Ian Book is a bit older and is probably at the point where he'll come here or retire. Hasn't landed anywhere since the Chiefs released him.
Wonder what we have at defensive end. Would be nice to get lucky with a fine there this spring.

Book would be such a great name for a franchise QB. "Throw the Book at them". "Book 'em Ian!". Also makes for a great jersey name.
Looks like we're trying hard to find the next Zach ourselves rather than blow wads in FA in 1-3 years.

I always wonder what guys like this do all year.
He hasn't been employed past September for 3 years. He signs on as a PR arm, gets cut, and waits for next season.

Every guy is different but it's probably a nice life. Work out. Watch football. Volunteer at a high school program. Because Book was a 4th round draft pick he's actually made a couple million bouncing around so as long as he was smart with it can probably sustain that awhile.
Was Book on another teams neg list earlier? IIRC his name showed up on an earlier list. How many of those on this list are finished with college after this post season.
Put another way, any of them probable to be heading to the CFL if they don't get drafted in the NFL?

He's been on our list the past 2 or 3 releases.

That makes sense why I remember his name. OTOH, why do we get lists of players that were already on a previous list? The neg list totals 45 players per team. Just noted that 3 players on our Dec 23 list include 3 players now on the roster. Ayers on our AR and a couple of that were added to our PR at some point earlier for 2025.

Because teams don't actually want to share the names at all.

That wasn't the point or the question. He was already reported being on our neg list earlier. Neg lists change all the time and he could have been deleted and added again I suppose. Seems like a fruitless exercise. It seems that teams probably waste time evaluating potential players to add only to find out they are already on another list.

Maybe I misunderstood what you were asking? I thought you were wondering why they are showing us Book's name multiple times. I assume the answer is because by revealing the same player, they don't have to reveal additional names.

Yes that was why I was asking. Isn't the point of listing 10 names a few times a year " to reveal " new names on the overall list as it's updated etc? Otherwise they may as well not reveal any list at all IMO.
The point of the list is to have the 1st shot at signing that player if he comes to the CFL. OTOH, it's an asset that is traded at times. I don't see the point of making it a big secret.
Just another oddity in the CFL.
Maybe it's just me but it falls into the same kind of issue not releasing player salaries.
We see salaries of players traded often ( Fajardo for example ) So why isn't that a secret then? The Bombers unofficial roster list shows salaries of a dozen or so players.
Sure, new names would be interesting, but old names reveal who we are really interested in. Keeping someone on your neg list it almost as much information as putting someone on your neg list...
Vanderbilt is playin Georgia Techg this afternoon on TSN. Will have to watch ( Pavia and King) the QB's to see how they do.
" PHILADELPHIA – The Eagles on Thursday engaged in some tinkering with its practice squad, announcing the signings of quarterback Ian Book and running back Lew Nichols."
