Fireview 2025 (https://www.gov.mb.ca/conservation_fire/Fire-Maps/fireview/fireview.html)
This recent bout of heat and gusting winds, combined with dry conditions across much of the province have led to some serious wildfires so early in the year. Even with some cooler temps and much needed precipitation expected, the situation remains dire.
Be mindful while outdoors and monitor air quality reports, especially if you have pre-existing conditions like asthma. And be safe out there.
I don't have the words to describe how depressing this is at present.
Need a couple of good days of rain, and the wind to cooperate.

The wind has been the real villain of late. Although, that's probably due to the accompanying heat spike we've seen this week.
I sure hope Nopiming will be alright.
Heart goes out to the couple that lost their lives in Lac du Bonnet.
Listen to the fire bans this weekend, people, tempting as it might be while you're trying to enjoy the beginning of the season.
Headed out to Lac Du Bonnet today. Sad. 28 cabins completely destroyed. A large number of properties with some damage to a lot of damage. Friends home/cabin completely gone. Garage, boat, boat house, dock, miner damage. They will probably move into our Bird River cabin, until they finish rebuilding there home. Feel very lucky our Bird River cabin has no damage.
Lots of good funding raising going on. But, there are some scams.
I was evacuated
Smoke got thick last week
Some ash fell
Scary times

This one is complicated but very powerful
No rain in the forecast for the Lac Du Bonnet or Bird River area. Hot and dry again. Doesn't look good.

Good news out of bird river area, mostly under control in that area now
3 days good air quality for me North Whiteshell
10+ AQI today. Be mindful while outdoors today.
This is so depressing.
Just had the "Manitoba Pet Expo" postponed.
The St. Norbert arena when it was to be held this coming weekend has been allocated as a shelter for pets from wildfire zones, humane society s moving equipment there to house them.
All my kids' sports and school field trips that were on the schedule for today have been cancelled.
My work is collecting donations to give to people how have been displaced.
This is getting pretty rough.

Nice. Like when people can help others.
CJOB doing a nice job raising money today. My wife is handing out N95 masks at the clinic today. Anyone with a respiratory problems should be wearing one when your outdoors.
After a few very challenging weeks and mostly very bad air quality and no rain, finally it cleared up on Fri and got some moisture. Lots of big fire out of control in the Province still and on the Prairies and Ont.
Built a couple box fan merv 13 filters, should help, with I would have sooner. Had been getting ill even indoors.
Nice being outdoors without the mask.
Looks like the Flin Flon area could see some much needed rain and cooler temps over the next 5 days.
Air quality better in North Whiteshell as of late
Terrible air quality North Whiteshell recently but finally cleared a bit, exceptional air quality today but winds will shift and bring the smoke back tomorrow :(
Wildfire smoke far more dangerous to health than thought, say scientists (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2025/aug/19/wildfire-smoke-far-more-dangerous-than-thought-say-scientists)
Wildfires are reversing Canada's progress on improving air quality (https://www.cbc.ca/news/science/2023-wildfires-air-pollution-1.7619089)
" It's official: as of September 3, Vancouver has the worst air quality in the entire world. The last time this happened was in 2022 when there were a considerable number of wildfires blazing all throughout British Columbia. This summer has been just as bad, so it's no surprise to learn that Vancouver is at the top of the charts."
Unsurprisingly, this is due to B.C.'s wildfire situation. Vancouver's weather hasn't helped it much as the province has seen 6,047 lightning strikes in the last five days, according to BC Wildfire Service. A hot and dry summer has allowed wildfires to continue burning, with windy conditions helping to fan the flames."
I live on Vancouver island. It has been horrendous here as well at times. Record highs regularly being hit, and streams drying up. Forests bone dry.
Unfortunately nobody seems to care much beyond lip service.
Province is busy promoting lng.
