Toronto Argonauts move Jake Herslow into starting role following Damonte Coxie injury
By 3Down Staff -August 22, 2025
The Toronto Argonauts will be giving some more run to an intriguing young receiver against the B.C. Lions.
Jake Herslow will step into a starting role this week following the head injury to leading target Damonte Coxie, who was placed on the one-game injured list. The 27-year-old has appeared in five games this season as a backup but has seen significant action the last two weeks, catching 14 passes for 167 yards and two touchdowns.
Herslow will have big shoes to fill, as Coxie currently sits second in CFL receiving yardage, having caught 48 passes for 854 yards and six touchdowns.
On the other side of the ball, defensive tackle Jordan Williams (shoulder) has been placed on the one-game injured list and will cede his starting role to rookie Ricky Correia. Defensive back Delonte Hood will draw into the lineup and take over at field corner from National Jonathan Edouard.
Long-snapper Adam Guillemette (head) has been placed on the six-game injured list. Simon Chaves, who was acquired via trade on Thursday, will get the nod in his place.
The Toronto Argonauts (2-8) will host the B.C. Lions (5-5) at BMO Field on Saturday, August 23 with kickoff slated for 3:00 p.m. EDT. The Lions are coming off a 36-18 win over the Montreal Alouettes, while the Argonauts lost 28-20 against the Edmonton Elks.
The weather forecast in Toronto calls for a high of 26 degrees with cloudy conditions and a 30 percent chance of rain. The game will be broadcast on TSN and CTV in Canada and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune in on 730 CKNW in Vancouver and TSN 1050 in Toronto.

Rookie FB Jacob Bond returns for healthy B.C. Lions against Argos
By 3Down Staff -August 22, 2025
The B.C. Lions will have a virtually unchanged lineup when they face the Toronto Argonauts on Saturday.
Rookie Canadian fullback Jacob Bond will be the only new addition for the team this week after he missed last week's game with a thigh injury. The converted linebacker, who joined the team as a territorial exemption from the Okanagan Sun, has appeared in four games and will take the place of rookie offensive lineman Alex Berwick, who has been returned to the practice roster.
The Lions have just four players on the one-game injured list. Three of those — defensive tackles Tibo Debaillie and Marcus Moore, as well as receiver Jermaine Jackson — have been full participants in practice and could return at any time, while defensive back Jalon Edwards-Cooper remains limited with a knee injury.
Offensive linemen Michael Couture (hand) and Tyler Packer (head), as well as linebacker Adam Auclair (ankle), have been limited participants as they eye a potential return from the six-game injured list after the bye. Offensive linemen Dejon Allen and David Foucault, linebacker Isaiah Guzylak-Messam, and defensive back Tyler Coyle all remain out long-term and ineligible for practice.
The B.C. Lions (5-5) will visit the Toronto Argonauts (2-8) at BMO Field on Saturday, August 23 with kickoff slated for 3:00 p.m. EDT. The Lions are coming off a 36-18 win over the Montreal Alouettes, while the Argonauts lost 28-20 against the Edmonton Elks.

I think anyone with a hot mic immediately loses 20 IQ points. It's not just Suitor.
And that was a quick turn around.

Or at the start of the game when Lapo said tempo over and over again.

Yes, he impresses me more with every game, I'd trade Zach for him without hesitation if the Argos would throw Dinwiddie in with the deal. Left on his own without guidance, he probably wouldn't do very well.
bc marches for a fg...imagine had they even tried to move the ball and score at the end of the first??
who has the worst pass defence - Bombers or BC?

I don't know. He's leading a Grey Cup roster to a 2-8 record.

Maybe BC does have the worst pass defence
Until the next series lol
Yes, this guy is perfectly capable of playing some good ball as a QB. It doesn't look like such a fluke now that he beat us in the Grey Cup.
"when i retire and turn 75 i want to get a job holding the yard markers in the cfl."
maybe not ...hope the fellow is ok
once a game Rourke does that
Oh my god, BC.
Rourke ran a 4.7 40 on his pro day
He looks faster than that

I'd fire Benevides at the conclusion of this game.
holy head snap - wicked hit by mcmanis

