Edmonton Elks lose punter Cody Grace to six-game injured list
By 3Down Staff -August 14, 2025

The Edmonton Elks will be without punter Cody Grace long-term after he was placed on the six-game injured list ahead of Friday's matchup with the Toronto Argonauts.

The Australian specialist was a non-participant in practice this week due to a knee injury. He has been the league's busiest punter since joining the team in free agency, booting the ball 54 times for a gross average of 48.9 yards, three rouges, and two kicks placed inside the 10-yard line.

Grace has appeared in 74 career CFL games, punting 438 times for a gross average of 47.0 yards per. He is a two-time West Division all-star and earned an All-CFL selection in 2022.

The Elks have elected not to directly replace Grace, despite the addition of fellow Global punter Ethan Duane to the practice roster earlier this week. Canadian kicker Vincent Blanchard will instead pull double duty for the first time in his career. It is unclear who will perform holding duties for the team, though backup quarterbacks Tre Ford and Cole Snyder seem likely candidates.

In positive news, Friday will mark the return of Canadian safety Royce Metchie after a four-game hiatus due to an ankle injury. American Kenneth Logan Jr. has been bumped out of the starting lineup to accommodate the veteran, though he remains on the roster.

Also drawing in this week are Global linebacker Eteva Mauga-Clements and Canadian fullback Jacob Plamondon. Canadian linebacker Josiah Schakel will be a healthy scratch, while Canadian defensive back Jerrell Cummings returns to the practice roster.

The Edmonton Elks (2-6) will host the Toronto Argonauts (2-7) at Commonwealth Stadium on Friday, August 15 with kickoff slated for 9:00 p.m. EDT. The Argonauts are coming off a 46-42 loss to the Ottawa Redblacks, while the Elks completed a comeback win over the Montreal Alouettes at Percival Molson Stadium.

The weather forecast in Edmonton calls for a high of 13 degrees with cloudy conditions and a 40 percent chance of rain. The game will be broadcast on TSN in Canada and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune-in on TSN 1050 in Toronto and 880 CHED in Edmonton.

Toronto Argonauts scratch struggling left tackle George Moore vs. Elks
By 3Down Staff -August 14, 2025

The Toronto Argonauts will be making a significant change along the offensive line for their Week 11 matchup with the Edmonton Elks.

Left tackle George Moore will be a healthy scratch after protecting Nick Arbuckle's blindside for the first nine games of the season. The second-year man out of Oregon has been a weak spot on a Toronto front that has allowed 23 sacks — second most in the CFL. ProFootballFocus, which has yet to update its stats from Week 10, credited him with 24 pressures allowed through eight games, good enough for second-worst among tackles.

Moore will be released by fellow American Brandon Kemp, who was signed last week. The six-foot-seven, 310-pound blocker has previously been a member of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, dressing for 13 games with the team. He most recently attended training camp with the Saskatchewan Roughriders earlier this season but was released as part of the final cuts.

Also making his Toronto debut is veteran strong-side linebacker Branden Dozier, who was signed earlier this week after beginning the year with the Ticats. He'll bump Canadian Tyshon Blackburn back to backup safety, while fellow national Jonathan Edouard balances the ratio by making his first start of the year at field cornerback. Tarvarus McFadden moves to field halfback, while Mark Milton drops off the roster as a healthy scratch.

CFL-leading receiver Damonte Coxie is expected to play, but has been listed as a game-time decision after missing Tuesday's practice with a shoulder injury. Rookie running back Spencer Brown, who was recently acquired via trade from Edmonton, will dress in a depth capacity.

The Toronto Argonauts (2-7) will visit the Edmonton Elks (2-6) at Commonwealth Stadium on Friday, August 15 with kickoff slated for 9:00 p.m. EDT. The Argonauts are coming off a 46-42 loss to the Ottawa Redblacks, while the Elks completed a comeback win over the Montreal Alouettes at Percival Molson Stadium.

The weather forecast in Edmonton calls for a high of 14 degrees with cloudy conditions and a 40 percent chance of showers. The game will be broadcast on TSN in Canada and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune-in on TSN 1050 in Toronto and 880 CHED in Edmonton.

Should be a good game.  Both O's sputtering.  EDM has no RECs.  TOR's QB isn't great -- ultimate game manager/loser.  EDM's D is still better.

Will Brown try to "get his old team back"?  Stupid fantasy didn't even put him in as an option!

Haha, Arbuckle is their season top rusher.  LOL

TOR used to be a ground pounding team.  Always pass-first, but still balanced in enough run to keep you honest.

