Hamilton Tiger-Cats keep roster consistent amid five-game winning streak
By 3Down Staff -August 1, 2025
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have made no changes to their roster heading into Saturday's game against the Edmonton Elks.
Bo Levi Mitchell, arguably the current front-runner to win CFL Most Outstanding Player, will be under centre as he looks to improve upon his production this year. The 35-year-old has thrown for 2,201 yards, 15 touchdowns, and three interceptions through seven games, putting him on pace to set new career-highs in passing yards and passing touchdowns.
As a team, the Tiger-Cats currently rank first in point per game, fourth in net offence, first in passing yards, eighth in rushing yards, and second in turnover ratio. Defensively, the club ranks fifth in points allowed, third in net offence allowed, fourth in passing yards allowed, and fourth in rushing yards allowed.
The Elks have made a number of changes to their roster for this week's game, all of which can be found here.
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats (5-2) will visit the Edmonton Elks (1-5) at Commonwealth Stadium on Saturday, August 2 with kickoff slated for 3:00 p.m. EDT. The Tiger-Cats are coming off a 37-33 come-from-behind win over the B.C. Lions, while the Elks allowed eight sacks in a 21-18 loss to the Roughriders in Regina.
The weather forecast in Edmonton calls for a high of 29 degrees with a 30 percent chance of rain. The game will be broadcast on TSN and CTV in Canada and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune-in on Ticats Audio Network in Hamilton and 880 CHED in Edmonton.

First-overall CFL draft pick Joel Dublanko to make first start for Edmonton Elks
By 3Down Staff -August 1, 2025
Joel Dublanko will make his first career CFL start on Saturday afternoon when the Edmonton Elks host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
The six-foot-two, 231-pound defender was the first overall pick in the 2024 CFL Draft out of the University of Cincinnati after qualifying for Canadian citizenship through his father, who was born in Edmonton. He has recorded seven defensive tackles and 10 special teams tackles over 24 career regular-season games.
The 27-year-old will start at weak-side linebacker in place of Nick Anderson, who has been placed on the six-game injured list. The 25-year-old has appeared in all six games for Edmonton this year, recording 39 defensive tackles and one sack.
Robbie Smith, the highest-paid defensive player in the CFL, will return from injury to start at defensive end. The 28-year-old native of Brampton, Ont. has recorded eight defensive tackles over four games so far this year.
The Elks have also moved Canadian receiver Zach Mathis and Canadian linebacker Michael Brodrique to the six-game injured list. Bryce Cosby, who was signed recently signed by the team, has been placed on the practice roster.
Rookie receiver Binjimen Victor will start at field-side wide receiver in place of Mathis. The six-foot-four, 200-pound native of Pompano Beach, Fla. has caught one pass for four yards in three games for far this season.

14-14 at halftime. It should be a much higher scoring game.
QBs are a combined 27/30 passing. A high completion percentage doesn't necessarily equate to efficient offence. In this case it is boring.
Last week Fajardo & Harris combined for ~ 80% and there were 18 punts in the game.
Edmonton is once again showing that running a short yardage offence isn't as easy as it seems.
Farhan is having a rough game. He has called the wrong name several times now.

Is this his first game? I don't believe I've seen/heard him call a game before.

Definitely not his first, but he's not often called in.
Lightning delay :'(
Fajardo is 16 / 16 passing. Impressive even though the game is tied.
BLM is 24 / 30 passing.
So 40 of 46 combined completions by both QB', 501 yards. That's hard to do even in practice.

"Da players will go to da locker room for lightning". Nasty looking storm clouds.
Hamilton without their long snapper is affecting their 3rd down decisions.
Here is an example of what can happen when forced to use a backup long snapper.
Milt looking like he's in pain listening to Kate asking which team will be most impacted by the delay. lol

poor Faj..throws a perfect ball in the end zone and julien-grant drops it

That's why they are where they are. Not enough playmakers.
Tough loss for Edmonton on a bad drop. Perfect throw from Fajardo. Good for us in our fight to stay ahead of BC and Edmonton.

