Calgary Stampeders banged up in secondary for matchup with Argos
By 3Down Staff -October 17, 2025

The Calgary Stampeders will have an eclectic mix in the secondary for their matchup with Toronto on Saturday.

Safety Damon Webb will miss his second consecutive week with a pectoral injury, while cornerback Anthony Johnson (shoulder) and halfback Lance Robinson (shoulder) will also miss.

Global Bailey Devine-Scott will start his second game in the middle, with Canadian journeyman Godfrey Onyeka filling in at boundary halfback after making several starts at cornerback earlier this season. Undrafted Canadian rookie Dolani Robinson gets the surprise start at boundary corner despite former first-round CFL Draft pick Ben Labrosse coming off the injured list, though American Jacobe Covington could rotate into that spot in his first career game, depending on how the team manipulates its ratio in-game.

On the other side of the ball, the team has lost right tackle Josh Coker to a knee injury, but will get left tackle D'Antne Demery back in the lineup. Rookie Preston Nichols moves over to the right side, and Rodeem Brown comes onto the roster to replace injured sixth-man Tomas Jack-Kurdyla (calf).

In other moves, backup linebacker Morice Blackwell (ankle) is out this week, facilitating the return of future Hall of Famer Adam Bighill in a depth role. Kaylon Horton will dress as an extra receiver and returner, with Canadian rookie Vyshonne Janusas going back to the practice roster.

The Calgary Stampeders (9-7) will host the Toronto Argonauts (5-12) at McMahon Stadium on Saturday, October 18, with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m. EDT. The Argonauts lost in Saskatchewan this past week, while the Stampeders snapped a four-game losing skid with a 37-20 victory over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

The weather forecast in Calgary calls for a high of 11 degrees with a mix of sun and clouds. The game will be broadcast on TSN in Canada and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune in on TSN 1050 in Toronto and 770 CHQR in Calgary.

DL Andrew Chatfield Jr. out for final game of Toronto Argonauts' season
By 3Down Staff -October 17, 2025

The Toronto Argonauts will conclude the 2025 season on Saturday without the services of their top pass rusher.

Defensive end Andrew Chatfield Jr. will sit out the regular-season finale with a foot injury. In 17 games this season, the 26-year-old has recorded 42 defensive tackles, seven sacks, and a defensive touchdown.

The Argos will use the opportunity to get a look at a couple of other players, with veteran Global defensive end Thiadric Hansen (calf) also unable to go. Brevin Allen will make his CFL debut, while Greg Reaves will dress for the first time since Week 5.

Along the offensive line, Anthony Vandal has been demoted in favour of veteran Shane Richards. Darius Ciraco is returning from injury but will not start.

Other notable players out this week include Canadian offensive lineman Dylan Giffen (back) and National defensive back Jonathan Edouard (foot). Receiver Dorian Anderson will be a healthy scratch. Canadian receiver Ezechiel Tieide will make his Argos debut, while Global kicker Alfredo Gachuz Lozada dresses as a third specialist.

The Toronto Argonauts (5-12) will visit the Calgary Stampeders (9-7) at McMahon Stadium on Saturday, October 18, with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m. EDT. The Argonauts lost in Saskatchewan this past week, while the Stampeders snapped a four-game losing skid with a 37-20 victory over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Doege is completing a lot of passes after the initial pick 6. It doesn't mean much if they have to rely on Hajrullahu nailing long FGs. That 58 yard attempt was ugly.

VA looks evasive today. Mills already with 131 yards from scrimmage.

Man just watching calgarys defensive line, wow now that's what a defensive line looks like!!constant pressure and only rushing 4. Sacks , tackles for losses, intentional grounding. Wow. Their one DT had 14 tackles in 6 games that's more than our tackles combined all season!!

It certainly is a different philosophy. It reminds me of Hamilton back in the 80s & 90s.

They had 4 sacks in the first half alone! You have to go back to Jeffcoat days in his prime for stats like that

Dickie is a bottom feeder... really did you have to challenge with a 44 to 7 lead and 1:07 left, I realize you won the challenge but let the game end and season for Toronto

He's as classless as they come

The football gods have a way of getting back on those who pull such stunts I fully expect bc to beat them in the playoffs

This is just to prove to all the "play your #2 QB when you're up 2.5 TDs" people that in the CFL no one EVER does that.  What was DTG up by?  3, 4, 5 TDs?  OK, ya, that was excessive and even MOS would put in the #2 when up by 3.5 TDs -- especially against a team doing QB tryouts.

I don't know if anyone noticed, but VAJ was doing his crying eyes thing the rest of the game.  He gets these red watery eyes and his whole face looks po-faced when he's getting emotional.  Worst poker face in the history of CFL.

I wonder if VAJ didn't do something nasty to that hip.  Would once again prove my "running QBs get hurt more" theory (stats be darned).  We'll know when they set the roster next week.  VAJ being hurt for weeks would be a gift to SSK: then they only have to worry about Rourke.  Not saying he's anything more than dinged up, but it is possible.

Haha, DTG and that challenge you guys!  What a DB.  TOR & Herslow has nothing to live for and you take away a nice SC highlight play that all of Canada can enjoy?  Let the kid have his moment of glory.

P.S. Herslow is the next Ellingson (in his prime) -- do whatever it takes to get him!  What a scouting find.  Super hands, smart kid, super athletic, good accel, good speed, great hurdling.  What's not to love?

There are a bunch of these smart receivers in the league like Schoen, guys without blazing speed have to know the playbook and become reliable targets to compete.  If Zach is back next season hope to see them go after some of the following if available.

Jake Herslow
Joe Robustelli
Tommy Nield
Tyler Snead
Ayden Eberhardt
Clark Barnes
Mitchell Picton (sleeper)
Drew Wolitarsky

Mitchell, Wheatfall probably gone, don't know if they'll keep Clercius or not, he has the athletic ability but does not mesh with Zach often enough.

Herslow and Robustelli and Snead had real breakout seasons, not sure what their contract status is, but teams will come courting these guys.

Als wisely re-upped Snead a month ago for 2 years, a few are rookies but any of the 3 from Sask. could be cut after TC next season.

I play fantasy religiously, so I have a fair understanding of how productive the sneaky "cheaper" RECs are.

Robustelli had a hot start but has been really dead for the last third of the season.

Snead seems to be a keeper.  I'd say the best of the bunch after Herslow.

Eberhardt looks good but doesn't see much action.  Very hit & miss and doesn't always haul them in.

Imagine Herslow on a good team with a good QB!  He's lighting it up on a garbage team that never had a QB.
