is healthy. That being said and IF Zach starts and we end up losing to the 0-5 RBs we'll maybe see a change....but even then I doubt it! It will likely take another injury to Zach for Dru to play unless of course he's really not ready and 100% healthy.
I hope I'm dead wrong on this however we are paying Zach over 500K and his performance and lack of production doesn't match this salary level!
The only way this team will work is if u have a clearly defined #1 qb, In ust about every case including the most recent, Ottawa it causes big distractions
Look at BC with Rourke and Adams as another example.
OShea will make it clear that if Zac is healthy he is that guy, Dru knows this.

Works well but after every loss this QB debate will resurface, I see the upcoming game against the Stamps as an early litmus test. As we saw last night the Stamps don't have a hope in hell of beating the Als with a healthy Alexander, so they're likely a 2nd tier team with potential to have big games.
Can the Bombers beat the Stamps playing with a healthy D-line with Zach at QB? He'll have to improve his escape ability a lot to do so. Will O'Shea just accept the status of being a 2nd tier team while losing every game to the most competitive teams as the past 2 seasons have trended towards a new norm?
There is no possible scenario that MOS says Zach is not his #1. If he doesn't play it will be because Brown is healthier.

I would think ZC8 leash is a little shorter now.
Aside from Hamilton and Ottawa anyone can beat anyone on any given night. I d say we can run with anyone and it really comes down to the turnover game. Montreal and Sask are tough at home but definitely beatable.

You're probably right and I think O'Shea's loyalty is charming but QB is the one position where he needs to put that aside and play the best player today. There's no room for error at that spot and things could easily sour depending on what happens now.

Let's say MOS says we're going with Dru for a little while as the hot-hand and good play... then Dru loses the next 2 in spectacular fashion. Then what.
MOS isn't about to start becoming 2025 EDM and the QB carousel: "it's Ford, nope it's not, yes it is, no it's not". The helps no one. There's also optics and saving face, and team cohesiveness; as well as team direction and vision.
For MOS to pull that trigger it will have to be
clear and definite, and with the understanding there's no turning back. Not to mention then Zach could ask for his release to trade to HAM, just like Dru asked for his.
One game doesn't mean anything, especially since the D was winning that game probably even if Elgs was in.

One game. Means next to nothing. If they were sneaky, they'd say Zach sits out one more week "for his health" (not unprecedented) so they get another look at Dru. Beating CGY & that DL is miles harder than beating TOR and that sad-sack D.
I'd say the leash now exists -- whereas it didn't exist at all before. If Zach drops 4-5 games that were somewhat winnable, making bad decisions and lacking in ability, THEN we may see a switch. Maybe. But we'd probably want
more proof Dru won't just do the same thing -- or worse!
Let's also remember that all of this lights a fire under Zach's butt. Sometimes fires can improve one's play, and clear away all the complacency cobwebs.

Uh, Dru is just as likely to not get up as Zach. That foot-tackle "hit" would see Zach getting up too. And the hit Zach took would probably break a bone in Dru.
Dru is the tiniest, slightest, skinniest QB other than maybe VAJ. And it's not just on paper, the dude gets taken out pretty easily by hits too. Maybe more than Zach, because almost all of Zach's missed games were "precaution" in the last 3 years, whereas Dru was really actually hurt.
The fact is we have 2 fragile QBs now. In fact, I wouldn't be shocked if we see our first instance in forever of our #3 having to take over in a game because both #1 and #2 are hurt.

Zach if healthy is > Brown but Brown's performance narrowed that gap, if he starts and roasts Ottawa he takes another step closer. If he beats a good team again, then we talking. One game means almost nothing to me.
I believe health will dictate who plays
I would rest Zach another week and then play him after that and see how it goes. Nice to have two solid options.
Techno is right, we have two injury prone QBs. If both can be healthy the rest of the way, we have the best one two punch I can remember for a very long time. Glenn and Khari maybe only pair at or near that level.

