RB William Stanback returns to Ottawa Redblacks' lineup against Riders
By 3Down Staff -October 2, 2025
The Ottawa Redblacks will have a couple of key performers back in the lineup when they face the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Friday, most notably running back William Stanback.
The 31-year-old ball carrier missed Ottawa's last game with a back injury, but recovered over the course of the bye and was a full participant for the final two days of practice. In 13 games this season, he has carried 107 times for 510 yards and three touchdowns, while catching 24 passes for 184 yards through the air. Stanback remains listed as a backup behind Canadian Daniel Adeboboye, but is expected to see the bulk of the carries.
Also returning to the lineup is American safety Bennett Williams, who has been out of the lineup since Week 12 with a hamstring injury. In eight games this year, the 26-year-old has recorded 14 defensive tackles, nine special teams tackles, and two forced fumbles. Field halfback Mark Milton will be absent this week due to personal reasons, with Deandre Lamont bumping over to fill his role.
Punter Richie Leone is back after a personal absence, knocking Noah Gettman out of the lineup. Canadian linebacker James Peter has been re-inserted for depth, and rookie American linebacker Jamie Pettway will make his CFL debut.
Defensive tackle Michael Wakefield is listed as the starter at defensive end in light of the recent departure of Lorenzo Mauldin IV via trade to the Calgary Stampeders. Canadian defensive back King Ambers has been returned to the practice roster, while returner DeVonte Dedmon is a healthy scratch.
The Ottawa Redblacks (4-10) will host the Saskatchewan Roughriders (10-4) at TD Place Stadium on Friday, October 3 with kickoff slated for 7:30 p.m. EDT. The Riders are coming off a heartbreaking loss to the Edmonton Elks, while the Redblacks were on a bye.
The weather forecast in Ottawa calls for a high of 21 degrees with a mix of sun and cloud. The game will be broadcast on TSN and RDS in Canada and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune-in on 620 CKRM in Regina and TSN 1200 in Ottawa.

Saskatchewan Roughriders move C.J. Reavis to safety, start Antoine Brooks Jr. at SAM against Ottawa
By 3Down Staff -October 2, 2025
The Saskatchewan Roughriders will have a different look in the secondary when they face the Ottawa Redblacks on Friday.
Veteran C.J. Reavis has been moved from his usual spot at strong-side linebacker to the safety position, as the team continues to compensate for the injuries to Nelson Lokombo and Jaxon Ford. The 29-year-old has been an All-CFL candidate at his regular position this season, racking up 54 defensive tackles, two sacks, an interception, and two forced fumbles.
Replacing Reavis in the box is Antoine Brooks Jr., who has made six defensive tackles, six special teams tackles, and an interception this season while primarily subbing in at cornerback. Former fourth-round NFL Draft pick Sheldrick Redwine will make his CFL debut as a depth piece amidst the changes.
The Riders have made several other significant changes to their lineup, namely the addition of struggling kicker Brett Lauther (back) to the one-game injured list. Campbell Fair will handle place-kicking duties in his absence. Saskatchewan will also be without short-yardage quarterback Tommy Stevens due to a knee injury, prompting Jack Coan to dress as a third QB.
Canadian receiver Kian Schaffer-Baker will make his much-anticipated return to the starting lineup after he suffered a foot injury in the season-opener. The 27-year-old has been limited to 53 career CFL games due to injury, but has collected 205 receptions for 2,688 yards and 14 touchdowns. Local product Mitch Picton will be a healthy scratch to make room.
Also returning from injury are Canadian running back Thomas Bertrand-Hudon and Canadian linebacker Melique Straker. Canadian offensive lineman Daniel Johnson will sit out with a foot injury, moving Philippe Gagnon to left guard and prompting the addition of Braydon Noll as a sixth man. Canadian defensive lineman Deshawn Stevens and American running back Mario Anderson Jr. have been placed on the practice roster.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders (10-4) will visit the Ottawa Redblacks (4-10) at TD Place Stadium on Friday, October 3 with kickoff slated for 7:30 p.m. EDT. The Riders are coming off a heartbreaking loss to the Edmonton Elks, while the Redblacks were on a bye.

Roughriders new kicker Campbell Fair missed his first convert attempt.
Pick 6 by Dru Brown after moving the ball.
Saskatchewan chasing points by going for 2-point convert after 2nd TD.
Pimpleton punt return for a TD wiped out by an Illegal Block penalty.
Dyce challenges the IB penalty, he wasn't going to win that challenge.
Dustin Nielson keeps calling Jesse Mirco 'Couch'. 3 times now!
The only thing obstructing us from the play is TSN. They have missed the start of several plays due to tempo offences.

I was wondering whats going to happen during the broadcasts next season when the league goes to the 35 second clock.
Might see more split screens when they show replays.

That Pimpleton is a dangerous dude. I would love to see him in Bomber colours next year. He's a threat to break it every time he touches the ball. Squandering his playing years playing in Ottawa. Come west young man, come west!!
Missing the start of a play is a direction issue.
I honestly don't think the 35 second clock will affect the ability to show replays.
The biggest challenge will be on coaches who will have to make much quicker decisions, especially on 3rd downs. Those are the situations where most of the time gets wasted.

The league's going to learn the hard way, that a 35 seond clock on a 65 yd wide field won't work...too much ground to cover for officials and player substitions. If the NFL uses 40 seconds, you'd give we'd go 45, or 40 at the most, pushing it to 35 is too much/not doeable, but like I said, the league will learn the hard way in pre season when everyone-players, coaches and officials, screw up because things are too rushed.
Why does Brown insist on throwing the ball underneath when everyone is dropping. 3rd pick of the night, Ottawa not only stinks, they're pretty dumb. Big changes coming this off season, need new blood calling the shots there.

