Toronto Argonauts without OL Darius Ciraco for matchup with Calgary
By 3Down Staff -June 13, 2025
The Toronto Argonauts' beleaguered offensive line will be without starting centre Darius Ciraco for Saturday's clash with the Calgary Stampeders.
The 29-year-old has been placed on the one-game injured list after suffering a foot injury early last week. Peter Nicastro will get the start in his place, reuniting a starting five that allowed three sacks and relentless pressure in the opener. John Bosse will also dress for depth.
Also placed on the one-game injured list is strong-side linebacker Donald Rutledge (head), who made four tackles in his return to the CFL after a two-year hiatus. Kenneth George Jr. will take over the position after playing both halfback and corner last season while splitting time between Hamilton and Toronto.
Canadian linebacker Daniel Kwamou (knee) will also sit out this week, and Global defensive end Thiadric Hansen (back) is listed as a game-time decision. American pass rusher Celestin Haba draws into the lineup, as does Canadian receiver Hergy Mayala in a depth capacity.
Finally, the Argos have demoted returner Calvin Turner Jr. to the practice roster. With Janarion Grant still out with an ankle problem, it is unclear who will handle return duties.
The Toronto Argonauts (0-1) will host the Calgary Stampeders (1-0) at BMO Field on Saturday, June 14 with kickoff slated for 4:00 p.m. EDT.

Calgary Stampeders officially demote former first-round CFL Draft pick DB Ben Labrosse vs. Argos
By 3Down Staff -June 13, 2025
The Calgary Stampeders have made several changes to their Week 2 lineup due to injury, but one alteration to the starting defence comes without explanation.
Sophomore prospect Ben Labrosse has been officially demoted from his field-side corner spot in favour of fellow Canadian Adrian Greene, who came over from the B.C. Lions in free agency. Labrosse was selected fourth overall by Calgary in the 2024 CFL Draft and logged 34 defensive tackles as a rookie while starting primarily at halfback, but was held off the stat sheet after being listed as the top corner in the opener. Greene logged four defensive tackles in his Stampeders debut and played the majority of the game despite what the depth chart said.
Despite Labrosse's apparent demotion, it could be a big day for some of Calgary's other first-rounders. 2024 eighth-overall pick Christy Nkanu is already starting at right guard and could be joined by this year's eighth-overall pick, Christopher Fortin, at centre, as Bryce Bell (shoulder) is listed as a game-time decision. 2025 first-overall selection Damien Alford will also dress for the very first time as a backup receiver.
Only one of Calgary's opening-day starters will sit out due to injury, as defensive tackle Miles Brown (shoulder) is on the one-game injured list and will be replaced by Josiah Coatney. Rotational linebacker Gary Johnson Jr. (pectoral) has been moved to the one-game injured list and replaced by rookie Kelechi Anyalebechi, while defensive end Cedric Wilcots II has been placed on the practice roster in favour of Shaun Peterson.
Offensively, Tomas Jack-Kurdyla draws in as the seventh offensive lineman, while fullback William Langlais (back) has been moved to the one-game injured list. Rookie Canadian running back Ludovick Choquette has been placed on the practice roster.
The Calgary Stampeders (1-0) will visit the Toronto Argonauts (0-1) at BMO Field on Saturday, June 14 with kickoff slated for 4:00 p.m. EDT.

Looks like Begelton is dead.

He is on the sidelines with crutches. This will be a huge loss for Calgary.
What's with the bodyslammin by Argos' D?

That's a 15 yd UR all day and they let McMannis get away with it!!! Brutal non call.
Ok, seriously, somebody please explain to me how we lost to these Arblows and Arbuckle. MVP my butt, he's brutal, always has been, but then we lose to this guy!!! Hurts even more!!
Vernon Adams jr.... One of the all time hot or cold players.
Sometimes he does some pretty humorous things with the ball.
You can almost see him thinking " I'm gonna throw it, nooooooo I better not, whoops"
Man Calgary got beat up in the first half.
Begelton, their center Bell, the long snapper, Alford got knicked a bit.
Begelton is done for sure.

I only turned on the game and saw Bell walking off with his arm being held. Either a shoulder or arm injury which is a bad sign. Especially for a player that has to handle the ball on snaps. It wouldn't surprise me if he also ended up on 6 game IR. Unfortunate for both those 2 players.
Calgary No OL early on.
Both teams should try to run the ball, but... nope.
Might have been a face mask by Argos on mills td run.
I do not like this ref crew.
I like Marshall and Lapo together. Best duo currently. Lapo has gotten better.
Nice win by Calgary
Can't be leave we lost a cup against Nick Arbuckle. Friggin unreal.

Injuries mounting for 0-2 #Argos. Ryan Dinwiddie says Wynton McManis had a MCL injury in training camp and will now get an MRI after 2 wks dealing with it in game. RB Deonta McMahon has an ankle issue.DL Demarcus Christmas has a calf problem and could be out for weeks @TSN_Sports

Is that a fine for the TOR player? You can't be throwing players to the turf after the whistle 20Y downfield causing major knee damage.
Begel's one of my all-time faves. Sad.
Wow, TOR starting 7 NAT on O? 4 OL(!) and 3 REC. Crazy! And a bonus 1 NAT on D. Are they having IR troubles causing this?
That's another first (or at least rarity), 2Q8:29 illegal interference on a kick return on the kicking team! Basically was an illegal block on the numbers, but by the wrong time.
I wonder how many of these happen and never get called...

Wow, that's the 2nd suplex type thing in this game. Both uncalled.
Going to break on the punt ~ 2Q7:00 #90 Hansen(!!) lays down LS #52 Crawford, and he appears to ruin his legs. Lots of nastiness well away from the play.
Refs don't care, just like the Begel crippling.
Best we'll get is some fines on Wednesday.
Holy smokes did J.Philpot (Philpot The Lesser?) plow down that DB late in 2nd Q. That was insane. MTL Philpot is like a slight, skinny, speed guy. CGY Philpot must have been eating his wheaties... and uncooked duck fat.
Does he have like 25lb on his identical twin? He even almost broke the tackle from the 2nd guy (a LBer?).
He looked more like Brady out there.
...
Haha, TOR was picking on NAT DB Greene and dude gets a 2nd INT before halftime. Hilarious.
J.Philpot looked like da bomb. He's never even looked a tiny fraction this good. And I think he's been injured a lot. He looks really tough and has good hands & ball tracking. He could possibly end up being as good as his brother.
A player to watch should he ever get dumped (assuming he doesn't command Demski-class money).