Quote from: dd on July 13, 2026, 03:13:15 PMDru Brown is about the same size as Drew Brees, he had a pretty decent career, Russel Wilson comes to mind as well
Doesn't look like Brown spends as much time in the weight room as Zach does, but I don't think muscle mass is that important for a QB as his technique. I guess a stronger core is a better deterrent against injury though and Zach has a pretty tough body.
The most important factor linked to QB injury is sacks, rather than QB size. Given that both Zach and Dru both function behind the same line, the risk is the same in theory.
However I think Dru actually gets rid of the ball more quickly and has more pocket presence that Zach at this stage of their careers, so he may be less prone to getting sacked and injured.
I'm sure previous frequency of injury likely plays a role in predicting future risk of injury as well, but that has to be correlated with how bad the O-line was they were playing behind in the past.
The other factor is age. All things being equal, a 29 year old QB is less likely to get injured compared to a 37 year old.
Going back to when Dru Brown was with the Blue Bombers 2021-2023; when making the same throws that Zach Collaros does, Brown tends to throw the ball on a lower trajectory. It is most noticeable on mid range passes where Zach throws a rainbow with more touch and Brown zips the ball in on a line. A rainbow allows both the receiver and defender to make adjustments. Throwing on a line allows Brown to thread a needle but can also result in incompletions by simply being slightly off line.

Good point, Brown's passes look more smooth and effortless, he throws a very nice ball.
One thing I noticed was that Druski got the ball off faster and it hit the receivers in stride allowing them to pick up YAC.
I've said this before, but I don't think Zach's arm is any weaker than it was, but his reaction time is slowing. Open receivers become covered because he's missing the throwing window.

Argos secondary was leaving many receivers essentially wide open with soft coverage. That may be a factor in Brown having quick reads and releases. Can he do that against teams that have better defences is the question.

I'll watch for that. One thing you can say about Brown is he's a very accurate passer. There were two or three reads in that game that maybe weren't his best, one was a field side out to Demski who had bracket coverage, it ended up incomplete and probably shouldn't have been thrown but the ball was pretty much right where it was supposed to be, thereby making it feel a lot safer than it was. Just one example, but all game he had above average ball placement that's for sure.

This could unleash Pokey, he's got incredible YAC ability but is often forced to circle back for the ball and fight his way through a herd of defenders. Being so slender he takes a beating every game and there's a lot of mean DB's that specifically gang up on receivers to administer a beat down and intimidate, like the dirty Riders.

Just one of the best of this generation.
"Zach Collaros has thrown 109 passing touchdowns and 50 interceptions across his regular-season career as a member of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. This gives him a highly efficient career touchdown-to-interception ratio of 2.18 and makes him the all-time leader in TD-to-INT differential (+59) in franchise history."
109/50 yup he slings, we are all allowed to give props or support for our fav. players on here.
I look at players entire contributions to their club over many years. Focusing just on the best or worst years isn't a fair representation of ones benefit to their club.
My opinion of the players in this league is based on which ones I like regardless of the team they are on, usually backed by their contribution to the club over longer periods

Yup. But it goes to injury proclivity. Dru's been knocked out of games pretty easily.
Zach looked absolutely strapped compared to Dru. Zach a couple of years back must have started a new weight regimen, because all of a sudden he was jacked (for a QB). It's probably helping to prolong his career.
I don't care about stats, Dru is t.i.n.y out there. Like I said, he's like the Dressler of QBs. Doesn't mean he can't play and dismantle D's though! Tiny VAJ does it.

Zach has worked hard the past few years in the off season, losing weight, bulking up, he obviously wants to put in the work to stay relevant.
Dru is regarded as small and fragile. Now that he is "back home", maybe his buddy Zach can give his some pointers on toughening up. You can be small and durable if you put the work in.

Love that idea, don't just teach him the trade, show him the way to extend one's career!
Quote from: Jesse on July 14, 2026, 02:36:35 PMNo one is forgetting the past. We're predicting future play - which has nothing to do with their peak years.
Future play is yes based on their current abilities but its also routed in the lessons learned from the past. I was simply providing my take on his accuracy, ability to throw TDs while highlighting his career achievements. I am very confident in his current abilities. Split on his ability to stay healthy. I believe our success at QB is more dependent on the play of our OL and how effective our run game is. Overall not worried about Zach return now that we got Dru waiting in the wings.
I believe you are understating the benefit and contributions ones previous success has to their current situation. We all grow and change but we are grounded by our past successes and failures. Zach has adapted by bulking up, might still pay dividends.
Quote from: Tecno on July 14, 2026, 06:17:52 AMYup.
I always thought Trevor Harris was quite small, turns out he's 6'-3" 211 lbs, a couple inches taller than Collaros but not nearly as thick.
Brown is probably more into yoga and flexibility than weights which might be the better path but he has to avoid taking big shots at all costs, self sacrifice to make a completion leads to destruction and months wasted rehabbing. Matt Nichols threw the ball away, Kevin Glenn turtled when surrounded, each method was effective at reducing the amount of hits they took.