He's waaaay over rated!!
That said I really like how Dustin crum has developed as a Qb and I d seriously Perdue him this off season if he's available. The guys a fighter. He takes what the defense gives him and when there's nothing he runs to try and open up a pass or get a first down. After playing and losing in Ottawa, I m sure he's ready for a change of scenery and I can see him apprentice under Zach in his final year and potentially take over the offense the following year. He's totally outplaying brown right now and everyone is gushing over him heck I'd take crum in a second over picky city brown
Pass on Crum
Man where does Saskatchewan get their kickers from. This new guy makes Lauther look like lui pasaglia
Mulligan looks hurt bad
Leg bend wrong way a bit
Walked off ok
Quote from: Blueforlife on October 04, 2025, 01:45:20 AMPass on Crum
Not sure why. He's moving the ball with Ottawa woeful offense and hasn't turned the ball over in 4 1/2 games. That's all you want from your #2. If I was him I d be looking for a contender to play for next year-BC, Calgary or us would give him an opportunity to play winning football and further develop vs languish in a loser program like Ottawa
TD pass from crum to bring them within 10. Should have put him in after browns 3rd pick to give him a fair chance of a comeback , but I bet he comes back and scores again before the games done. That's all you want from your #2, move the ball, don't turn it over, score some points and he does everyone of those 3
Ottawa should treat every play like it is 3rd and medium. It seems to be working for them.
Dru Brown.... He looked good, played well when he was here.

I am looking for a #1 for the future, yes Crum a top #2
dyce firing must be imminent

Hopefully he continues to look bad for the remainder of the season and Ottawa deals him back to Wpg. in the off-season. Mighth cost the Bombers something big but I have confidence his career can be revitalized in the right environment.

For sure but I don't see one shaking loose that's all. Teams know full well the value and worth
Crum has really come into his own this season and will continue to develop. Bring him here next year to be our number two and get them to work with Zach and our offence and then the following year he potentially makes that step to number one worst case you have an excellent number two quarterback a year from now

But has not played well there, waaay too many picks. I think some of the blame is play design trying to throw to receivers underneath when linebackers are dropping and picking his passes off, they should have a receiver running a drag route across the field to hold the linebackers up until they do that he ll throw picks until the cows come home

Odd part was they continued to use one over the middle Play after Crum went in and it worked pretty well.
That play looked kind of risky to me. Not sure why riders had three defenders on one receiver, a few times. Must be that obvious.

You could see on the pick 6 that the receiver drifted into the coverage and I'd blame him for being at fault on that one.
And yet they continue to throw the middle pass into heavy coverage, to me, that's poor play calling, and you deserve to throw a ton of picks. Most teams, including us, leak a drag route across the field as your check down and take that as the 7-8 yard gain is there all day because the LB drop, if LB's don't drop, throw the mid 15 yard pass, but Ottawa has only the mid 15 yard route with nothing underneath, no wonder they're getting picked off, that's poor play design and that's on the coaches.
It will be interesting to see how Ottawa reacts after the season ends, they're liable to blow up the ship and send the whole crew overboard. In that scenario do they retain Brown as the starter or do they try to bring in another QB already playing in the league through trade or FA. Obvious choices for them are Arbuckle, MBT or Fajardo, unless the Elks make him feel very wanted he's going to listen to offers.

I think the blow it up, they are struggling and have gave Dyce tons of time to turn it around and they still suck. I like Pimpleton and Crum on that roster, wish we could get both this off season, and Im sure they'd like out of loser-ville Ottawa.

In 3 seasons as the RB's HC Bob Dyce accumulated a .393 winning percentage, I wonder how that compares to O'Shea's first 3 seasons?

O'Shea won 23 games his 1st three seasons (.426) and made the playoffs in the 3rd season.
Dyce has won 17 games (with 3 games left this season), and made the playoffs last year.

Definitely, who's next, Rick Campbell? Noel Thorpe? Qualified HC candidates are scarce. Is GM Shawn Burke safe?

TOR loves to drop the LB and steal those INTs. That's one of the plays that lost us the 1st TOR GC -- remember Henoc? Sometimes it's hard to see all of those droppers, and when they show the QB-view I can see why. It's a confusing mess.
I guess the good QBs can make a mental picture of where every D guy is and adjust accordingly. If they mis-guess a LBer in a mid-pass route, well, possible INT.
And thanks for nothing OTT. You just cost us a possible #1 in W. Thanks a lot Dru. Nice day to throw a zillion INTs.
P.S. Can't wait until we blow SSK out of the water in Mosaic in the WDF. Cocky dorks aren't nearly as good as their record. They rely on a couple of tricks on both sides, other than that they have nothing.
I did like how SSK went mega BOLD on their last series. When everyone in Canada knew it was going to Oullette, and they chucked some risky mid/short passes 2+ times. I want to see that from my team in big games. Do the unexpected. Don't give the ball back.
Forgot to mention, you-know-who ref called an awful HC tackle penalty early in the game. Complete phantom call. Even TSN noticed.
Then later in the game you-know-who ref calls the same thing, but this time the grown ups in the building stepped in and said NO and picked up the flag. The 2nd HC was even more phantom and JSK was freaking out how stupid it all was.
Quote from: Throw Long Bannatyne on October 05, 2025, 05:04:53 PMDefinitely, who's next, Rick Campbell? Noel Thorpe? Qualified HC candidates are scarce. Is GM Shawn Burke safe?
Burke should have been on a short leash after choseing Dyce over Mace in retrospect. I like your suggestion of Noel Thorpe for HC.
