Looks like the province is finally getting tougher on cheating anglers in Manitoba.
No fishing license, $298.00 fine
Barbed hooks $52.00 fine last year, $220.00 this year.
Unattended line $220.00
Over limit was $102.00, now $390.00.
Picked up my new boat today. Losing a little size from a Lund Pro V 2075/ 250HP, to a Lund Crossover XS 1875/ 115 HP. Little smaller, but also will be much better on fuel. Going to throw it in the water on the weekend and see how it handles.
Love to see the province add some beef to those fines.
Man, I'm so stoked for open water season! Let us know how you like the new unit,
@Pigskin.
The fines I am really interested in are, no license, over limit, and under and over sized fish. Time to hit those people hard.
Had the new boat out today. Water was a little choppy so it was a good test. New boat is a 800 lbs lighter. 135 less HP, and 2 feet short. I was surprise how quick the boat is, and how well it handled the chop. Also, used about a third of the fuel. we normally us to get to pickerel rock and back.

Love the increase in fines, but I'd like to see them revoke a person's license for an offense for a season (aside from not having a license, I'm thinking the $298 fine will take care of those fishing who fish without one. Get serious on the those who take over the limit and over the size limit, that's depleting the fish stock!!
Sad to hear two people have drown on Lake Manitoba. Sounds like they were not wearing life jackets. High winds played apart on a Lake that can quickly get very rough.

Not wearing a PFD while on the water but especially on big water like Lake Manitoba is just asking for trouble. That's beyond dumb.
First couple of days fishing this season. Heavy smoke, cooler temps, and pretty strong winds made for some interesting fishing. Tried the flats to begin with. 6'-12' of water, caught a few nice perch on jigs and minnows. Moved on to pickerel rock, 20'-22' of water jigs, and minnows again. A few nice walleyes, but many lot where to small. On the way home we decided to drift fish through an area we call the channel with bottom bounces, walleye rigs, and nightcrawlers. That seemed to be the answer. Caught a number of 16" to 20" nice keepers.
Beautiful afternoon on the water yesterday. Went right to pickerel rock 20-22' of water. 5/16 oz orange and yellow jig head with a 3" paddle shad swimming bait and the bite was pretty good all afternoon. The tail action on these baits is incredible. I was using Ghost Shad, my Granddaughter was using the Sexy Shad. Both worked very well.
Nice morning on the water. 18c little to no windy. Kids want to go to swallows and fish for small mouth bass. Pretty much one after another on our 3/8 oz spinning lures. A few beauties. 2- 17", and 18" all of which qualifier for the Master Anglers Awards.
Some very good walleye fishing in about 16' to 20' of water. Very little windy, so it was a slow drift with a 5/16 oz green/yellow jigs. The paddle shad swimming bait, and or nightcrawlers had the steady bit.
Have a buddy at Blue Water Trailer Park in Pine Falls. Says the Walleye's are biting in 12'-14' of water. Green/White jigs tipped with fresh frozen minnow. Heavy smoke, and the boat launch was crazy.
Hearing some big fines handed out in the Lac Du Bonnet area this weekend. In some areas around of Lac Du Bonnet you can not take a Walleye over 17" or under 13.75". Hearing warning were handed out last weekend, this weekend they turned into fines. Also, a number of fines for barbed hooks, and over limit. The limit in that area is apparently 4 walleye.
So, one boat was over limit, barbed hooks, and over sized and under sized walleye. $$$$, probably should have taken there boat.
Nice weekend on the water. Slow start on Saturday. Walleye were a little finicky in the morning. Had to go back to some live bait. The fishing in the evening was very active. The fish were biting on everything at 18-20' of water. This morning the kids are fishing smallmouth, and it's one after another on 3/8 spinner lures.