There's truth to this, but its a fine line. There's a significant number of plays every game that owe their success to the QB extending plays or standing in and firing a pass despite pressure being on top of them. If you give those up, your offense will be less successful, and it could mean the difference between winning and losing. Riders formula of a strong O-line, great protection, and having the QB get rid of the ball quickly seems like the best formula to follow, but you need the people on the O-line, and you need a QB that can deliver the ball very quickly. Easier said than done. Dru was getting rid of the ball quickly last game.

The Riders O is one way of many to skin a cat. Calling it the best formula is a stretch imo.
A balanced offense that can protect the QB, run the ball well and throw down field is my top recipe.

Understandable. It's the perfect situation, with believable arguments both ways. You can do this and still not have any "QB controversy". It lets you see what you have against a beatable opponent, which can help with decision making later in the season.
I would assume Zach won't even dress then, and it will be Dru/Elgs/Perkins. Even if you could dress Zach as #2, it creates an uncomfortable and distracting situation.

Ya, like the Dru dime to Demski(?) when he has guys mega-whacking him from behind. 1/10th a second later and that's a fumble or wild throw.
It's those types of plays that demoralize the opponent. When you should have had the guy, but not only did he get it away, he got a 10Y 1st down.

But Sirius, lower your prices! It's too darn high. (My wife likes it -- so I pay)
Pretty cool that Sirius in the USA plays CFL games for their customers. I wonder if there's any nielson-style numbers on that.

Sirius 167 "Canada talks " channel that Zach mentioned carries the home team radio broadcast for every CFL game. Handy if you're in your car, or doing something else at the same time.
Also, a LOT of sports talk
Sirius xm Canada is five and a bit dollars ca a month for us. There are always sales and deals.
Just tell them you're cancelling, they'll offer a deal right away. My wife says you have to cancel, then they make the offers.
What
@markf said. SiriusXm customer service is good for discounts and deals.
I became a subscriber in 2019 (new vehicle purchase) and have maintained the same monthly fee since the free trial expired. I just call the help center (https://www.siriusxm.com/help/manage-or-cancel-service) and speak with agent who then renews the yearly contract at the same monthly rate. Easy peasy if you don't mind spending 10-15 mins.

This. I just finished paying 6.95 a month and got a 27 dollar bill. called them immediately and now I pay 8. THey said their prices changed, but whatever, it's not 27. THey probably get credit for the "save" so it's a win for everyone.

Quote from: Blueforlife on July 16, 2026, 05:38:06 PMThey know Brown still start
I'm not too concerned if Brown needs to start. OTOH I am concerned if Collaros is unable to play. This would mean 2 straight games on the IR after missing half of game 4. This is only the 6 game and he will have missed 2 1/2 games already.
If he can't start I don't see him as the # 2 QB this week. It would also bring into question whether he'd be available for the following game.
This is all just speculation and for all I know he'll start against the Redblacks.
Quote from: theaardvark on July 16, 2026, 04:53:10 PMIt is REDBLACKS. See the difference?
Sask fans may not know much, but I'll credit one of them with calling OTT the ALLCAPS.
I am a little surprised Collaros was moved to the 6 game IR. That's not a good sign that he'll be available anytime soon. In theory he can't practice for 4 weeks but obviously he could also be moved off the 6 game IR earlier.

Probably precautionary but they already wasted 2 weeks with Zach on the 1 game, if Dru goes on a roll, expect Zach to sit on the 6 game until they sort things out. He might get one more shot at winning the starting job back, but I think we're seeing the transition in progress.
What's gone is gone for good and Zach can't bring it back, he either shouldn't be playing due to sensitive health concerns or he cares more for the money than for his health, either way not good. On the books he's the biggest expense with diminishing productivity year to year, it's not a popularity contest and nobody is an icon, the primary goal is to win football games and fill the stadium with happy fans.
With Hamilton and BC desperate for a Qb, it is good to see that Bombers didn't let Perkins go because he certainly would have been picked up. If we were to trade a Qb I think you would get a lot for him right now.

Only the 1st game on the 1 game IR applies to SMS at this point. This week counts as game 1 against the 6 game IR.
There is no way Walters trades any of our QB room, with both Zach and Dru's injury history, and Elgersma's potential.
No number of position players or draft picks is worth the risk.