Laborn was useless.  MacMaHan isn't great.  OL is stinky.  Brown is dressed but not sure he'll be used.  They should let him run free on his old team, just to see.

Even once Kelly comes back, you still need a half-legit run game to get to and win a cup.  MTL is another team with a questionable run game...  HAM is the only East team even trying?

Now a TD to Coxie or Brissett please!  Surely this game can't go a whole half without a TD?

That's the low leg hit they made illegal this season.  Maybe they'll say it's above the knee.

The idea is don't cripple receivers while catching.

Edit: We've seen this hit a few times and it can cripple RECs too.  I think the rule needs to be higher.  That hit can still cripple.  Maybe it should be illegal = "below the balls".

The new "knees or below" rule is actually useless and stupid because it's nearly impossible to launch yourself that low with force!  So it will basically never happen!

The idea was to get DBs to adjust their behavior to avoid injury.  In reality it's not really doing anything.

I think this penalty has been called once this season?

If you want to stop the injury, the illegal hit area needs to be raised.

That hit/fall on Cody was exactly the same hit that ruined Matt Nichols arm (the Lemonation).  That could ruin Cody's throwing arm.  The saving grace here is Cody didn't have a 300 lb Lemon landing on top of him.

Let's see if Cody is out the remainder...

That Mital tackle also was a low hit, just above the knees so uncalled.  I wonder if that's the same EDM DB doing that both times.

Cody wincing begins!  No pressure now Cody, you have your infamous excuse to lose in the bag!  Maybe obliques?

Slywka reminds me of Loffler.  Boom!  I see some penalties in his future.

Teams that keep their starting QB in for SY are dumb (unless it's on purpose for tempo O).  Like Ford wouldn't make a good SY guy??  Talk about triple threat.

Ya, Grant was a slight balance issue away from a huge TD return in this game.

P.S. That's the exactly same thing that happened to Vaval who was totally supposed to fall over in his big KR TD and yet he found a way to regain balance.

Honestly impressed with Haggerty on that.  May have panicked too early as he may have been able to get the punt off (we will see in the replays), but after that the pump fake sure bought him time, and he never panicked again as he made a (lame for QB, impressive for punter) completion.

I've noticed ... different games, refs making calls where it was unlikely, or impossible they could see anything from where they are on the field.

Even things like whether a third and short yardage called first down by a fuy who was ten yards behind the line of scrimmage offence side.

Does command even ask the ref who was standing literally right there staring at that left hand?

Remember the completely bogus DPI on Ford vs SSK last season, and the likewise non-DPI on Demski vs TOR?  Weren't both challenged, both field calls were 100% wrong, and command upholds both?

What the heck is command doing this season?  It's like they've once again completely changed the 2024 standard ("clear and obvious" = "overturn nothing") into "we'll overturn a lot more now".  And they have been overturning many things that would stand last season.

I would expect the quality of officiating this weekend to be subpar. There are 2 full crews of officials in the US this weekend attending NFL training camps as part of the officiating development program.

Re: the UR penalty on Herslow
When Herslow attempted to hurdle the Elks player he led with his foot out (cleats first) and it appeared to make contact with an Elks player. This is just an educated guess on my behalf. If true, it is a reasonable penalty as it is a dangerous act.

If that's it, then that would make hurdling too risky to ever attempt, no?  That would mean all team B needs to do to get a UR on every hurdle is to get a body part (arm enough?) up in the path of the hurdler.

You could only hurdle AFTER you saw the DB going low on you.  You couldn't anticipate ahead of time.

Also, this would be the first time I've ever seen this (in a decade of watching).

When someone gets a link to the post-game, please post here.

Nothing on the TOR site yet.

Funny thing is he contacted the kicker returning the ball!  :D

Still no post-game on Argos or CFL site.  Why isn't there a central place for these things?  They are so hard to find and teams often hide them away, never post them, or only post them until the next morning!!

I'll hand it to WPG, we suck on the web site with depth charts, but we are great at getting post-games up quickly.

SC just showed a bit of the Dinwiddie post-game and he seems strangely calm.  No Full Kavis.  A big letdown!  I wanted blown Kenwood headsets, physical beatings of players, and spittle-filled Kavis rants.

Riderfans think they caught a Suits S-bomb.  At 2h40m19s as they go to commercial he says on hot mic "totally sh...".  So maybe, maybe not.  Not sure what other words he could be saying?  "Totally shocking play"?  Who knows.

P.S. Better get Dinwiddie Maas's Kenwood headset repairman on speed dial after this game