BC playing a 4 American O line...Woodruff brain dead in that sack and fumble
BC's run defense might be worse than their secondary
Doesnt say a lot about the lions when you see them just give up. The leadership on this team esp defense has been an issue for several years
great win by the argos!!!
Benevides should go straight to the office and start cleaning out his desk, then send an email to Mr. Doman apologizing for the state of the Lion's defense. If he's not embarrassed after today's performance giving up +50 points to a 2 win team then the man has no pride.
Giving up 52 points going into their bye. That's going to bite. Argos did the Bombers a solid.
The failed Masoli sneak on 2nd down in the 3rd: I'm nearly positive he wasn't touched, so not DBC. That's why he crawled on the ground to get the TD reach. I think it was a TD.
The only touch that might have occurred is the very last second at the GL just before he got that ball across. I'll have to re-check later. I'm hoping command was looking into it ("potential score") during the long Cottoy injury timeout.
Doesn't matter, as Butler did the flying TD on 3rd... but this is not the first time this year refs have mistaken friendly-fire tripping as an opponent-touch and DBC.
Quote from: The Zipp on August 23, 2025, 08:27:20 PMsurprised Buck Didn't try to get that into FG range.
Completely shameful. You have Rourke and all the REC weapons and like 38s and you don't try for a few shots? Maybe Buck learned that from MOS, the king of conservative play calling in this situation.
Quote from: markf on August 23, 2025, 08:26:25 PMIs Arbuckle slowly turning into a decent starter?
No. He is a 0.500 backup on a decent team. So, basically a Strev who can throw instead of run.
If you had a league-top team, Arbuckle would be good, sure. Put Arbuckle in SSK and he'd do well right now. My favorite analogy is he's a lot like Matt Nichols, though Matty was better on the deep ball before his Lemonation.
Someone else mentioned the OC/HC... ya, Arbuckle also needs an OC who is tailoring things just for him. Basically a genius QB Whisperer is required.
Quote from: J5V on August 23, 2025, 09:27:04 PMYes, this guy is perfectly capable of playing some good ball as a QB. It doesn't look like such a fluke now that he beat us in the Grey Cup.
That's recency bias. Only because he's looking good in this game are people saying this. He's been pretty darn useless most of this season. Keep in mind he lost a game to us when we were sucking badly with bad DBs. His record this season is horrible.
Sure, his team is crap too, but the top QBs will lift your team up into wins. He didn't win the GC, their D did and their razor-claws DL did. The more I see TOR play this season the more I think we win that cup if Zach doesn't get hurt. It was still close, even though we were being outplayed. We would have found a way.
The key tell will be once the QB injury situation is settled Arbuckle will not be starting anywhere. But clearly he'll be valued as a backup. I'm not sure TOR will let him walk.
Quote from: The Zipp on August 23, 2025, 09:31:21 PM"when i retire and turn 75 i want to get a job holding the yard markers in the cfl."
That's why they're trained to drop that sucker and run for the hills the first sign of anyone coming their way. Not sure why he was still standing there... guess at 75 your reaction time is impaired...
It's often the camera or mic guy getting creamed because they mostly hold their position.
Quote from: Jesse on August 23, 2025, 09:37:46 PMOh my god, BC.
I'm at this play and it's just nuts. BC has been torched deep most of the game so what does BC do? Leave guys wide open deep trying to stop the short game.
Yes, I can officially say BC's DBs in this game are worse than even our crap DBs at their worst. Even Bridges/Bonds didn't give up this many easy deep shots in one game. We were mad when they'd give up 2-3 a game, and those usually weren't TDs!
Maybe try following the RECs deep after this play!
P.S. Anyone taking the under was crying by half time. This will be the highest scoring game of the year I bet. I think BC has 2 more TDs in them, TOR might have 1.
Quote from: The Zipp on August 23, 2025, 09:57:22 PMrourke just wants to go home
"I'm just here to show my pretty face and get my Magic Marketing Money!" "I'm not supposed to get hit like this."
Who's this Brown guy for TOR? For some reason I was confusing him on the chart (which doesn't show first names) with (I think) Kevin Brown, the ex-EDM wunderkind?
Too many RBs named Brown.
P.S. I don't see how you ever start MacMahHon ever again with this kid actually looking capable. All of a sudden TOR has a running game? And Kelly coming back eventually? Could be a tough team to beat. Luckily for us, we've already played them.
Quote from: The Zipp on August 23, 2025, 10:07:05 PMgreat win by the argos!!!
Definitely helps us. And no worries about the pickems, because almost everyone picked BC!
Quote from: bunker on August 23, 2025, 10:04:00 PMBC's run defense might be worse than their secondary
They were always suspect. They focus too much on pass rush (cough cough Betts).
However, give BC a bit of a break, they were badly losing the TOP in 2nd, 3rd and most of 4th Q.
Quote from: markf on August 23, 2025, 08:26:25 PMIs Arbuckle slowly turning into a decent starter?
He looked pretty decent tonight.

Do we still miss Ryan Ringmaiden?
Lions awful defence is not just bad coaching.
At our worst, I haven't seen players just quitting during games.
Quote from: markf on August 24, 2025, 01:55:15 PMDo we still miss Ryan Ringmaiden?
Hmmm. If he's still in BC, that's a darn good question.
He doesn't seem to have found any great ELCs this season, eh? Not much last season either? But didn't he find the "2 H's": that counts for a lot, even if not this season.
If ever a team was over-SMS and needed to scout top ELCs to balance the budget, it's BC.
