CFL sack leader Andrew Chatfield game-time decision for Toronto Argonauts against Ottawa
By 3Down Staff -August 8, 2025

The Toronto Argonauts are getting some key pieces back for Saturday's clash with the Ottawa Redblacks, but one of the breakout stars of 2025 remains on the fence.

The team has listed defensive end Andrew Chatfield as a game-time decision after he was limited in practice on Thursday with a knee injury. The 26-year-old, who was acquired via trade from Ottawa this offseason, currently leads the CFL with six sacks through eight games. He has also recorded 27 defensive tackles.

Losing Chatfield would be a big blow to Toronto's pass rush, but the defence is guaranteed to get some other young contributors back. Dynamic rookie safety Derek Slywka returns to the lineup following a one-game absence and bumps Canadian Tyshon Blackburn back to strong-side linebacker after Jarrett Martin was released.

Backup linebacker and special-teams demon Jack Cassar could be an even more impactful addition after the Argos surrendered two kick-return scores last week. 2025 first-round pick Jeremiah Ojo should also beef up that unit, prompting Canadian linebacker Stephen Smith and American defensive tackle Ricky Correia to be placed on the practice roster.

Offensively, fullback Felix Garand-Gauthier will make his Toronto debut and bump Brandon Calver off the roster. American Jake Herslow will draw in as the team's extra receiver after the release of Hergy Mayala.

The Toronto Argonauts (2-6) will host the Ottawa Redblacks (2-6) on Saturday, August 9 with kickoff slated for 3:00 p.m. EDT. The Redblacks bested the Stampeders 31-11 this past week, while the Argonauts narrowly lost to the Blue Bombers in Winnipeg.

The weather forecast in Toronto calls for a high of 32 degrees with a 20 percent chance of showers. The game will be broadcast on TSN, RDS, and CTV in Canada, CBS Sports Network in the United States, and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune in on TSN 1200 in Ottawa and TSN 1050 in Toronto.

Canadian LB Lucas Cormier out for Ottawa Redblacks' clash with Toronto
By 3Down Staff -August 8, 2025

The Ottawa Redblacks will have a different look in the linebacking corps for Saturday's game against the Toronto Argonauts.

Canadian Lucas Cormier, who has started the last three games at weak-side linebacker, has been placed on the one-game injured list with a quad issue. That native of Sackville, N.B. has recorded 14 defensive tackles and two special teams tackles in five games this year, providing the team with important ratio flexibility.

American Frankie Griffin will step back into the starting role after returning to the lineup last week, having amassed 11 defensive tackles and a forced fumble in three starts earlier this year. Former NFL third-round pick Davion Taylor returns from an extended absence to back him up, having last played in Week 2 due to an ankle injury.

To comply with the ratio, the Redblacks will start two Canadian defensive tackles in Daniel Okpoko and Cleyon Laing, who is expected to return from a knee injury. The 34-year-old veteran is still listed as a game-time decision, as are starting safety Bennett Williams (hamstring) and backup defensive back Robert Priester (undisclosed).

Offensively, Canadian right tackle Zack Pelehos has been placed back on the six-game injured list after exiting early last week with a foot injury that has plagued him since training camp. Rookie American Parker Moorer will start in his stead.

The Ottawa Redblacks (2-6) will visit the Toronto Argonauts (2-6) on Saturday, August 9 with kickoff slated for 3:00 p.m.

Radio listeners can tune-in on TSN 1200 in Ottawa and TSN 1050 in Toronto.

Nice ceremony for Nick Volpe and Chris Schultz at the start of this game. It certainly means a great deal to the fans and family of these alumni. I'm sure many of us remember Schutlzie and what a great player and gentleman he was before, during and after his playing career. Gotta love the CFL culture!

Lots of blocking by Argo receivers on the "long handoff " quick pass.

Our guys do not block for whatever reason. Makes that play, which should work well, ineffective for us.

Hope we see. Change there.

lol Argo fans going all out with their costumes... "not"

showed a Guy who had  a cardboard mask cut out of a cereal box 😂

I haven't seen any update.

This is Ottawa's:

ROSTER UPDATE: @REDBLACKS 🇺🇸 DB Bennett Williams (hamstring) is OUT for today's game.

🇨🇦 DB Justin Howell will start at safety. 🇨🇦 DB King Ambers will dress.

What a disaster.

they are a mystery - would they be better with different / better coaching?

game is far from over but you have Gino and what we think is a decent QB..

Dru Brown is miles ahead of Zach.  Management needs to be changed for that decision alone.

Well done, Gino with the nice catch at the back of the end zone.

I'd love to see the RBs complete the comeback in this one.

I can find nowhere where McMahon is pronounced as "Mack-Ma-Hawn". Every reference I see online has it pronounced as "Mick-Man". Why does the CFL insist on pronouncing it "Mack-Ma-Hawn"?

My guess... he made a point of demanding they pronounce it that way.

Wonder how he'd make out in Scotland with that, lol.

Broke his leg at the end of 2024 in a playoff game IIRC. May have been some ligament issues as well. I think they mentioned that he might not play in 2025 the way things are going and his set back. They didn't call it a setback but he spent the 1st 6 or 7 games on the 1 game IR and then bumped him to 6 game IR.

That must have cost them some serious SMS in not putting him on the 6 game to start the season.

Did they put the metal plate & screws in to fix the break?  Docs can screw that up (haha pun).  If they take it out it can have issues after.  He might spend the rest of his life with metal in there.  Had a buddy shatter his lower leg, had all that.

All depends on how bad the break was.

Oh ya, and it was on a scramble/run  :D  :D  :D  See, running QBs get creamed, I don't care what the stats say!  Zach will never take an injury like that standing in the pocket!!

This game shows why you don't start going for 2PAT so early in the game.  Both teams got into a "we must get 2PAT!" rut and got completely stuck there!  I think by the end each team had lost 2-3 pts by not taking the kick instead.

I think each team went for 2PAT 3-4 times and each team got it once?  (Or maybe 1 team got it twice?)

MOS would never make that mistake.  And now we see why.

Coxie a massive complete bust for fantasy players.  4 points this week vs 40 last week.  A lot of us got suckered into taking him.

Just like Kenny after his 44 point game!  Nada every week since.

I was watching what they were doing to Coxie and it was just like Kenny: double coverage all night.  I guess that's why so many other TOR RECs were wide open making OTT DBs look foolish.

Tough to know when to pick the superstars for fantasy, or know when a team will just double them.  I guess some teams believe in blanketing the star, and others (like us) just play "normal ball".  I guess that's why Coxie smoked us for 200Y and 3TD!

The crazy thing is, a last minute play here or there and you'd be 4-4. Unreal lead changes this week, big leads evaporated in Ottawa (21 point behind) and Calgary games (17 points behind)?no lead is safe in any game