If Collaros has persistent, many-years-long neck crick issues, why aren't we hiring an F1 neck trainer to come give him an invincible neck? There are a ton of things you can do to beef up a neck, but they need specialist trainer.
Ya, it won't solve all neck issues, but it can sure as heck help.

the G forces those drivers withstand over the years are probably equivalent or more than what a qb faces. they are elite athletes.
Is this all related to the neck injury he suffered a few years ago against Edmonton when Dru came in, posted a comeback and led us to victory?
It's concerning that the hit he experienced after Stubblefields tackle against Hamilton resulted in such serious concern for his health and safety.
The hit against Edmonton a few years back was a lot more egregious. I think the D Lineman ( I want to say Ealy) made contact while Zach was falling down or on the ground after throwing a pick (pick 6?).
In any event, if the small amount of contact Zach sustained against Hamilton re aggravates an old injury, he should be concerned about quality of life and start transitioning into his post football career.

he may have a vertebrae that has been fractured or is crushed/damaged in some way
you are right though - i think the horizon on an incredible career is very near.
not sure if he wants to coach but you look at Buck Pierce and AC - they are having great second careers as coaches in the cfl.
The neck is a tricky thing, and sometimes you can't really find out what's causing an issue. And recovery can be a day or 3 months. And yet if you have a messed up neck, you can't do much of anything. Those who have gotten a chronic cricky neck at times will know what I mean.

But ya, some corners have F1 drivers' heads trying to fly off their shoulders at 4-5G, and some for 3 to 8 seconds at a time. 5-15 times a lap. 50-70 laps a race.
I promise you that if Zach trained to withstand that, he'd be a lot less prone to neck issues.
I wonder... did Zach ask to be put on the 6G saying "I can't do this anymore guys"?

I think he's had many injuries over the course of a long career and there's no pinpointing an origin point. These things are cumulative.
It's genuinely a real shame that this is the way Zach's (potentially) last season is going to go. It's yet another gut punch to fans about the lost Grey Cups and the way we treated our home Grey Cup season.
Not the way this run should have ended.
If this is the end, it's fine. Compare with BLM. Zach has gotten to the cup more times in recent years than BLM could have ever dreamed of. If bo is over, and you don't consider his last few years a failure, then how could you say Zach's is one?
No one knows the future. You di the best you can with what your given and the time you have. I'm satisfied Zach did that.
Zach will be back for the LDC!!!

Not disputing that, I'm a long term fan of the sport and take note the neck training component has only been introduced within the last 20 years as a part of the drivers fitness regime. But unless they've been in hundreds of accidents they haven't suffered near as many impact events were bones collide with bones, chipping and grinding them down and twisting the supporting ligaments until the elasticity has been stressed beyond functionality. The neck is extremely vulnerable because the bone structure is smaller and lighter than the vertebrae in the rest of the spine, designed to accommodate movement and flexibility.
Could be the case but I've never heard of a retired driver complain about the toll the physical nature of the sport took on their health, Jackie Stewart is still going strong at 87.

I doubt Zach would even discuss that topic publicly. Unless he wants to continue as a backup next year taking a pay cut won't change anything, if he can't reliably preform he'll no longer be considered a starter. Big issue if Zach comes back again next year and Walters has to pay Brown his full wage, although 9th in top QB salaries he's still earning more than every other player but Zach on the team. Possibility if he does well this year he may demand over $400k next season.

That thought doesn't even make sense. We're midseason.
Fajardo his career the last three years has been dink amd dunk. After a few of those he throws a mid to long term ball. They have it figured out.
It's been a great season to watch the games evolve. Game plans start and then change during the game.
Congratulations to the kid playing QB in Hamilton - Ford. He may have just bought himself a career. He played really well. They should have lost, but still he did what he had to do. They ran him just enough. They better get a running game though.

BLM was on borrowed time before the injury. Coming back after this is almost impossible. Not just the extent of the injury, but what it takes to rehab.
If HAM plans for a future that includes BLM, they are negligent. Happy circumstance if it happens, but serious long shot.

How about Lauda, he sure made his health issues public. Or Hakkinen Hakkinen his brake dust lung issues.
Most drivers are too proud to complain even if there was something wrong. And I think the F1 media money machine is loathe to protect anything negative.
