What's going on here - no announcement at all? Last year the Jonas Brothers were announced in June as the performer...we are just over a month away and nothing. Very strange...
Just do the racing dogs and the frisbee dogs while Fred Penner sings the cat came back and call it the best show in history.
CFL should be announcing the act next week!
I believe Nickelback signed a 10 year deal to play the half-time show every year for the next 10.
TayTay just confirmed she turned down the Super Bowl gig, so...maybe? ;)
Rush is touring next year, maybe we can get a preview?
Would be the most awesome halftime ever...

Maybe that's why the CFL couldn't announce it yet, until Rush announced their tour ??
That would be so awesome.

Don't dis Fred. I thought that halftime @PAS with him last year was the best one in ages.
As for Rush, I'm not a fan at all, but I think they'd put on a superb show. And they are SCTV fans, so that makes them OK in my book. Imagine that jumbo nose on the jumbotron! Scary!
If I got to choose, I'd do Fleetwood Mac. Even my wife might actually go to the game then (only Pinnacle indoor seats, of course, LOL).

Well now you're swinging for the fence...don't know if you'll get lucky with a strike
Hope you got the reference.
But that would be my absolute perfect 1/2 time. Except not enough time. Saw them both the last time they were through here - separately of course - and can't imagine restricting either of them to 15-20 min, let alone together. So I would prefer to see them together here in Wpg, the logical place for them to come together, and plan for a long night.
Okay - just nerding out on some of the greatest music to ever happen, but it is a Bomber forum so I'll stop now.

Of course I got the reference. Only a few on here know my old PJ user name is a nod to the band. I also have seen them both many times and was joking but everytime we talk halftime I bring them up. I went to the vote for change tour many years ago, missed Neil playing with PJ by one night. Fans were buzzing. I to have dreamed of the dual in Wpg for 20 years.

At they aren't getting the ridiculous Bad Bunny like the Super Bowl. Guy doesn't even sing in English. ***. :D
I want Goldmember with a banjo!!!
Isn't Shania about ready for another shot? Her McDonalds campaign seems to suggest she's looking for promotions.
If you can't get Rush, how about a Loverboy/Trooper/April Wine combo.
Would Burton Cummings / BTO be too old?
The game is on a Sunday, why not The Weeknd?
What are Avril Levigne and Bryan Adams doing these days?
If the NFL gets Bad Bunny, how about we counter with Shawn Mendes?
Arcade Fire? Alanis Morisette? Sum 41?
So many Canadian options, please, no "Three Doors Down"

I used to like Arcade Fire and suggested them in the past but the lead singer has a questionable past and a terrible idea / PR nightmare imo.

Machine Gun Kelly. Surprised and happy.

Maybe they should have flipped the pre-game and halftime talent...
Not sure someone named after a weapon is appropriate for the CFL, nor will his music be attractive to the Winnipeg crowd that should make up a large part of the attendance.
Is this pick better or worse than the NFL Bad Bunny selection?
Agreed. Our Lady Peace for half time show would have been much more appropriate and better selection. The league seems to have gotten away from having Canadian talent/acts perform at half time, and that's a shame, as its a Canadian event.

I've been tuned out from popular culture since before the turn of the century so I realize they're not targeting my demographic, but I really don't see who they think is going to tune in specifically to watch this show that would also hang around and watch a CFL football game.
Again, it's the same mindset from league officials, let's bring in a current performer to attract viewers that don't and won't ever consume our product and ignore what current fans might enjoy because they've bought their tickets or are already watching the game .
What MGK's performance might look like. This is from an NFL game in Germany last year.
I am guessing he'll play Country Roads. Hey, maybe Jelly Roll will show up.

That's bad, sounds like ****.
Even though I don't like him and his music, it's good for the league to have someone famous who connects with the younger generation (many of whom may now watch the game now primarily for this reason). Yeah, I wish we had a Canadian artist but to my poor knowledge of the kids these days, I'm not aware of many Canadian artists as famous as the upper echelon American ones (aside from Drake I guess) in the present time. I don't think we have a Shania, Avril, Sum 41 etc anymore right now unfortunately.
People like us are already watching the game and while we/I would appreciate watching something I like, fact of the matter is that the halftime show is an additional tool to bring in new eyeballs and so they need to milk that. MGK - while lame imo - is going to do more than having a beloved has-been. It legitimizes the league as much as I hate to say it lol.
OLP on the other hand is SOLID for pregame. Canadian, decades of great music with memorable hits, and despite being a moderate fan over the last ~quarter century, I have never seen them live so I'm getting a free bonus concert as far as I'm concerned.

Anyone who is a Bob Dylan fan knows that he is a fan of MGK.
The unlikely friendship sprung in late February earlier this year, when Dylan posted a video of MGK performing in a record store in 2016 to his Instagram page.
MGK attended the Outlaw Music Festival in Hollywood back in May, where he had a face-to-face encounter with Dylan. According to MGK, Dylan said to him, "You really rip it, man."
Dylan's voice can be heard on MGK's latest album trailer Lost Americana noting how MGK's "music celebrates the beauty found in the in-between spaces".

From a purely production and cinemaphotography standpoint I think that's probably the best Grey Cup half time show I've seen. Obviously your music preference aside, they did a really good job with it. Felt good live. Looked better on TV even just watching it now.
Yeah, I'm no fan of the music and did not know a single part of a single song, but he did the league well and we didn't look cheap/Mickey Mouse. I heard some chatter online from Americans that the CFL championship half time show will be better than the Super Bowl one.
It's too bad OLP was limited to 3 shortened song medleys. I know the opener is not going to be a long show but that felt like it was over in a snap after I had been looking forward to it all day.

The computer-synced pyro & fireworks (including on the roof) are getting so good now. Yes, the show was very well done this year, and everything seemed to work fine once they got going. Speakers were very good, tons of bass going on.
When the show ended and the clock showed like 6:00 before KO, I thought no way they get the turf cleared in time. But they did! Great job by all involved.
As for "best": I still think the '19 Urban show was better with the huge obelisk with a huge Carrie Underwood projected on it -- that was slick.

That's nonsense! Here are the Stones' hits from the last forty years:
Harlem Shuffle - Feb. 1986
One Hit (To the Body) - May 1986
Mixed Emotions - Aug. 1989
Almost Hear You Sigh - Jan. 1990
Love Is Strong - July 1994
Out of Tears - Nov. 1994
Like a Rolling Stone (live) - Oct. 1995
Doom and Gloom - Oct. 2012
Living in a Ghost Town - April 2020
Angry - Sep. 2023
These would be my favourites in rough order:
Mixed Emotions (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=loNey3n6uuE)
One Hit (To the Body) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dx2WRQLSIew)
Harlem Shuffle (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nAkMTu6q2pY)

As a fellow millennial, I have to agree that Green Day live doesn't disappoint. And they're such an iconic 90s/00s band, too.
It sounds like MGK put on a really good half-time show despite my old millennial self having basically no idea what his music is. By all accounts it was a success, which makes me happy as a fan of this league. Good publicity is the best kind.
I didn't know the band, but I thought the songs were pretty decent for hearing them the first time. What really impressed me though was the sound. It was fantastic. Especially given the situation of needing a quick set up and take down. They really killed it there.
Green Day is weak life imo, they can't get the crowd going through the music and try to hype up the crowd too much in other ways. Didn't feel authentic to me.
