Canadian RB Jeshrun Antwi returns for Calgary Stampeders against Alouettes

The Calgary Stampeders will have Canadian running back Jeshrun Antwi back in the lineup when they host the Montreal Alouettes on Thursday night.
The 27-year-old has missed the team's last three games due to an ankle injury. He filled a depth role behind Dedrick Mills over Calgary's first three games of the regular season, rushing nine times for 30 yards.
The University of Calgary product joined the Stampeders as a free agent in February after four seasons with the Montreal Alouettes and B.C. Lions, winning a Grey Cup in 2023. The six-foot, 210-pound ball-carrier has rushed for 1,128 yards and one touchdown over 56 career regular-season CFL games.
Benjamin Labrosse, the team's first-round pick in the 2024 CFL Draft, will also return to the lineup after missing two games due to injury. He will be the second-string field-side cornerback behind fellow Canadian defender Adrian Greene, who has three interceptions so far this season.
Veteran fullback William Langlais will also reenter the lineup, while rookie linebacker Morice Blackwell Jr. will dress for his first career game. Canadian running back Ludovick Choquette was moved to the practice roster, while Canadian offensive lineman Tomas Jack-Kurdyla, American defensive lineman Kelechi Anyalebechi, and Canadian defensive back Jackson Sombach were moved to injured reserve.
The Calgary Stampeders (5-1) will host the Montreal Alouettes (4-2) at McMahon Stadium on Thursday, July 24 with kickoff slated for 9:00 p.m. EDT. The Alouettes are coming off a come-from-behind win over the Toronto Argonauts, while the Stampeders blew out the Winnipeg Blue Bombers last week.
The weather forecast calls for a high of 26 degrees and mostly sunny conditions. The game will be broadcast on TSN and RDS in Canada, CBS Sports Network in the United States, and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune-in on TSN 690 in Montreal and 770 CHQR in Calgary.

The Montreal Alouettes will have more than just changes at quarterback when they visit the Calgary Stampeders on Thursday.
McLeod Bethel-Thompson will make his third start of the season in place of the injured Davis Alexander, but the 37-year-old won't have a full complement of weapons to throw to. Canadian receiver Tyson Philpot (hamstring) will sit out again after being named a game-time scratch last week, while rookie Hakeem Harris has been demoted to the practice roster. That leaves Daniel Oladejo to make his first career start, having made just four catches for 38 yards in three CFL seasons.
Special teams will also suffer a big blow with returner James Letcher Jr., who sits second in the CFL in kickoff average, added to the one-game injured list with a fractured hand. Recently signed rookie receiver Lincln Victor will split return duties with backup running back Travis Theis.
Defensively, the team will get a boost from the return of cornerback Lorenzo Burns, who recorded 19 defensive tackles and an interception in the first four games of the season prior to suffering a shoulder injury. Dionte Ruffin will move to field halfback as a result, while Robert Kennedy has been returned to the practice roster.
The Alouettes will not have the services of depth contributors like Canadian defensive end Josh Archibald (adductor) and American linebacker K.D. Davis (illness), as both have been placed on the one-game injured list. American defensive end M.J. Sherman draws into the lineup, while Canadian safety Scott Hutter and Canadian linebacker Riley MacLeod each make their debuts for Montreal. Quarterback James Morgan will also dress as the third stringer.

I agree. It was a catch and a fumble from all the angles we could see. He was not going down when he caught the ball.

On the bright side, basically everyone picked CGY, so there will be no real change in the pickems.

Ya, this call was badly botched. There is NO "survive contact" when the REC
wasn't jumping, in the air, or diving. Sure, at the end he was "going down", but that's because he was getting low-tackled when trying to take off (and injured).
I don't even think it's a fumble, I think the ball came out when his elbow/forearm hit the turf. And it doesn't even matter, since he recovered it himself.
It was a normal standing catch, clearly secure with zero bobbles as he turns to run, tacklers bring him down, and the ball pops out when his arm hits the turf.
In the end it didn't matter that it was a "homer call", but with auto review command really needs to get these right. I think we're owed a memo during the week to explain this one...

VAJ is half the puzzle. Their D is vastly improved though. And their REC corps is superb compared to last year. Oh ya, and when that normal RT is in I think they are the best OL. Miles above ours.
Those over-6'2 RECs (3 of them? 4?) are making a huge difference. That Alford guy is money, and costs them nothing. If he's hammy-IR it could put a dent in their points-for.
That's the problem with over 6'4 RECs: they get hurt all the time in weird ways. Their bodies just break. Think Eric Rogers.

It is when other teams are fielding taller DBs. And it's even worse when our shorter DBs (we never hire on height for DBs) are 5 to 10" shorter than opponent RECs.
AND even worse than that when their tall RECs are stocky/heavy and can just out-muscle body-block the DBs and catch in front of them, like Eric Rogers always used to do to us.
VAJ looked concussed and messed up ankle (from the 1st half). However, he looked no worse than Zach with his last hit, so he'll probably be back. If he takes 1-3 games off (which CGY can afford to do), then that will really help us keep pace in the W.
The number 1 and 2 Ds battling it out was nice to watch. I don't think Walker is the answer if VA is out for an extended period of time.

I feel like that's more narrative than what we've seen to be true. This year has been a struggle so we're trying to find reasons, but going back many seasons, we've always had an elite pass defence and our DBs weren't any bigger.
And this conversation was about our receivers, and Calgary fielding multiple guys 5'9" and shorter who played critical roles in the game. We're trying to find easy solutions to difficult problems but this ain't it, imo.
Montreal is better than we are, even with their backup QB.
If Toronto can hang with Montreal for the whole game, then they are much better than their record.

Ya, no poop. Add in to that that these 2 games are kind of "must win" for TOR. They ar falling so far behind in the East when they probably would be #1 (certainly #2) with Kelly.
TOR will be whipping them up into a frenzy for this one and I expect them to smash us in the mouth from play 1. Sure, we could try to smash back, but we have no morale and no momentum.
I think if we're extremely lucky (or find solutions) we can win the @home game, but this away game may be a bridge too far.
Vegas has picked WPG to win handily, if you're into that sort of thing... I guess it'll take another 2 losses in 3 games for Vegas to realize we suck.

McInnis and Cottoy were probably the biggest "famous" ones, and we figured them out (because they aren't that good and basically run the same 3 routes over and over). That other tall guy in CGY Jones wasn't being used right. And Rhymes was somewhere else and neutered (looked done, really).
Hmm, maybe it's not so much the RECs are giants as Dave Dickeson really knows how to utilize a big body and the other teams don't? But now it's like he has 3 Eric Rogers all starting. It's going to be tough to defeat when VAJ is slinging it.
As for DBs, short or otherwise, the main problem is if you have just one struggling, your whole D game is doomed. Because smart OCs will send every mid/deep shot that direction.
We did much better in previous years because our worst DB was still ok. Even Bonds early in '24 was doing better than Bridges, and he wasn't exactly great. Still isn't.

Schoen's style reminds me alot of Rocky Dipietro , catches everything in and around his body, in close contact of others, but rarely catches anything outside his arms length...diving/laying out for passes is not in their DNA