Gutting out that win last night is going to do a lot for our team psyche going forward. Hopefully it's the start of a roll for us. It was at about this point in the season last year that we went on a 10 game heater.

He has dropped more than his fair share of passes this year, but that definitely was the biggest, cost them the game
bet they wish they had spent the money on Eugene lewis rather than Robbie smith
I'm at the end of 3Q, and I'm wondering, has Milanovitch gone mental? What's with the weird gambles and BLM punting? Are they trying to lose by "going against the book" so much?
Does he not trust the his D? That one guy they lost is that important??
Also, HAM D thought they could mail this in? They are tackling like we did last week. And the HAM OL is having issues protecting BLM? What's up with that? Did the lineup change this week? They were much better in prior weeks.
What a weird game. And now one batch of dark clouds in an otherwise blue sky. Well, they did say it was a scorcher... always a storm risk. I only set the PVR for the normal 3 hrs though, so I'm going to have to wait for the replay and probably get spoilers when I start watching the SSK game. Grrrrr.

Well that explains a bit of the strange HCing.
They don't carry a backup or emergency LS like we usually do? We usually have a very competent dressed one. It should be a cliff and total disaster for a team, otherwise they didn't shape their AR correctly.

Ah, no ending to the clip? Did we win?? My son is stoke to find out and this clip leaves us hanging! (LOL MOS as the LS...)
If you placekick, do you not have to follow the illegal-punt-OOB rules? Or was there no IPOOB rule back then?
That's a strange quirk to the rules if you can PK directly OOB but can't punt it. You'd think you could find a way to take advantage of this exception in certain game situations.

Unless I am mistaken this was week 17, 1999. A Bomber win. 18-13 final

Woot! 13-4 at the start of the clip. A great clawback win.

Nah, looks good on him. No matter what he does, I'll never like the guy. If he ever suits up in blue & gold, I may have to quit!
Ya, that's mean & rough. Oh well. I'm entitled to dislike 2 QBs (guess who my other one is...).
That said, he's better than Ford! EDM gave HAM a huge scare there. That would have been the upset of the week.

Who do we have on the AR that is our back up LS? I think Novak has some experience but he's injured now.

The final score was 18-13 for Winnipeg. It took a 94 yard TD pass from Kerwin Bell to Nigel Williams with 36 seconds left on the clock to put Winnipeg ahead.
The penalty for a punt OB is a relatively new rule. A FG attempt that fails to score is treated as a punt which means the penalty for Illegal Punt OB would apply today.

Ya ones arrogant as heck, but why do you guys hate fajardo so much?? His past days as a rider?? Both these guys are top performers right now, with fajardo coming on the FA market next off season, and he may be coming here!!

I don't hate him, I just don't like him. Too much of a drama queen for my liking.

He's just as arrogant. It's always "me, me, me" when he's doing well and "they, them" when he's struggling.

He must have also been the guy who stepped in when Rempel got Rempel-ruled onto the 6G.
I knew we had a decent LS backup. MOS wouldn't leave us exposed like what happened in this game. Thanks for naming the name.

You know it. Though, strangely, I'd be fine with him joining TSN. With no QB on it now, I think BLM is a shoe-in. He's gotta stop playing first though. :D

- Rider
- Jesus Sprinkles (nothing against Jesus, just don't like the sprinkles)
- Writhing king
- Fake oblique hysteria, dude was 100% fine going into that playoff
- Rider
- He's thicker than a wall of bricks, just so airheaded in all interviews, yet he thinks he's (or tries to act) smart
- Always talks about how hurt he is so he has an "out" should he lose a game (see also: Dickenson The Lesser -- his mentor)
- Miffed he really lucked out on the 2rd & 17 and the 3rd & 3 to beat us
- Rider
Did I mention he's an ex-Rider?

In 2019 it was Thomas Miles who was the in game emergency long snapper. He took over both times Rempel left with an injury.
Tui Eli lined up as the long snapper for one FG formation. Holder Chris Streveler then moved up under centre and did a QB sneak for a 1st down.
Maxime Latour did the long snapping in the games that Rempel missed.

Great names from the past! Thanks for that. The Eli/Strev play I have to dig up and watch again, that sounds epic.
