Title: Free agency
Post by: Blue In BC on February 10, 2026, 07:14:51 PM
Ok. Most of the players that were moving in the tampering window are now becoming official.

So far only Santos-Knox is a new transaction but he was not part of the tampering window deals.

I haven't seen any player that was left on the potential free agents moving anywhere yet.

That's a bit of a surprise.

Haven't noticed anything new happen yet, besides the Santos-Knox signing.

I would have liked to have him back but the TiCats and Bombers keep signing each others free agents.

Jarreth Sterns signs in Montreal, and Vaughters in Saskatchewan, reuniting him with Corey Mace.

Seems unlikely we would go with a rookie at WR, no?

I'm intrigued and confused.

That could be dangerous, Wheatie now has a QB that can lead him on deep routes.

You have to have guys on cheap contracts somewhere. We do have White and Demski collecting big pay checks already.

Ouch... really, ouch.  Ya, NAT, but ouch.  A couple of years ago that's what Demski was earning.  And Nield is no Demski and probably never will be.

Statistically, Neild's exactly where Demski was at age 26. Maybe even a little bit ahead since he put up the same yardage in 13 games.

Maybe, but I just don't see it.  Completely different body type meaning he has to end up along a different path.  We'll need a better comparison than Demski -- who's the last Demski-level great big-body type NAT?

I don't care if he's a Demski clone if he can match Demski's production, lol.

I guess it will depend on who we replace him with this year. Could be a late acquisition in free agency or some rookie that wins the role in TC.

My preference would have been to bring him back to see if he continued to progress.

Heres hoping he follows Mccinnis trajectory who has s similar body type and finally found his stride in 4th season

He's essentially had 2 successful games in his career. He made one big catch in his rookie year (that was a busted coverage - he was wide open) and ran the route so poorly he robbed himself of a TD. And had a 100 yard game to open the 2025 season (his best game to date), and pretty much did nothing after that.

I hope he has success in hammy, but I am very happy to look for an upgrade.

Jesse's right.  Wheatie appears to have peaked, and I think still had some mental stumbles and was screwing up on his assignments.  I don't think Zach/MOS were very happy with him come season end.

We kicked the tires, he gets to try again in HAM, and we get to try the Next Big Thing.  Having 1 IMP rookie start week 1 is completely normal for the CFL.

I think that's shooting a bit high, I think McInnis secret weapon is the QB throwing him the ball, Neild's skill level is more like that of Woli, nothing wrong with that, he's younger.  Fairly lumbering and not deceptive or a brilliant route runner, gets to the right place and hangs onto the ball plus a robust YAC runner.  Both the Argos and Riders let him walk while hanging onto to other Natl. receivers, Zach won't be counting on him to hit homeruns, just to be a reliable target.

We'll see. The TiCats thought enough of him to sign him to a 2 year deal.

You never know.  McInnis took quite a while to hit his breakout year in BC.  Did nothing in SSK.  He is a good comparable for Nield, though.

I think he'll do fine there. He'll get more targets and accumulate more stats.

I don't think that means he's a better player than what we saw.

I think the Bombers are winning free agency. They have picked up some key pieces in areas of need and have really not lost any impact plaers like they have in past years.

All that's left of the unsigned on the Bomber roster and half of them are still recovering from injury.

WOODS, Jamal
STREVELER, Chris
SCHOEN, Dalton
MITCHELL, Dillon
LAWSON, Dexter
GAUTHIER, Shayne
CASE, Kody
BONDS, Terrell

STREVELER, Chris - thank you for your service and best of luck
SCHOEN, Dalton - unlucky and unfair.  Best of luck in your future
MITCHELL, Dillon - GTFO
LAWSON, Dexter - simply didn't do enough to show he deserves to be back
GAUTHIER, Shayne - it's been a good run, thank you for your service
CASE, Kody - simply didn't do enough to show he deserves to be back
BONDS, Terrell - played his way out of a starting job.  Thanks for your service.

Every Bomber on the "still unsigned" list is now open to lowball offers.

I would re-up Bonds as depth, or in case our current idea at that corner doesn't pan out.

I'd dabble in Schoen & Strev if they'll sign for cheap and NO bonus.  Can you imagine what a healthy Schoen could do for us come October??  Or his knee blows up again, but with no bonus, no risk.
