Post by: GOLDMEMBER on August 02, 2024, 04:15:26 AM
Good

Excellant OL and DL WORK!
Brady gonna Brady
Zach was sharp
Demski didn't fumble and contributed well
Sergio was top notch amazing
Biggie was great
31,500 pumped up crowd
Secondary was second to none!

Bad

Sheehan punting was sub standard
Short yardage with Strev is suspect
Refs were out to lunch a lot of the game

Ugly

So many Fans taking the Lions LMAO

Good:

Zach near 300 yards, NO interceptions
Brady gonna Brady
Sergio
The D: one TD allowed in the past 3 games
Best case Onteria with another 100 yard game; climbing the league ranks

Bad:

Not sure why we don't have a few punters in camp the last couple of years
another third down with Strev stuffed
Only one offensive TD despite multiple red zone trips

Ugly:

*'* nothing. Shut out, baby!!!

In addition to what's been said

The Good
- the D line-Garbutt and Adams are coming into their own and are forces out there, and Willie was Willie tonight
-Castillo making a statement kicking, with a 60 yd exclamation mark!
-the secondary was phenomenal in particular Ford and Holm-Holm is the best DB in the league by a mile
-Brady pounding the Lions unmercifully
-big time win outs BB in the thick of things
-pitching a shutout, can't remember the last time we got a shutout!!

The Bad
-the lions offense- the Bad Adams played tonight and man was he bad. If I m BC, It's a no brainer if rourke comes back north, Adams was as bad as I ve ever seen him

The Ugly
How did this team lose to the Argos 5 days ago!?!

Sergio setting a CFL for most 60 yard FGs in a career (nevermind half a season) can't be overlooked.

Well the end turned out incredible but the first quarter and maybe a bit more was filled with mistakes and lack of focus on offence.  Way too many penalties- they seemed to come around feeding off of the defence that started strong and never let up.

If I never see the hitch screen to Johnson again I will be happy.

Good: defense was phenomenal (shutting out the best offense in the league is huge), Castillo was dynamite (made CFL history), Whitehead with a major (and some great catches), the offense only turned over the ball once (honourable mentions to Collaros, Oliveira, and Wilson)

Bad: the lack of finishing drives (red zone production is abysmal), some uncharacteristic penalties

Ugly: the team's only turnover on SY, Sheahan's biffed punts

The defensive game plan by the coaching staff was incredible. We have a good secondary, but it felt like we weren't chasing receivers because we knew what they were going to do.

Another weird thing was watching Lucky and Kase split snaps. They kept trading off, running and and off the field for each other.

Gotta be hard to get in a rhythm like that. Just let Lucky start, geeze.

Crazy thinking they we held the best offence in the league to 4 first downs.

D line... full speed start to finish.  94 ...took out two guys on one play, shoved them straight back into va.
 Finally got past no Jeffcoat.
Overall much better tackling.

o line....... Same. Putting Eli in as some sort of flanker. Saw one run play Brady to the left, Eli turned back and flattened a pursuing defender.  Was not just Brady up the middle for a change. BC D line was worn out.

Maybe a pass to Eli sometime?

Whoever caught the short field goal try. Nice snag.

Bighill.... not done.

Truism.... Games are won in the trenches.

Reffing.... Saw one play Willie's jersey was stretched back two feet to the grab. . No flag. How could they miss that?

Coaches.... Top notch job.

Not a fun year for Streveller so far.

This league is crazy. One week, we struggle and lose to the Argos, next week, we're killing the first place Lions??!! Calgary beats the Lions, then gets hammered the next week by Ottawa.....maybe BC isn't this big bad team everyone thinks they are.

We have to make up some lost ground, but I like where we're going right now, and when Lawler comes back, look out!!

The hitch screen will work at times.  Disagree on not seeing it again (Johnson).  Had a big loss on one play but doesn't mean it's a bad play.  Johnson looked good imo.

Cadwallader caught that kick.

Johnson is not playing badly. He may not be the next Lawler but he's being productive for a 4th or 5th read on most plays. Not many CFL rookies shine in the 1st half of a season and maybe not the entire season. He'll get bumped when Lawler returns but that's a ratio and roster size issue.

Depends on whether Woli is also back, otherwise we're a little thin on offence. Case is the only back up at receiver. So we might shift an extra offensive player in to rotate within the group and have a back up.

EDIT: he's often being tackled very quickly. OTOH, that means one defensive player that can't double on Wilson or Demski as often.

If we got a good hitch screen going it can only help our O.  We haven't had a good one for years.

However, it hasn't been working with Johnson.  I think we've run 6 of them in 2 games and only 1 worked well, maybe 1 more ok, the rest were basically 0 gain.  That's a waste of a down.

But it does widen the line for Brady.  But there's really no RPO or diversion play possible on hitch screens because they have to be thrown instantly to be effective.

I've seen Buck stick with useless inexplicable plays before... and it's usually a setup for the real play yet to be seen.  So I look forward to seeing what the trick is here.  Sometimes we have to wait nearly all season to see... but I'm pretty sure Johnson won't last that long, so who takes over that play when he gets benched?  I don't want Lawler taking those double-coverage hits.

Told you guys not to sleep on Cadwall when he got signed 2(?) years ago.  He's been making great plays on ST this season.  I think he'll be a long term keeper.  I hope he can get his D looks ramped up, too.
