Title: Bomber DB's
Post by: Blue In BC on February 08, 2026, 03:52:38 PM
Just noticed that most of the rookie DB's signed so far are 6'1" or taller. I made a similar comment about the rookie DL earlier.

Is this a newer trend by the team getting more away from what I remember more recently?

That's a very good trend, if Jamal Parker had better size he might still be on the team.

After another check we have 60 players on the current roster listed as 6'1" or taller and only 25 that are listed at 6' of less.

Might need to order some extra tall pants for TC. lol

This feels like a fairly even split for a football team. I'm not sure it's a change from any other year.

Two of the FAs we signed to starter positions (White and Moxey) are both 5'9", so I don't think there's a sweeping change in our recruitment philosophy.

Sure. We can never tell what happens during TC. It's just a feeling I have that we're bringing in some taller players. Taller doesn't automatically mean better or that they make the roster.

The RB signed recently is only about 5'5" so we're also signing some shorter players as well. In his case in particular some posters are optimistic that he might have a chance to make the PR.

There are about 12 players that will drop off the roster in a couple of days. That will leave us something like 75 players left. That means will be adding another 30 more or less before rookie camp. In between there will be tryouts and some player signed now may be released as perceived better players are found.

I think it's fair to say there's a bigger focus on size, especially with DB's and WR's. You can't teach size.
We have Bryan Addison that is 6'5". He's a big hitter, but can he stay with guys in coverage? There's so much open field in the CFL.
Cameron McCutcheon is still my name to watch out for in TC. Who knows till we actually see them in action... but I'm calling my shot now.

Defintely something to this, it comes down to maneuvability and quickness, you rarely see RB's over 6'-0" and the same goes for DB's, being fast isn't enough they have to be able to adjust and accelerate quickly to cover shifty receivers.  Taller DB's with those abilities are likely prized by the NFL but most athletes that size probably choose to be become receivers instead.  DB's are all the kids that wanted to play football but didn't have enough size or skill to play anywhere else, so the coach sticks them in the secondary and hopes for the best.

Bombers agree to terms with Moxey on 2 year deal. I like locking him up for 2 years.
